What I'm saying takes a bit more thought....

that if there is ANY truth to what they're mocking.. make a mockery of it.. and it's instantly not processed by the average joe as rational.

I see your point, but I think it also works in the other direction. I went on an Onion marathon when I discovered their YouTube channel, and since then I've seen many real newscasts that make me ask if this is the friggen Onion?? (E.g. the bed bug coverage.)

They really have a skill for magnifying all the nonsense that normally slips by the half-conscious TV viewers. Next time someone on C-SPAN says "that's classified", millions of viewers will think back to the Onion video.

and the onion works with fact and mocks it.

it doesn't fabricate issues.. it plays with pre existing issues.

I got up this morning and went to the bathroom to take a (classified). I went and looked out the window at the sky and saw something that made me go WHAT THE (CLASSIFIED)! My wife got mad for waking her up and told me to shut the (classified) up! At least it's Friday and almost the weekend so I can sit on my (classified) and read ATS forums about crazy (classified).

Man this video gets posted here at least once every few months.. and people always fall for it.
