Is it just me, or did the Iraq war/aftermath just completely disappear from the news and subsequently replaced with news of Afghanistan...and now Pakistan?
And what about this Gulf Oil Spill everyone was so crazy about? Seems almost like it never happened.
All I read about lately are trapped miners and financial meltdown.
Somebody trying to hide something? Maybe I'm just paranoid.edit on 15-10-2010 by xiphias because: (no reason given)

Two very valid points. The gulf oil spill went away pretty much right after they capped it, just like Hurricane Katrina was shut out of the public eye as soon as shte Superdome was evacuated. It seems that stories from the South just aren't in the nation's interest - what about the massive cleanup effort that BP promised - the press promised that they would follow up and make sure it was happening - which of course, they haven't done. I haven't seen a single follow up story about the Gulf since they capped the well.
Same with Iraq. Ever since the American "end of combat operations" it seems that stories about Iraq are few and far between in the news (although Afghan stories as you pointed out have increased), even though American troops are still dying in Iraq every week - it's still a very dangerous place.
Another story that seems to have disappeared from mainstream media that was whipped into an absolute frenzy was the mosque at ground zero - there has hardly been a report on this in the press lately, but they're still going ahead with it as far as I know.

You said it. When Obama ran for President, he said MANY times during his campaign "we're going to do what's right for America, not necessarily what is popular". He's followed through. A healthcare plan which is right for America but not popular, letting Bush tax cuts expire which is right for America but not popular, staying in Iraq to protect Oil Interests, which is right for America but not popular, keeping Guatanamo Bay open so they don't have to do trials in New York, which is right for America but not popular, Refusing a national moratorium on foreclosures, which is right for America but not popular.
He's done EXACTLY what he said he would do. He said on the campaign trail he would pass health care and let the tax cuts expire. He said many things he didn't do as well, such as shutting down Guatanamo Bay, but took the option every time that was right for America.
His position with the mosque at Ground Zero - right for America (freedom of religion as defined by the Constitution) but not popular.
Most Americans don't realize that the ONLY THING that the President is sworn to do is "to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic". He is sworn to protect the CONSTITUTION, not the PEOPLE or the COUNTRY or the TROOPS or the FLAG.
"This work is related to the probability that there is life somewhere else," said Breslow. "Everything that is going on on Earth occurred because the meteorites happened to land here. But they are obviously landing in other places. If there is another planet that has the water and all of the things that are needed for life, you should be able to get the same process rolling."

If I remember correctly the bonds were declared as forged and the two men were deported back to Japan.
A related question: If you commit a crime in one country and are deported for it what happens to you then? Are you charged with those crimes in your home country or let off with no charges? After they are deported I never hear anymore about it.edit on 10/9/2010 by LuFri because: (no reason given)
Also unknown are the whereabouts of the two men, who were released after being stopped in early June. Italian law does not call for the criminal arrest of persons found to be taking funds without permission to another country. It might have been another matter if the police had determined immediately that the bonds were false.
“The men were questioned, but not arrested,” said Naoki Oyakawa, an official at the Japanese consulate in Milan, which contacted judicial officials in Como after reading about the seizure in the Italian papers.
He said the two men had valid Japanese passports, but he would not elaborate further on their identities. “We don’t know where they are now,” he said. “We have had no contact with the two men. They have not asked us for our help.”
