Chinese workers build 15-story hotel in just six days

news.yahoo.com

A construction crew in the south-central Chinese city of Changsha has completed a 15-story hotel in just six days. If nothing else, this remarkable achievement will stoke further complaints from American economic pundits that China's economy is far more accomplished than ours in tending to such basics as construction.

WOW! China is accomplishing alot latley. Who else can build a 15-story hotel in 6 days? This is just more proof to me that China is on the path to take the #1 spot from us western countries in a couple years. Our economy is going down the tube while the eastern's economy is going up. What are your thoughts on this remarkably feat they were able to accomplish?

Lol that second guy who posted made a good point.
I mean great they build that so quickly,
But....

They should try to build a Hilton, just the way it's built here,
In half the time we do,
Then i'll be amazed

I dont believe it,.
We do not really know the complete fact of this construction,.
Move in ready?
I doubt that
But the erection is certainly posssible

The safety of this just does not seem that sound.

When people rush things bad things tend to happen and shortcuts are taken. There are times when it might be best to take a bit longer.

If you want to survive and get on in this World, learn Chinese!

In 5 years time, we will need it. I've just ordered a complete course to learn at home.

Think about it! They are going to build one new power station per week for the next 10 years, 80 new airports in the next 10 years etc!

China is going to be the superpower on Earth, Dr No anybody?

Exactly! I would guess some short cuts where taken, but maybe this building is just for show and not to be actually occupied.

...
and thanks to the prefab nature of the process, the builders wasted very few construction materials.

So 15 days to 'erect' a building.
Okay... how much time was spent prefabricating the pieces that went into it?

It's in the link...

The work crew erected the hotel -- a soundproofed, thermal-insulated structure reportedly built to withstand a magnitude 9 earthquake -- with all prefabricated materials. In other words, a crew of off-site factory workers built the sections, and their on-site counterparts arranged them on the foundation for the Ark project.

Still, impressive and yes, you could pay me to stay there...if only because I would need my money to actually transport to the facility...

For those who haven't watched the video contained in the above link...well worth it...

The best stat I have seen?

0 Human Accidents During Construction.

Thanks for posting this...pretty darned cool...

...its a prefab job - hardly a new concept or one thats not widely accepted as perfectly fine and safe in the usofa, especially among home builders...

...in the subdivison behind me, brand new houses are all pre-fab and they start at $125,000 for about 3,000sq'... a lot of people think thats a great deal because the same house built not pre-fab costs 3x that, at least...

...if you think you havent stayed in a pre-fab hotel / motel in the usofa, you're foolin' yourself... the length of erection time is, uh
wait, i lost my train of thought
- is longer here because the work ethic is totally different...

...here, it takes 4 to do a job simple enough for 1 and it takes them forever cuz they gotta have a mid-mornin break and lunch and another break and talk on their cell phone and have a potty break and thats the way it goes around here...

My wife who is in the business of hotels no less (drawing them up) noticed they used pre-fabricated interior walls. This certainly helped with the speed of getting it up.

The rest of the actual building of the thing is what really worries me though. I wonder how long it will be before it collapses.

I am not sure how right that is, but I am certain China is working very hard at becoming the most dominant power in the world.

China seeks power and a lot of it.

i don't know, 6 days? that is not possible in the USA, not so much because of a lack of man power, or dedicated workers, but because certain construction processes and especially paperwork require time

i can only imagine that if someone set out to build such a massive project in so little time that the chances of accidents while building would increase exponentially as well as the chances that some crucial part of the building might be rushed or even forgotten in the rush of everything

6 days? i mean that is amazing, i have worked the new construction side of electricity for some time in the past, mostly commercial, and hearing this is mind blowing, i could imagine all the electrical work for a 15 story building could take at least a month and that would be with a full team of no-slacking electricians in a senario of no set backs, and also that would still only complete the electric in the building..

i almost want to call BS on this one and say it could not be done, but who knows

it's a good use of time. Looks like they worked 24/7 on it though, so to compare productivity, multiply what it took them by three.
Now let's look at the ridiculous amount of cranes they have operating and the amount of people you'd need to keep those cranes that busy, and you can bet every one of those worker's are dirt broke cause no one can pay that many people and make money.
So then on top of that you add the prefab time.

I'd be willing to bet the comined structural/insulation/fastener into something they could stack quickly. Looks like justa bunch of squares on top of each other. simple.
All that being said though, i'm impressed. "good job" impressed but, lol, definately not "intimidated" impressed.

not sure why it says two days but...
