The idea of a one world government has been bandied about on this site, and in pop culture for quite a long time now. Its been the subject of fiction
in various guises, best example being the United Federation Of Planets in Star Trek, which sees Earth under a utopian umbrella of interplanetary
protection, and governed as a single people, with a single purpose.
However the trouble is that the best examples in fiction, require the most powerful people, to be the most moraly advanced , but right now this
planets individual nations are run by fantasticaly powerful, and often obscenely wealthy people with all the moral fortitude of a death camp warden.
And even more unfortunate than that, there are clear big picture problems with the people who control the majority of the money world wide. You see
there are some amazingly wealthy people who , although not affiliated with any particular government , have the financial strength to lobby in
virtualy any state which opperates democracy, and in other states simply buys the loyalty of the amateur megalomaniacs running the place at the
time.
And there seems no end to the depravity , because even your cell phone, your laptop, the nearest Apple product to you , have minerals which have been
taken from conflicted zones of africa and asia within them. Yes, your Ipod nano, or Ipad, or Macbook Air, paid for some lousy general to order a rape
gang to terrorise an entire nation somewhere you might never have even heard of! In a world where this sort of insanity is the order of things, a one
world government will never work. Until every nation achieves peace somehow, any governmental system which springs up to control it, will be in
control of a schizoid, broken, dying culture and at that point, any attempt to shoehorn the disperate thinking of uncounted different cultures, into
one melting pot will , by reason of the fact of the corruption in our species , cause the resultant superstate to be a failiure.
There is no answer. Some say that no government would be benificial to its people. I say there are ways to ensure that power does not corrupt, but I
get called a radical when I explain them, as if radical new thinking isnt actualy required to fix this age old , and utterly insane problem!
