This is the latest pic. This is a good sign, at least the mountain hasn't blown apart, yet. Maybe it won't. My prayers are with the people of Indonesia, they sure do have a lot to put up with.

Heres the latest update from RSOE:

The death toll from the eruptions of Indonesia's Mount Merapi rose to 240 Saturday as the search for more victims was ongoing, a disaster official said. Television footage showed military rescuers finding charred bones of victims as they dug through thick volcanic debris that incinerated homes near the mountain. The death toll could rise as the search for victims were continuing, said an official at the National Disaster Management Agency, who declined to give his name. Wisnu Joko, the head of a local military rescue team, said nine bodies were found Friday in the Cangkringan area of Sleman district. 'Information from families indicates that dozens of people are still missing and suspected to have been buried when hot ash clouds rained down on their homes,' he said. Merapi erupted for the first time in four years on October 26. The Central Java volcano's biggest blast in decades occurred November 5, leaving more than 100 people dead and forcing tens of thousands from their homes. More than 390,000 people living near the volcano were staying in emergency shelters, the disaster agency said. The country's top vulcanologist, Surono, warned Friday that even though Merapi was showing less intensity, it was still difficult to predict when the volcano would stop spewing hot gases and debris.

Also, there are a hell of a lot of volcanos going off around the world right now. Wonder whats causing all the activity?

Peace.

It sure does look dire for the Indonesians right now. Even though the activity has subsided by the scientists beliefs, it still could be building back pressure and getting ready for the mother of all eruptions for that area go the globe.
as far as for all the volcanic activity, I believe it is all plate tectonics, the possible "EMF" shift of the planets magnetic poles, but this is only speculation and high in sight from literature I have read on the issue. The 2012 theories are based on some of these events taking place, so , anything would be a good guess as of right now.
Thanks for the update ALOSTSOUL....

I'm with you UNKNOWN, it is sad to see so many die. I want to see the day when we have better natural disaster early warning systems - and effective public warning systems - to prevent something like that God-awful tsunami in 1994 that killed over a quarter of a million people.

Definitely is sad. I totally agree with you as well that better warning should be in effect for natural disasters. Especially in an area like this. They live near a volcano that has been active for many, many years, yet they still are not in the right position to deal with it erupting and all these people have died. When it could have been prevented with a well set system. When will we learn??

Probably never. Humans (we think) are the most advanced life form on Earth, but we continue to be especially stupid. Sigh..
