I think some banks are already having convenient "problems" to stop or restrict customers touching their money...

One of Ireland's biggest banks has issued an apology to customers after a systems failure meant that, for a time, they were unable to access their cash accounts.

The Bank of Ireland said it became aware at 1000 GMT on Tuesday that ATMs were not working and customers were unable to make online transactions.

A spokesperson said the fault had been largely rectified. However the amount of cash that can be withrdrawn via ATMs may be restricted.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but earlier in the year, Arianna Huffington was promoting just such a scheme to shift funds from the big banks into Credit Unions, where they do a better job of serving the community. Here's the contact for Move Your Money: moveyourmoney.info...
