Ok I will say this again even though I thought I was pretty clear on it from the beginning and also mentioned it later through the thread.
ALL I did was post a email that was sent to me.I didn't alter it in anyway. Any references in it made weather it be about Bible, wilderness, etc. I myself did not make. The was ALL the original email. Hence the quotes from beginning to end of the email.

I posted it as I stated because it has a reference of testing of this made during the Vietnam war. Hence it is in the military forum. I thought the IDEA of it was interesting and wondered what others thought about it. I also thought we might get lucky and get a vet from then that might actually remember this testing.

We have had some great responses and some great links added to learn from. Obviously there is something to it somehow someway, just by going by the responses and some of the links.

I am glad people are having fun with it and I really have learned a couple new things, and That I do believe is at least a part of what ATS is suppose to be all about.

I hope this clear up any misunderstandings of the original post.

A blind person learns how to listen, not just to hear. If a person is used to having their hair in the way of their view, they will no doubt start to use their other senses to greater effect. Once the hair is cut short, their eyesight will become the dominant sense

While the email story has all the hallmarks of a science fiction/urban legend story and I highly doubt theres really any truth to it since theres no evidence which means I'll never believe it, I just wanted to come here and thank you. Why? Because you did what many others here don't have the sense or balls to do. You knew you were presenting a far out there thing so you put a question mark in your title and your very first sentence was a disclaimer saying it was an email etc. So, thank you.

I understand this board has its place for far-out-there discussions, even though I'm personally very skeptical by nature and dont "believe" in anything without proof, but my problem with the forums lately is how people typically present their out-there beliefs with eye catching titles (like "THE TRUTH THE GOVT IS HIDING" all caps or "100% proof of ETs" then its just a #ty youtube video etc) and preaching their beliefs as truths even when they have no evidence. If more people followed your example surely this would be a better place.

I very much agree with you. People need to cool it with the newsflash type headings.

Actually all animals who grow hair have non stop hair growth, but good old evolution stopped them fom turning into fuzzy feasts for prdators by allowing them to Shed their hair... If it never shed..how is an animal going to cut its hair so its not a giant fuzz ball that overheats and cant see, or have super long hair getting caught in bushes and branches.

I think he just threw that one in because some (not very bright) people won't believe anything unless there is some sort of biblical precedent for it. Sort of like throwing a slow pitch to a 4-year-old.

I actually liked your post. Different, curious, and fun to toss ideas and insights back and forth. I wasn't trying to tear you up on the religious aspect in the last portion of the OP. But I find it entertaining that just about every topic in the forum has someone bringing up a reference to the bible at some point. Although I did find it amusing when some of the religious folks started talking about the messiah coming on a space ship. That was awesome.

Not all bald guys are uptight...Ken Kesey, Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and a whole bus load of aging (or now deceased) hipsters were very challenged in the hair department.

However, this hair theory may help to explain why some bald guys have pony tails...

????

Those Animals have a Stop limit ! unless its cut then Grows to the length it was
My Brussels Griffon does not Shed ! but her hair grow back Every time ! at the Original Length when she wasShaved During the Summer ....

Ever Shave Hair besides the Head or Face ? Yes it does become thicker of continued use of Shaving but the Length wlll be still the same...

But On Humans ,, The Hair On you Head & Face (Male) will Continue to Grow without limit unless its cut! if the Human body hair continued to grow We would look like Apes But There is Extreme Rare Occasion this Does Happen ! Good Example is Lionel Lion Man or JoJoThe Dog Boy ..

Still the Search of a Reason why continues ...

To the OP:

Your the 10th person I've found to quote lines from the movie "The men who stare at goats" That is what this thread is based from.

If any of this was true the US Military WOULD NOT be shaving every recruit's head.

I don't know. Since I started shaving my head I've found my mind freed completely from any concerns over my appearance, and that's allowed me to focus exclusively on larger issues. Okay, so I have a good shaped head, and that was part of the reason for trying it out, but I have to admit that after decades of wearing my hair to my shoulders (at least), I really like the release that this new style has given me. I'm much more focused and to be honest, I lot more intuitive as a result.

Long hair is cool, and if I wasn't shaving then I'd grow it long again, but as someone who last year at this time had close to two feet of hair length all the way around and now has no hair whatsoever, I'm not feeling any restrictions or reductions. Maybe it's having to wear a military cut (or a corporate cut) that strips you of your magic? Just the "falling into line" psychological impact could probably do a number on your self image, and in turn rob you of what you feel makes you unique and special. I couldn't go with a corporate cut. No way. It was either long or shaved, and nothing in between. Maybe that's the issue - comformity and how it strips a person of their Identity at a visceral level.

Militaries need compliant troops more than they need thinking soldiers. I understand that this featured in a movie and I think it a keen observation of how hair do's influence societal norms.

I am 100% agree with this revealed scientific fact about hairs.

In islam, Muslim men are ecouraged to have beard, as Prophet Mohammad's following. Prophet Mohammad had beard and hairs of head til shoulders, not longer then shoulders i mean they were not crossing the shoulders. and if we look at history of jesus, he was not having short hairs.. we were told about the facts.. now we found reasoning

I have long hair, i always have long hair. I dont like short hair, people tend to make fun of the size of my head when its short, But long hair no one really notices my big head, cause they think its my puffy hair.

Personally i dont think long hair gives you an advantage, if anything its a disadvantage, hair in your face, you cant always see what lays ahead, i have good reactions, and i see things before they happen (which i think my sub conscience is just real good at guessing)

It would be neat, michio kaku has long hair and that guy is a genious, coincdence? yes. If you were to think hair gives you magic power. you'd midaswell think the sky is falling everytime it rains, the idea isjust ridicluas.

If proven then i would change my opinion, but so far is it just your opinion against mine, simple as that. Nothing can be solved without science

I would say this is a true story. I had really long hair, down to my waist. I didn't realize how powerful my hair was until I cut it. It took me a long time to realize that my "mojo" was gone! It effected how I read people, how people treated me, how successful I was while hunting or fishing, and basically I felt less empowered and in tune. After ten years I grew it back and all that energy and sensitivity and positive relationships came back. I've jokingly called it the "Sampson Syndrome."

To the OP, this thread is AWESOME! It is just what I needed to read today...

As for my own thoughts, is it all hair that hold such power, or is it the facial hair? This may explain those who have their heads, but keep the goatee...

I'll admit, I have only read half way down the first page or so, but I'm going to give my opinion anyway. I don't think that this anecdotal story is true. There are a couple of things that would lead me to disbelieve it or at least give it a low probability of truth. First, the whole idea that the military would be combing Native American tribes for scouts because by the time that the Vietnam conflict rooled around, the US Army already had one of the best scouting programs in the world. Furthermore, the Hollywood image of Native Americans is generally just that, a "hollywood" image of what Natives are supposed and used to be. With maybe an exception for the Inuit people and various tribes in Alaska, Native Americans or Native North Americans would not have anymore extensive experience than say an American mountain man or big game hunter.

Moving along and feeding off that idea, they were supposedly able to get these Natives to "enlist" in the army, to go to Vietnam none the less. Unless they drafted these Natives, which there are laws preventing biased drafting or discrimination based drafting (past the normal discrimination, obviously). In other words, the draft would have to follow the guidlines, not "We want you, your oming with us". Then, add that to the supposed large numbers that the military was able to find, according to this anecdotal story. Apparently, they found enough excellent NA trackers that they could do a scientific study, with controls and enough participants to get good data. Sorry, I'm just not buying the story.

Finally, this anecdotal story came through the email, with no sources. That right there is a hge flag in of itself. Since when have we started believing all of these email anecdotes? Hey, come to think of it, I know this Nigerian prince who has a couple million in escrow and only needs someone to release the funds to, you can have half.

If I had to put money on it, I would say that this story is just that, a story and it is probably based on the vivid imagination of someone with a little extra time a curiousity of long it will remain in email-land. Now this doesn;t necessarily mean that hair has some special power that we are unaware of, only that I think the story isn't true and instead, it's just an anecdotal piece of entertainment. FWIW, I also don't think hair gives us any sixth sense but if you ever find the science to support such a claim, I would be much more likely to buy into it.

For those having fun with this story, I don't mean to be a party-pooper here and rain on your parade, but you are buying into a presumably anonymous story with no sources and a few inconsistencies. I think a little rain is needed.

Anyway, fun story.
