Is there real evidence that Krakatoa/Krakatou has erupted?

Is Anak (son) Kraktatou the same as Krakatou itself, or is it a smaller/weaker volcano?

I have been looking online and I see references to "son of krakatou" because it arised in the same place after the last big eruption, but is it the same level of powerhouse volcano as it's father?

BTW!! I am not questioning that it erupted I am just trying to understand the difference between baby krakatau and krakatou itself! Are they two different volcanoes or the same one is basically what I am trying to figure out.

Growing up, forever it has been called Krakatoa,

Krakatau (Indonesian: Krakatau), often mispelled Krakatoa,

As already pointed out, Krakatau is the correct spelling and Krakatoa is the Americanized spelling. You think they changed the name so people don't freak out?
Your own reference discusses the misspelling issue. Maybe a larger number of results will help convince you some more on the spelling issue.

While Anak Krakatau is capable of a major, disruptive eruption, let's put this in some type of perspective before getting too doomy and gloomy.

On December 29, 1927, a group of Javanese fisherman who were startled by steam and debris bleching from the sea above the collapsed caldera, thus marking the reawakening of Krakatau after 44 years of calm. The activity continued, and on January 26, 1928 the rim of a basaltic scoria cone first appeared above sealevel. A year later, it had grown into a small island which was quickly dubbed Anak ("Child of") Krakatau. Anak Krakatau has erupted in most years since. Typically, these are rather mild strombolian to vulcanian eruptions of basaltic andesite lava flows and associated tephra deposits. Although they present little danger to surrounding islands, the eruptions from Anak Krakatau provide a constant reminder of the horror of 1883 - Lest we forget.

Yes, this thread is highly speculative, I created an earlier thread that contains only news on the current activity. This is most likely the volcano entering a new growth phase which it does once every year or two.

No wait!! You gotta be kidding me!!

I just finished reading this tread www.abovetopsecret.com...
So if this OP’s alert is right , almost (if not all) the major volcanoes on the Indonesian coastline could very well erupt in chain?

Even if Anak is just the child Of Krakatau, little child can wake up big Mama! Even if not a mojor one, it's still one more volcanic eruption to add to the list lately.

Holy #, it literally ERADICATED the island?

Really puts into perspective how bad this sort of thing can be, thank you.

No, there is virtually no chance that all of the volcanos in Indonesia will erupt at once. There is no "big momma" Krakatau as this volcano was born at the same location but was given a different name by the Indonesians. All of this is common knowledge and a little searching will turn up this information. All of this has been discussed many times before on these forums in old posts. I suggest you google search Krakatau and Anak Krakatau and you will quickly find they are one and the same. It's kind of depressing how so many original - fact based - threads hear are hijacked by people who quickly post new, sensationalitic threads trying to cause panic and grab views rather than stick to the facts of what's going on in a given, current event.

Well, it's quite easy to understand that Anak krakatau and Krakatau is one in the same. Obviously they wouldn’t have the same name DUH!

My point was adding to the speculation in the worse case scenario, since this region has now two volcanic eruptions. I’m not the sensationalist type but volcanic eruptions are quite big deals, especially for the residents nearby who have to evacuate.

I think this depends on whether it is on dry land or in the water. I am not a scientist so I am not certain. Perhaps someone can elaborate on this?

It seems more like you did a C&P of alot of statistics that don't mean anything other than, a big volcano errupted.
Also with this quote

I believe there are big changes going on in the world right now, and there is a definite increase in volcanic activity lately.

I believe that theres just more media coverage, instead of more activity.

It is not Krakatau, but Anak Krakatau, which means "child" of Krakatau. It is not uncommon as this is geological a brand new above see volcano that just crested the waves in only my lifetime. Also, Indonesian news says this is not a big deal today: www.antaranews.com...

There has been quite a bit of activity in the area of late.

If its due to large plate movements there will be many more to keep an eye on.

New video . it seems this son of Krakatoa is the volcano that is in the same spot as the original that totally blew apart. So yes in essence its the same volcano feed. Watch this short news video with new footage.

Mount Tambora erupted in 1815 which caused a year without a summer. While Krakatoa only caused a red sky in Norway, it is only better known because there was a Dutch settlement within clear view of the volcano.
