About as much sense as having a densely packed city next to the ocean & built below sea level & in hurricane territory. But the American taxpayer seems to be putting billion upon billion into that 'destined to doom' fiasco.

If Vegas goes tits-up, you know there will be buildings burning, exploding, or other device to collect insurance and/or a bunch of casino owners wallowing in self-pity in front of congress for "their" bailout.
Maybe the cat houses will even get in on it.
Bankers might get angry and go for another heaping helping themselves, subsequently.
I guess we might expect more Gov't spending, I mean - "what the hell?" It's so far out of control now, what's a few more trillion?
China will then have reason to invade. And with the size of their army, there just aren't enough bullets to stop them.

Hey Op, you have every reason to blame this on Obama.
Remember the comment he made several months ago where he told us to be smart and not to blow our money in Las Vegas?

Restaurants from all around the world
World Famous buffets in any price range
Shows also at many price ranges from FREE to the likes of Mystere
Star Trek the Experience, Celebrity meet and Greet
Las Vegas Speedway is a world class track for the racing fan
And if your a conspiracy theorist, its the Alien Meca with Nellis, Area 51, Hanet Airlines, Edwards AFD and NASA Dryden facility within a short drive

Heck we even have the Eiffel Tower

You never need to drop a dime into a slot machine

But hey what do I know... I only live here and don't gamble... and take advantage of the locals 2 for 1 specials

I was there last month and it was practically a ghost town. There were people there, but it was nowhere near packed. Most casinos had empty lots

Most people don't go to the desert during summer months. If it's a ghost town in December then there's definitely a problem.

Its a recession
but conventions are slow during summer months I get an annual paid vacation of about 2 months every year... this year it was 3... but the union has already reopened the apprentice program for the expected revival next year

I love it in the off seasons between conventions No crowds cheap deals to be had

Thank's for all that info zorgon. I'm still going and thanks for letting me know some cool things to see. I'm still trying to decide if I'll go to Area 51. I will probably end up going. I want to see as much as I can, cause I probably won't get the chance again.

Las Vegas is not hurting that bad.

Many companies have moved from Calif to Nevada.
The state rules. regulations, taxes, and other laws have drove them out of calif to Nevada.
with the Internet you can run a business from Nevada have your warehouse in Nevada and ship from Nevada.
big name companies like Amazon do this. as there is no inventory tax in Nevada unlike Calif.
www.its4logistics.com...
www.nvenergy.com...

Even a number of the rich corporation owners have offices in Las Vegas.

Because there is no state income tax in Nevada, a company owner can lease a small office and have a answering service forward his phone calls back to Calif.
He gets paid out of his Nevada office even though he spends most of his time in Calif.
Using that system is one of the biggest income tax scams in the US.

Why do you think Nevada corporations are used by businesses.

This Nevada corporation can also be used to register cars, motor homes, saving the owner money.

A number of actors have condos or apartments in las Vegas and you can claim Nevada residency if you live in Nevada for only 6 weeks a year. any actor can catch a 45 min flight from John Wayne airport to las Vegas and spend the weekend in Vegas.
21 weekends a year and you are a legal Nevada resident.
If a actor contracts out his services through a Nevada corporation he owns its hard to prove what income is made in calif or what in Nevada.
Nevada and Texas are the only two states that do not have information sharing agreements with the Internal Revenue Service.
here are the types of services you can get with a Nevada corporation

Well, Zorgon, everything is just great then !! The enthusiasm is nice, but i must say your town is going down, i was just there and its nothing like it was even last year...which was empty compared to how it was most all years, including any recessions.

Nice writing! And you're absolutely right.

I've never been to Vegas, but I've been all over the world.

I want to see real castles, real art, real history.

I dont think it matters much to the casino owners...they made their money back; as did most of the businesses there, in Sin City. Sure, it may suck NOW...but it most certainly had a good run at it! So, why exactly feel bad? I'm sure the big fish are pleased; swindling billions of dollars...from STUPID people. The game is RIGGED and people still THINK they can beat it??? Eventhough, ALL of the 'odds' have been done by mathematicians; whereas the average joe can't multiply double digit numbers in their tiny little brains.

I'm SURE, they KNEW Vegas had a 'life expectancy'...and probably made plans accordingly. Oh snap, i just had a 'vision', Naaaaaaaaaaaah...they would never do that....would they? Well, IF they do...let it be known who saw it first.

Vegas is hot and cold ....

right now unemployment is "officially" at 15%.

BUT, many if not most people are cut to 32 hours if not part time.

that makes the real number around 30%.

the tourist joints on the strip are ok for now ... the big spenders keep coming.

stay away from the "local" joints like gold Coast, Orleans, Stations ... etc. and especially downtown.

the casinos that are hurt'in have the worst employees and the least paid ... the "real" nevada hillbillies!!!

construction is always on again off again.

no jobs anywhere.

Hi guys, jesikahyden says about Cheapest Motor home insurance Do not insure the motor home under a standard car insurance policy. This is a common mistake made by motor home owners. It may seem similar and it may save you a little money, but it will often leave you uncovered when you need it most.

If Harry Reid didn't pull the plug on Yucca Mountain Nevada would have lots more money and jobs.

Every American pays extra for electricity which is put into the ''nuclear waste repository fund''.

There's Billions in that fund and it was all meant for Nevada to get. In exchange for all the States being able to stuff their nuclear waste into that mountain.

Blame Harry Reid for Vegas not having money and jobs.

Sound advice. For every responsible gambler, there must be a multitude of idiots blowing the kids' college tuition on the craps tables. I got nothing personal against the city, but like someone said, it doesn't take a genius to realize its economy is built on a foundation of sand.

Not really a good analogy. There is a reason it's where it is. New Orleans sits near the mouth of the Mississippi River. Historically, it's an important port going back hundreds of years.
