as i mentioned before i am living in northern berlin.
that part of berlin is called "
reinickendorf"
one of reinickendorf.s locations is
tegel – i bet some of you have heard of tegel airport before -
yeah it is in reinickendorf!
this is one of the contrasts i love of berlin, there is the airport and you just turn around and see pictures like the ones in this thread so far.
following is a picture of the "sechserbrücke" - the harbor bridge at the lake tegel – sixpence bridge.
it has got its name - or actually the older version of it - by a ferry which was established by a berlin fisherman.
people wanted to walk in the forests of reinickendorf and at the lake tegel, they had to cross the flowing "fließ"
that fisherman took them over, charging five pfennig (penny) - which is called "sechser" - six pence - in berlin.
later on he built a small bridge and charged that fee to cross the bridge

today it is guest house of the department of foreing affairs
