Thank you Dad, and Grandpas too
For taking up those guns in youth
For serving country and your man
For doing the best you can

Thank you Dad for being strong
For doing right, never wrong
You showed me through actions what men were to be
Thank you, Daddy for doing that for me

Thank you Grandpas, for fighting for me
So freedom is still what I see
Thank you grandpas, for being brave
Your honor in my heart I save

Thank you, Grandma, for breaking lines
Being a pioneer in your time
First LT, with your caring hands
Nursed back to health many a wounded man

And, thank you David, my young friend
22, and life sees no end
Serving your country out at sea
Thank you, Veterans, from American Me

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And thank you to all our vetrans and active soldiers ehre at ATS, and beyond. Thank you for your service.
Thank you. I am touched that so many remember our services, not just us Brits and Americans, but all of our allies. We stood shoulder to shoulder in the mud and the blood. Some of us came home (some broken and scarred), others..............................................................
Although this is the day of Rememberance, there is not a day that goes by when I do not think about those that have fallen. They may not have all been heros, I am sure they were all reluctant to die.
However, what I am sure of is...........they served and gave the ultimate sacrifice.
For you OP. Beautiful words on such an important day.
God Bless you.
My father served in Vietnam and was a Green Beret. Which I hopefully can become one myself. Green Berets are awesome!
Thank you for reading. I admit I cried when I wrote it. I woke up this morning, thinking of my dad, and my grandpas, both passed (grandpa bob just last year exactly) and thought of how they fought. My other Grandpa, grandpa louie, passed ages ago. He led an all black platoon, and would have to ask mom the war. Either ww2 or korea. He was quite proud of it.
And David is a young friend of mine, who bravely joined the navy lasy year, and I miss him very much, and am very proud of him. He is out on ship in the pacific right now.
I hope everyone today hugs their loved vet, and thanks them. Braver than me they are.
Dear Hotbakedtater,
Very lovely poem, thank you for sharing. However less we forget all the Ladies who did their part also =)
So thank you to all those women who waited for their husbands to come back, who worked in factories day and night making items required to assist in the war efforts. My respects for your power, conviction and dedication.
Regards,
T
I know, but I am aghast I forgot my grandma in my poem. It was a little spur of the moment and I had dad on my mind as we are lunching this afternoon. My grandmother was a nurse and she had a rank of first lt, which was a source of pride. She was beautiful and she married grandpa louie while both were in the army, they married in uniform. Oh they made the most handsome couple. Grandma was quite a bit older than grandpa, and it would have been like demi and ashton of their day. Grandma died when I was 12, to this day I can no more think of her than to tear up, I still miss her so much and it has been thirty years.
Anyway I whipped yp a nice little stanza for my grnadma, so the females are represented properly. I sure dont want to forget them!
Dear Hotbakedtater,
You did an awesome job with your poem and added stanza for your grandma! =)
I apologise for rehashing old memories, but my grandma was a very strong person in my life so I had to make the comment.
All the best,
T
You write beautifully, and brought a tear to the eye of an old submarine sailor!
It is for people like you that I gladly gave a HUGE part of my life for.
Flag and Star for you, my dear.....
Hi and a happy 12 November to you. One thing I have learned from this thread is that you are a talented young lady. Have you ever considered consolidating your work and getting some of it published?
I have thought about it, gathering some works and trying to self publish, or something, but have not done so...yet.
Thanks for the compliment, you made me feel good this morning.
Thanks for the poem..Great words.
I have three generations that served, my grandfather was at Dunkirk and he told me it wasn't as pretty as the movies make it out to be..
Many suffered for our freedom..
Thank you. My dad was in Vietnam, and he also was stationed in Germany. I would love to visit Germany one day, Dad seemed to love it and the food was great he said!
Cool, my dad was in Germany after the war as a peacekeeping force.
I'm glad he missed the fighting.
I've been to Cologne on business and I can tell you the food's good...
Thats if I remember right after the yards of beer we drank..
that was a beautiful poem. My father also was stationed in Germany and told me all about it. ( Since he was single at the time, I am sure he left out some parts) But I was lucky enough to go while I was in the military for 3 months and be in Frankfurt. We traveled around a bit and had a great time. Food was good and different, but the beer. Ahh the beer. It's a magical place. I highly recommend it.
The next time you are over here in Germany, you should pay a visit to Munich. Just south of there is a small monestery called Andechs. Believe me Brother, it is the best beer I have ever tasted and it only comes in litres. LOL
Here you are OP, can you write a small ditty on German beer?
I bet you could make it sound 100 times better than it really is.
