Nice thread, I agree with the OP; the lottery is fixed to give people false hope. Every now and then they let a loser win to make it beLIEvable, just like The Island (2005):

my wife won 100k and i won 40k,

not bad, we have won all the prizes cept the 1st prize.

what pisses me off is when i lived in colorado, a lot of the winners were people buying tics a gas station
just passing through.

we are due to hit something good again soon.

My son speculates that they use the lottery winnings to pay for the witness protection program.

In all seriousness though, I DO think a lot of the winners get more heartache than happiness with their winning tickets. Saw this story a few years ago. abcnews.go.com...

If you do a search, it really does bring up a lot of mishaps for lottery winners.

I rememer reading the story of one homeless man that won a lottery. He and his best friend (a dog) were living in a car when he won. The first thing he did with his winnings was go buy the dog a diamond studded collar. Having money but still no sense guarantees it will be easy come, easy go.

If I won the lottery, all the alternative research I have reading about will be spammed globally

I would probably do a show like Jesse Venturas, but also travel the world finding things out; in a sense like Indiana Jones

I won £54K back in 2003, and the next week was told I being laid off from work, which added another £10K in redundancy money... all of it tax free!

I then took a year off, paying my own way and traveling a lot.... never regretted not going out and getting another job and keeping the money in the bank - could get hit by a bus the next day and not get to enjoy the money.

Neighbors down the street won. The dad in the family bought a bunch of tickets with several people he works with and they split the prize, so they each got around $1 million after taxes and the split between them.

I know of one but it is a horribly sad story.

One of my husband's friends since childhood had his wife leave him and their four children (two are disabled, one with down syndrome). She decided one morning she didn't want to do it anymore and walked out on all of them. So he is a single dad working a blue collar job trying to support four children.

She went on to remarry and won the lottery with her new husband. They had it set up to where it was in his name so it doesn't even go to child support.

When that karma comes around, it's going to be painful.

I went to elementary and high school with 3 winners.

But I'm in Canada so if you're referencing the various state lotteries in the US then they are two different animals.

Yes Ive seen lottery winners. Its not a conspiracy. What is a conspiracy though is making people think that winning the lottery makes any difference whatsoever. If you have not changed your inner attitude not only will you not feel any better but the money will be gone in no time.

A mate of mine won just over £100,000....moved to Canada in the end.

I remember we were out on a operation in S.Armagh doing some stuff, we were out for five days before returning to base. One of the Royal Marines i was working with was exstatic because he heard his numbers came up and he stood to get about £300,000.

Unfortunately his mate back on the mainland went out on the razz and forgot to put the numbers on.

Those few days stuck next to him...and a gun...wasn't great.

I couldnt have imagined a WORST ending to that already horrible story. VERY, VERY, VERY SAD.

Life just really makes you want to ask if there really is a higher power than us. And if so, HOW can this higher power NOT be completely EVIL to the CORE.

Sadly, there are way more stories like this than not. And these folks never seem to get the least bit of punishment, and worst, their life clearly gets better and better and better each passing day.

Its just very hard to believe that a good god exists if one does in fact exist. Seems to be the cold hard brutal facts.

Who knows? Maybe the husband was a real shmuck and the wife was rewarded by life for leaving him. Its only your own prejudical perception that this is so very very very sad.

Its hard to imagine that such is a likely possibility being that the wife deserted two disabled and one down-syndrone child. Then went and arranged things so that nothing can trickle down to helping her old family any. There is only one "schmuck" in that story. And you cannot see that? Its hard to imagine that I even have to explain this!! Shocking to me in all honesty.

Just won the powerball thingy last week. Stopped at my favorite porn megamart for a rubber repair kit and a bicycle pump. They were having a sale on 2 gallon buckets of slippery stuff lube, so I thought what the hell I'll grab a few of those and a lottery ticket.

I dont see anything "very, very, very sad" in the woman deciding to go another way and winning the lottery. Winning the lottery is nothing special. It makes some people miserable. Who knows, maybe the husband is experiencing much more joy and love staying with the children, and the wife gets depressed because she left. Maybe the children are not as unhappy as you say. You are only assuming.

Its an assumption that the situation may or may not be sad, but as I said the story as written above is sad. Being that I do not live with them, I can not say what the actual real like situation is. It is the "STORY" above as typed that I commented is sad. I take it that you in fact disagree that the "story" isnt a sad story as it is written above??

There are LOTS of what-ifs. Thats NOT what I comment on. Geeze, man, come on!!!

Yup.

Who knows if the hubby isnt happy and joyful with the kids and the woman miserable with the money? I dont.

I wouldnt have said anything but you really poured it on with ALL CAPS and VERY VERY VERY SAD and PURE EVIL and whatnot.

Nevermind...I dont wish to derail this thread.
