As another option, and not to discredit what you saw, but is there a possibility that it was a meteorite entering the earths atmosphere? I've heard of meteorites sometimes breaking apart on entry due to expanding ice and rapid forming of water vapor. Is this a possibility?

I know you're the logical minded kind of person and have already thought of this but i'm on the side of terrestial object of an experimental nature. However that still raises questions because if they are hiding technology that can give Earth a far superior space program then they are doing the entire human race a diservice. In fact i would argue it is a betrayal of the human race to keep such technology secret.
That's not to say aliens don't exist, i am sure they do, whether they have found us is a very different question.

He didn't say he was a believer. It is like a Catholic who learns all type of terrible things about the Church. All the Priests are liars and cheats; there probably is no Jesus Christ. The Church leaders are all hypocrite -- but he is still a Catholic.
These skeptics are hard headed -- they fall fast. You just as well make a believer out of "The Amazing Randi".

I remain skeptical. My primary reasons are that we represent a relatively mundane existence when compared against the wonders of the galaxy available to an interstellar species. Even very advanced technology -- if it exists at all -- capable of traversing the stars will be exceptionally "expensive" in terms of the cost of energy required. I can't imagine any intelligent species wasting that energy on us when the entire galaxy calls.

Thank you for your recounting of the event. I am rather curious about this effect of "splitting" that is so often described. I have a couple of "theories", but all they are is just thoughts, since there is absolutely no way to really approach proving them.
1) The splitting effect is caused by some sort of physics phenomenon of ftl travel.. maybe a jump to warp or hyperspace or whatever it should be called.
2) Maybe these vessels are actually conglamerations of "pods" and they routinely function in this manner, staying as one unit until needing to run off on missions.
Since this is all highly speculative anyways, what if the splitting is actually not splitting at all? What if it is the same object occupying different space at the same time can't certain sub atomic particles be in 2 places at once or something along those lines?
