I disagree with the first half of your statement,

But the second half I wholeheartedly agree with. What we know of history is what our elders decide what is appropriate to teach us when we are young. And on top of that so much of our history has been lost through the years. I wonder every day what we might know about the past is the Library at Alexandria never burned down.

I agree my friend, The Library at Alexandria would of held great and important knowledge.

I was wondering if you could explain a bit more why you disagree with the first half of my statement.

Without getting ihe into an intense metaphysical discussion about what is reality and how can reality be a hoax if we are experiencing it and debating its credentials.....blah blah blah

To me a hoax has to be something perpetrated on the people with the intent to misinform, but then in addition has to be admitted ot being a hoax, otherwise it is simply suspected of being a hoax.

A lot of what has been declared a hoax in this thread are not actually hoaxes, they are just thought to be hoaxes by those who posted them. One man's hoax is anothers truth, unless f course it is declared a hoax by the perpetrators ( or in the case of ATS, the mods!)

So that is why I disagree with your 1st point, because it can not possibly be decalred a hoax, unless Agent Smith, Neo and Morpheus free my mind of course, but then to everyone else it will still be reality.

The Greatest Hoax of all time is the governments claiming that they do everything for your good(people)..You are all victims,whether you choose to be or not.They play with psychology to program people to see things the way they want.They have little known weapons to subdue and condition people.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me youdidntseeme, and I 100% agree with what you say. Reality is a hard topic to place in a Hoax category because for so many people there is absolutely no proof that reality is anything but what they're living.

I could sit here and type for hours about reality and my views on it, but i'll leave that for the appropriate post.

unfortunately, one too-succesful hoax has been the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion (aka, Protocols of Zion), written by a vicious Russian nobleman in the 19th century, allegedly listing the agenda of a cabal of rich and powerful Jews. sort of a diablolic 'Report from Iron Mountain'. to this day there are fools buying into it.

I think that all the most important documents held at the Library (although who would know what those folks considered to be the most "important"?) were probably copied and/or spirited away before the library's multiple destructions. Probably transported to some secret sites in the desert. I doubt that anything tremendously important was left to be destroyed.

Besides, there was more than one Library. There were a number of smaller libraries. And I would imagine that a fair number of people who lived in Alexandria might have had private libraries with copies of their favorite works.

Anyway, I guess I'm saying that it's very likely that most if not all of the Library's documents were saved in one form or another, but we just haven't found them yet. There are a lot of places in the world for them to be hidden.

Yes it is possible that some copies still exist but just have remained hidden for how many years now.
In fact alot of what was in Alexandria were just the originals of many well known documents that were stolen from ships passing through and replaced with very well prepared forged copies. I have always believed that the destruction of that library was a huge loss to human history.

So what about the second half of a hoax, which is providing evidence of the lack of truth? Obviously religion and democracy wll never be admitted to being a hoax (which is what the defintion is), but evidence must prove it to be a hoax. We have your gut feeling on the two topics, but now lets get a look at the nuts and bolts of why you think that.

Again, self evident. Are there not 4000 or so religions that have come forth so far, all proclaiming to be the real deal, all conflicting however within their dogma .. ??? At most, only one of them thousands of religions can be correct and the rest are a hoax, or could they all be a hoax ??? I've tried to call them out on this hoax, but they never PUT UP or SHUT UP (I'm so sick of their never-ending threats of beheadings and eternal damnation in hell if I don't join their particular franchise religion... grrrr, they need to shut the hell up with all THAT !!! )

Not really sure the something being self-evident is really provided evidence, otherwise I wouldnt have asked you for your explanation, but if it is good enough for you then that should be more than enough, just not for me.

spending eternity in heaven with god or spending eternity in hell is the greatest hoax of western civilization. this is a false prophecy taught by gentile christ believers to give value to the gentile ruled christian church. the saved souls will reside with god on the new earth in the holy city new jerusalem. there has never been a time in the history of mankind that god commanded man to qualify for eternal life in heaven.god created man to be eternal earth dwellers.so. the need for man to qualify for eternal life in heaven with god or face eternal soul damnation in hell with satan is greatest hoax fed into my mind as a child by my parents.

You know, it could be a sin to put ones own thoughts and words into their god's own mouth, assuming there is any god. If there is are any god(s) lurking about, I myself certainly couldn't speak on behalf of those god(s) and make stuff up that I believe he/her/it/they/them might want to tell everyone.

Couldn't I just as easily proclaim that all these various god(s) created humans to be a nutritious food source for hungry space faring lizards that will be here in 2012 to harvest their livestock, ha. Yeah, maybe humans are meant to be turned into breakfast sausages for a higher intelligent species your god(s) have created elsewhere.

I'm calling hoax whenever anyone thinks they know what any possible god might be all about, especially when all their make-believe dogma conflicts with each other. Obviously a bunch of them ARE lying their asses off. I mean, was there a jesus or not? Are the muslims right or are the christians or those hoity toity oh so special chosen ones or another make-believing clan or none of the above?

I think humans are still a bunch of primitive naive superstitious monkeys and as such that makes them quite gullible when it comes to hoaxes. It's pretty easy to take advantage of a human once you get them to merely believe in the hoax. I don't blame that on them though, it's their god(s) fault for creating such an inferior creature, ha. Oh, and it's also the fault of those that spread and tell these lies too. Humans are totally gullible, they'll believe whatever they were indoctrinated and programmed to believe and be. You can even teach one to roll-over and bark like a dog if you offer them a big enough bone, such as a promise of heaven and a basket of virgins, or whatever turns them on, lol.
