In a Universe with likely BILLIONS of sentient beings, it still amazes me how we think our ancient held gods could possibly account for what's out
there.
Peace, love.... While quaint concepts, our world is one of constant struggle and contest, from the smallest organism, to us. Peace and love do NOT
seem to be key concerns if there is a divine creator. Indeed, our planet's history is one of constantly changed life experiments to see what survives
and thrives, and what doesn't. (and even tales of these gods interfering to wipe us and others out in the process!)
There's no reason to infer that any other planet would be different. (to a point)
The ONLY thing that changes this though, is actually a good thing for the whole peace and love crowd. All war on this planet is a contest for the
control of resources. Yes, no matter how you slice it, ALL contest is for this, whether it's money, or power over other resources, it all comes back
to this in the end.
However, once a sentient species can travel interstellar distances, resources become for all intents and purposes, INFINITE. So the motivation for
contest evaporates. It will be curious to see how this changes us as a species. Indeed, it's always been my belief that until we get there, any other
sentients would do well to avoid us (or at least observe us in secret), lest we do battle with them as well, for their resources and tech. Obviously,
they don't feel we're ready for it yet, or we'd be traveling the stars by now.
There is no rapture, no judgement day, no doom befalling us, anymore than there ever was every time this was proclaimed. And even if there were, would
being threatened into good people make us truly good people, or just cowards? Bah, it's a moot point.
Just live the best you can, and try to treat others as you wish to be treated. See? All religion in a nutshell without all the rituals, dogmas, and
weird traditions. No drinking of blood or eating of flesh required. Just try not to be a dick. See, easy!
