The way we understood agent provocateur at the tail end of apartheid is that they formed underground cells of the then banned liberation groups, like the ANC, especially at the more liberal universities.
Whenever the state wanted more vocal unbanned leaders arrested and tortured, the agents would start violence.
I don't see this on ATS.
Paid intelligence spies are a different issue.
They are probably everywhere, and maybe that's not always bad.
I think ATS goes out of its way to stop members from incriminating themselves.
The only way I see a true agent provocateur operating is via U2U, if they lure you to other sites or incriminating blogs and discussions.

I think the thing is, simply, respect.

again are the people/individuals themselves not strong enough or smart enough to decide on their own who to stay away from ?

this is a forum of words in cyberspace... the matter of respect is a personal assumption since no one is physically standing in front of one another. If I see someone bashing another with bad words I look at the person using the profanity and judge to stay away from them or respond to them in other threads ect. I/We the people do have the free will to ignore it does not have to be dictated to them and in all actuality the dictation is the cause of the aggression you see for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. When the boogieman has come to cut your tongue out it is hard to stay calm especially with an overdose of altered reality and history.

...could there be agent provocateurs on ats?... its possible - but - that doesnt mean its probable...

...some like to believe and/or promote the belief that feds are actively pursuing / watching them... some of that is just plain old paranoia... some of it is a pr technique they believe will add validity to their claims of whatever (ie: alex jones)...

...do the math... how many citizens participate in online message boards?... how many agents would it take to monitor those citizens 24-7?...

...yes, of course, take into consideration that feds (allegedly) have sophisticated computer programs to do the tracking for them, so they only have to pay attention to whoever the program flags as a potential troublemaker - but - still, to believe that your opinion is SO unique and/or troublesome that it warrants fbi attention is "mostly" just ego-inflating bs...

...i say mostly because i have read posts (here and elsewhere) that certainly warranted leo attention, such as potential kidnapping... its easy to damn all leos but if you had a child or grandchild missing and, then, you read a post from someone who claimed they had a child (the right age, missing for the appropriate length of time) that wasnt theirs, you'd want a leo agency to look into that too...

...another paranoia driven exercise is the "how to spot a disinfo agent" tripe... if the feds are infiltrating message boards, surely their protocals are intelligent enough so that they'll rarely be spotted - but - most paranoids want it both ways... they want to say that the feds are smart enough to covertly infiltrate and they're too stupid to cover their tracks...

...i've been posting on message boards for over two decades and my rants have mellowed considerably as i've aged, lol... if i've got a fbi file, its gotta be boring and short because i havent stated anything that thousands of others havent also stated... iow, i'm not unique...

...bottom line is - most of us are not interesting enough or skeery enough or weird enough to spy on, much less have an agent provacateur take a special interest in us (unless its sexual cuz they're human too, lol)...

Maybe so, maybe not...

With 202,727 members generating 9,500,791 posts of substance (minimal contributions are not allowed) that cover 599,714 topics in 162 different discussion forums, you could say "the truth is in here." And new content, new ideas, new speculation, and new theories are being generating at an astounding pace with 492 members creating 36,998 new posts during the past seven days. Also, in that same time span, we welcomed 492 new members and enjoyed visits from 8,071 registered members as well as 920,094 guests.
ATS Stats

So there were over 928k visits over the last week. I think that judging from the popularity of ATS, and the fact that it IS the number one conspiracy website online, is more than reason enough to presume cointelpro agents are around. As for actual agent provocateurs? I don't think so. What and how are they going to convince people to commit crimes?! T&C doesn't really allow this.

Oh, and for the record, I'm not paranoid. I don't think agents are out to get me. Are they out to infiltrate the conspiracy community? Now that seems highly probable.

I just sometimes wonder how words like "agents" and so forth are used.
I think if somebody actually posted about using violence or terror most of the online members would immediately alert the authorities.
And rightfully so.
Does that make them agents of any kind?

From some past threads I think it was mooted that people in security and so forth are conspiracy theorists themselves.

I seriously doubt that the U.S. government is concerned with what is discussed on this site.

Most of the threads are nothing more than links to news everyone knows about already.

The number of foreign members on ATS is staggering.

This is just now another social site for young people.

possibly but the facts are twisted in the titles and then further down as the thread progresses.

this sways people's thinking but alot of these links to "facts" mine as well be the examiner or national inquirer which are hardly credible sources.

but the topic starters of said threads would get you to believe they are even as the thread progresses.

One such agent was Doc Velocity, now banned. He was outed right here on ATS as being a Fed working in internet disinformation. The funniest part is, his title was "Disinformation Specialist".

Look up Doc Velocity. He made a thread that I think got deleted. It was about how this church was screwing over its congregation. By the time it was all said and done, turns out the story was a hoax and he was outed as being on a special operations team meant to subvert internet opinion.

You can not get banned from a website really..
Yes, your user name and even IP can be banned but anyone with half a brain could just change their IP or use a proxy..
So if Doc Velocity wants to be here you can bet they still are...

I think ATS would be one of the better targets for agents because it is so well moderated.
It means they don't have to dredge through all the usual rants and abuse you see on other sites..
So they get a reasonable view of current thoughts without all the baggage, IMHO..

No, they found out his name and traced several user accounts elsewhere on the Internet. One of which was to a law enforcement website where he discussed his profession and described his job title (which was something along the lines of "Electronic Information Tactical Team". Whatever it was, the meaning was, "I am paid by the DoD to sit in internet forums and try to sway public opinion and incite dissention".

I am sure he still is. But not as "Doc Velocity".

I don't think they sit around trying to spy on each and every one.

I think they use metrics to pick out those that are vocal and influential.

Wow Tex...I was unaware of such a conclusion to Doc's stay here.

I would love a U2U to speak on that further...

Anyways, on topic.

YES there are people here for covert or nefarious reasons. YES there are unseen agendas and master-plans afoot. AND YES the "conspiracy crowd" is being being observed and weighed by eyes unseen near and afar.

Yes...

It was posted all over a thread. As well as his profile comments section. Since then, everything has been deleted. No trace of it. If you search the thread title on Google, it links you to a site that will link to a "404" page on ATS. The thread title was "Doc Velocity Arrested By Church Police".

There was a lot said in his profile comments, too. Since he was banned, we no longer have access.

The only other mention I can find is on the last page of Doc Velocitys thread about having a stroke. Maybe...Maybe Not mentions that he does not believe that Doc Velocity had a stroke. He references other information. The above thread is the "other information" referred to.

WHats up with the provocoteur threads? You all so paranoid... its a discussion forum.. read, read, read, read, and talk, and read, read, and read and believe what you wish to believe, not what someone, anyone tells you to.
