This is the truth, the truth is you, if it is you.

That means if there was just one of us, and that one person believed Aliens were coming, then accordingly, they would arrive.

They are testing this theory right now, with the fuss in regards to UN appointing an Alien ambassador, etc..

LAST Sunday, it emerged that the UN was set to appoint a Malaysian astrophysicist called Mazlan Othman to lead international efforts to respond to visitors from outer space. As the article in the Sunday Times explained, Dr Othman is the head of the UN’s Office for Outer Space Affairs (Unoosa).

www.economist.com...

We have to look at world trend in order to test this theory, hence Aliens should arrive when the majority of people believe they will arrive.

If they do arrive, can we ever come to a conclusive conclusion, that it was our belief which made it true, not the other way around, as we believe now, we believe it is the truth which made it happen, and the truth is not related to our belief.

And I want to know what you guys think about this guy's comment:

I am aware that by merely observing something we can cause its existence and/or influence it to act in the way it does, be it from sticking a cold thermometer in to a warm bowl of water and therefore lower the temperature of the water, to the classic wave/particle experiment with photons and slits.

www.physicsforums.com...

Is he correct in his knowledge? If so, how do you analyze and what do you make of such information?

Doesn't it mean, that we make it happen?

What do you guys think

oz

Okay, okay I've got to be sceptical about this - it could happen...

See sceptical thinking allows for a highly improbable situation to occur.

Sorry to say this but belief doesn't make it so. Perhaps in quantum mechanics you can effect the outcome merely by observation but I don't think it works on the Universe on a large scale. As we've seen in physics the rules tend to break down when we get down to a quantum level while on the surface everything works fairly well according to the Standard Model. I don't think wishing for aliens, desiring them, etc, is going to bring them into existence or closer to Earth...

We're not gods, we can't just poof things into existence with our thoughts... However if you've got a sweet computer system and are chanting with a bra on your head you can accomplish just about anything

Simply theorizing that observation effects outcome is a far cry from theorizing that believing in anything can actually cause it to come into being.

People have believed in Gods for eons and not a single one has shown up to interact with us so far.

Maybe GOD did come and interacted with us and left us with those books, which all of them have that one message, to believe in GOD, so GOD can come back.

Get it>?

We have many Atheist in today's day and age with bitterly oppose GOD, they don't believe in it, and they are against it.

And many more just say they believe in it to fit, but truly they don't believe in it.

This can be tested

Ah but millions, maybe billions of children believe, wholeheartedly in a plethora of imaginary things and yet their belief doesn't end with a genesis of any life.

The North Pole is still bereft of a workshop and Santa is still just a million guys who take pictures in costumes for two months a year.

Just believing something doesn't make it happen or make it real.

For example, I believe this thread is a pile of tosh not even worthy of...oh shi.....

Does everyone in the world have the same belief as you?

Read it

Solipsism. Look it up, read it, think about it, have a cup of tea.

Oh, and take the dog out for a walk will you?

I find it funny that you are wasting your time commenting on a thread which you think is a joke.

You don't even bother refuting it, just joking around.

I think you need to take the dog for a walk

My dog died!

Is it because you wanted it to die and sent that message back through time to when I was 4 years old or is it just something that happens?

Just so you know snookums I don't argue with creationists either. Validating such nonsense with anything other than nonsense only gives it a smidgen of credibility.

I'll take the observable universe and theories which work within it over any cult of yours any day of the week (Except Tuesday) and I'd like it if you kept your 'truth' to yourself instead of trying to infect those who may be prone or vulnerable to those who even claim to know there is a 'truth' never mind extolling it as fact.

Based on what conclusive evidence did you come to that conclusion?

How about the observation that millions of people wish for things every day and believe as hard as they can without it ever being real.

My little sister thought she could turn herself into a fairy or a mermaid if she believed hard enough... it didn't work.

Belief doesn't make it so, that much is obvious.

So you don't want to refute it, and yet you are here wasting your own time.

WOW, you must be a genius, it shows your own credibility.

The observable universe doesn't refute this theory.

You can believe what ever you want.

In the end, it is ideas which has brought us this far, I don't think people will stop now and freeze in time because people like you can't seem to go forward, because of your arrogance.

You're no different than the creationists, we call you close minded people

This is part of the blame game, isn't it?
If aliens don't arrive, it's the fault of the nasty wicked people who don't believe.
Something will have to be done about them...

Thanks for that complete psychological diagnosis snookums - evidently because you believe it to be true it is.

So a few of these religious folks must be wrong about their beliefs - one god or none or many, some with pork, some without, some with many wives and others with one or none (homosexuality and that - you know!).

So all these believers are right eh?

Sure they are - why not?

Tie it into an unverifiable quantum universe where every possibility can and does exist then sure why not indeed??

Or you can try living in the same world as me where things like that are meant for uneducated children to believe due to the lack of knowledge we have to offer them (Or for some sicko's fun).

You keep your unverifiable truth and I'll stick to the best our best minds have at this moment in time.

Actually if you read the OP properly you wouldn't say that, even the title says it, "if enough of us believe Aliens are arriving, they will arrive".

But individual belief also effects us and the universe surrounding us.

For example we believe we could fly to the moon, and we found a way to go there.

Some believe they are healed by religious people, and they get healed, right there on the spot.

Some believe drugs/medicine heals them, and it does, some other people, give them the same drugs/medicine for the same problem, it won't cure that person.

Ergo kill the lawyers, the non believers, the Muslims, the Jews, the critical thinkers or anyone else who gets in the way of it.

Someone watches too many Kevin Costner films don't they?

That's an absurd cop-out... so how many people need to believe in order for our thoughts to somehow gain power over reality?
...

Do you know how many people believe in Santa Claus, Jesus, Allah, etc? I'm sorry but if two BILLION Christians can believe in Jesus without him showing up than I declare the idea of our thoughts changing reality directly to be fully debunked.
