Would you kill an alien?

Frankly, I would be inclined to kill the human that is trying to kill the alien unless it is making clearly aggressive moves.

The idea that a super intelligent being would use its superior knowledge to come to earth just to get metal hurled at it really fast and die is laughable.

I'm pretty sure if other beings show up and are hostile, they'll be ready for your primitive metal throwing device.

Why?

Why does everyone always assume aliens are more intelligent than us? It is entirely possible that due to some necessity or political agenda, an alien race could have devoted all of its resources to mastering space travel, and still be significantly behind Earthlings in other areas.

Imagine if Earthlings had devoted 100% of our resources over the past 1000 years to getting off this planet. If we confirmed all of a sudden that the Earth would have a catastrophic event in 200 years, we could easily create the technology necessary to get out of here in 200 years. However, by diverting those resources, we would let social programs and weapons programs and other technologies suffer. This could be exactly the scenario that an alien race faced. They could have highly evolved spacecraft, but limited technology in other areas.

If I felt threatened ... sure. Why not?

Considering how they do painful experiments on humans and how they rip into cattle and sheep ... and how they mess with memories .... they have proven themselves NOT to be nice little critters at all.

I've got a 9 mil that I wouldn't mind using ... SPLAT goes their little grey heads!

I would in self defense. If one was hurting me yes but if it was friendly like a person I just met on the street then NO!


Why would you instantly kill when it's not being violent and just sitting there watching tv as you suggested.

I don't think all are bad.. You have good and bad in humans so why not in other forms of life?

i wouldn't kill anything either.. but i feel like we've been conditioned to have a lesser/non-existant level of reverence for alien life. in comic books, heros who otherwise wouldn't kill, are shown killing aliens, because "they're not human".

I have thought this out again and I doubt that the OP would even be able to get a shot off.

You are in the comfort of your home and you feel as thoough there is an intruder, first thing you would expect is a person, when greeted by an Alien, your whole world and perception of reality would crumble, you would stand there with a gun by your side with your jaw hanging and you trying to get words out of your mouth that may make a sound
more than likely your fright and flight instinct kicks in, you would run trying to fire behind you as you rush for the door, your adreniline is hitting so hard and fast that you couldn't even keep your arm straight to shoot, and to top it off, when you try and explain the shots you fired to the police you would be taken away and medicated and given a mental examination and have your gun taken away.

I don't see a reason why should I kill someone, especially an alien. They may be different, but that doesn't mean I will shoot it in the head just because it has one eye instead of two. If an extraterrestrial tries to murder or torture me, then sure, killing it will become an option of response. Until then though, let's try to be more friendly...

SO Being from another world use their superior knowledge of space travel to come to earth to pick a fight without decent weapons? I guess its possible, but i would be thinking the type of beings you describe wouldn't show up with hostile intentions.

It is threads like these that make me wish there was a button on here better than "FOE" because I wouldn't mark the OP as "My Foe who keeps me in my toes" (or something to that effect) when you select the foe dropdown on a person's profile. There should be a "Creep" button so when I select that on you it says "Creepy poster with latent psychopathic intentions. Not someone you would ever want to meet in real life"

You are right. I missed the "and are hostile" part of your post. The case I make is for aliens just showing up, not necessarily being hostile.

However, the OP stated the hypothetical alien was just "chilling on the couch." The only hostile entity is the trigger happy OP that would probably have ended up killing his own kid in a halloween costume. If alien's show up, and they are hostile, we might be in big trouble.

If it is an either me or him sort of situation yes. I'm not much for the Obi-Wan / Jesus way of "let them kill you even if you could stop it" thing.

If it isn't a life or death situation, though, I see no reason to kill.

How would killing a species that obviously has technology that is way more advanced than ours... (since he had to travel from some other planet to get to your couch) help humanity at all? That kind of seems like a good way to tell other visitors that we are hostile and would love to fight. I mean I guess if the alien was trying to attack me then yeah I would try and defend myself because if their out to get us to begin with...then I guess we are screwed anyways.

Well I have not had a date in a while so if it was a female that looked like Neytiri things might get interesting.

But as to the question would I kill an alien I would have to say that would be left up to the alien in question. If it made it back to where it came from would be up to it. Yes, I would kill if I had to but would prefer not to.

this is a very interesting post. the question presumes 2 options: 1) that any and all extraterrestrials life is our common enemy and have hostile intentions; or, 2) stupidity is given more credence than curiousity.

I would think that if an alien was able to somehow make it to our world that they would be more intelligent than us. Having said that, if an alien was chilling on my couch, I would think that it could have already killed me if it wanted to. Conversely, were it a home invasion type scenario (ie I am watching TV in my living room and they break down the door and rush in), I don't know if you would have time to get the gun. I would probably be hoping they just did not know how to knock lol. ::shrug::

Kill only if the alien appears hostile.
