This is something thats been buging me since the first news coverage of Operation Iraqi Freedom on CNN and stations like that. Anyway, why the heck do american soldiers wear the tan desert camo uniform, and the woodland camo flak jacket. Its not because they dont exist, ive seen desert camo flak jackets. Anyone know?

i remember reading somewhere that the supply of flak jackets was running very thin. it's possible they just ran out of desert camo ones and so are using the woodland ones instead?

With the hundreds of thousands of soldiers deployed world wide, and at a cost to the tax payer of hundreds per vest, do you really think we should buy new vests just so our colors match?
Besides, with all that silly "trying not to die" stuff, we have better things to do with our time than worry about how we look. We are just lucky to have the green ones.

And Canada was mocked for sending troops over to Afganistain in green camo. At least all of Canada's camo matched

I'd say it was a supply issue. Same was Canada's problem, do you know the geography of Canada, not hot sandy deserts to protect here. They have the desert camo now. Just as America didn't expect to have the large number of soldiers in the deserts of the middle east.

if they are trying to sneak they would not be opening any pockets and trying to make noise they are not stupid.

I thought they wore green because of the vegetation that grows in parts of the desert, especially the northern parts of the country. But it could have also been a supply problem due to the number of troops me moved there.

ok so your saying not once in a mission will a comander need a map, compass, fresh mag, silencer and or all other epuipment now i know you can attatch it to your webbing and such but you can only carry so much equipment on the outside and they will all be eqsposed to the weather.

devilwasp, its not a video game! If you are close enough to the enemy for him to hear it, he already knows your there. You think the pocket will make more noise than a soldier's LBE or boots striking the ground?

Rule number one of sound discipline is once they know you are there, yell as loud as you damn well need to, make all the noise you want, just use hand signals for sensitive movement comunication.

I will tell you from experience that once you make contact with the enemy, all of that noise and light discipline, infantry movement tactics, hastfighting positions, all of that stuff goes right out the window. There is realy only one thing you can do to survive and still be able to look your self in the mirror. Kill the guy thats shooting at you. Then he won't be shooting at you anymore. Practice close quarters riffle marksmenship. The only thing that realy matters is that you and weapon move as one in the correct way.

mabey the velcro will help keep my MREs warm!

dude ur so wrong
iv been close enough for people to touch them and they didnt know i was there.
if your silent you can sneak and outflank people. when you preform a section attack the main squad opens fire, and makes lots of noise so the enemy looks at them, then the second squad outflanks them then charges them makeing as much noise as you can.

also a boot doesnt make much noise if it hits grass or dirt,i have worked it out to an art.

actually it might for a low trained soldier but if your well trained then you remember your drills. thats what will save you

i agree with the thing about weapon and you being one.

Cavscout.

That pretty much explains why so many Americans are killed or wounded and you inflict large casulties on innocents in Iraq.I remember seeing a British partrol that was ambushed from rooftops of surrounding building, because the attackers were using grenades noone returned fire because the assailants were hidden from view.If this patrol was American the would have opened the gates of hell a shoot at every area until the attack had ceased. Both examples would not have resulted in hits on the attackers unless they had velcro flak jacks and you could hear there location

Omg, this must be the easiest kill ever...

Imagine a guy walking down the desert in bright green camo, and he is canadian holding a sign saying "I stop for peace".

Shattered OUT...

It seems how it worked over there was, oh look a guy in green camo. Must be a Canadian, we don't hate them. Lets find some Americans in desert camo to shoot.
As sad as it is it seperated the two. Kind of like how a Canadian traveling in Europe gets treated a little better when people see the Canadian patch on their backpack. Canadians are less hated, they didn't want to be mistaken for Americans.

well that is true, canadians are less hated because they dont do anything, they just hang out in their corner of the world agreeing with the US without thinking because they are too busy playing hockey and just livin' (sorry about steriotypes) Also, on a large scale, how many US soldiers being killed/wounded in "battle" as opposed to canadian or french (who surrender all the time anways)(sorry, i had to do it)
