So I noticed many ATS users try to make a big impression by googling and then uploading an Avatar to their profile. Humans are beings that are obsessed with image and what others think of them. Were are people getting these Avatars for their profiles?

I have to be honest. My avatar IS me.

The first thing people notice is your looks, before speaking to you, before touching you, before what ever, your outlook creates that first impression.

Do you understand what the above statement means?

In the Internet, it is pretty much the same, they see your avatar before even reading your poss, so the best thing to do is, to express yourself through your avatar.

What ever that means.

Corny, welcome to the cool people party!.

I found out that your avatar is a bit too sexy for my liking. Can you cover up a bit the corn ? especially at the bottom areas, it reveal a bit too much and I got kids walking around, can you consider using the leaf to cover it ? anyway, grats for using colour, some people still stuck with monochrome settings! .

Thanks! I didn't get an invite, so I just crashed in. I'm afraid that I cannot cover up my corn, as it's a statement which depicts the blight of society in the modern world, the power of the elite, as well as the sexuality in the vegetable industry. I asked the corn to kindly cover up, but it said it didn't give a shuck what anyone thought of it. Damn promiscuous veggies!

Hehe, I just updated my avatar.

Three things....First, I don't have the time to put in the effort of creating my own avatar. Second, I don't have the technical know-how of doing it anyway. Lastly, don't try to figure out the psychology involved with us ATSers, you'll just end up with a headache.

Is that from the Elephant Man? "...hospital night porter (Michael Elphick) sees a money spinner and each evening gathers a drunken crowd of people who will pay any price to see the freak."

Or are you Michael Elphick?

I had this avi since day one I joined ats and I'm not about to change it soon. It's how people recognize me and my posts (and some will probably scroll down right away, lol)
Just look at the avi's of the site owners, everyone recognizes them right away, imagine if they didn't have one: their posts wouldn't be read by many.

Personally I make avi's for other people on request, before I start I usually ask the person what they want their avatar to reflect, what does it have to 'say'. Some just like a pretty image, others want some of their own personality or interests in it.
An avi can say a lot about a person if they created it themselfs, and sometimes it's clear from the image that the person doesn't want us to know anything about them.

One unfortunate fact is, if you don't have an avi, a lot of people tend to scroll down and not read your post, they figure your just another newbie or some faceless entity... while a nice avi will get your posts read more often. People just stop when they see a nice image (no matter what it says).

Instant friend request, hahaha.
Image. Bragging. This is a big part of the downfall of our society IMO. Who gives a freak?
Everyone, it would seem !
Ego. Greed? Greed for self importance. =ego.
Can't these foos realize we are but one of appx. 60 billion humans who have loved, cried, hurt, starved, given birth, protected, fought, wanted?
What makes one human or human animal for that matter, so dang superior?
Nuttin.
May we all learn to love one another and live in peace.
Laugh all you want,
there is nothing more vital.

I made my avatar. I like grey aliens and another member made me an avy with the main grey and I just redid it and added more to it. There isn't anything special about it. My avy has personal meaning to me, I dont really care what others think of it.

When I used to play warcraft one of my best friends on there suddenly started to make female characters and this kind of spoiled my game. I liked the pretence of running around killing stuff with this male at my side and told him so, (even though wow characters are ugly in general, lol). Then he pointed out he was sick of looking at his boring avatar so he made girly ones because they were nicer to look at. I saw his point, so now I make cool male avatars on here that are pleasing to my eyes. It's not to make me look cool. It's for me to look at, and I look at my avatar a lot. Lee Byung-hun FTW

I just like to mess around with photo-shop sometimes.

If I had paradigm in my name I might choose an image like this one. I could crop it, layer it, put words in it, whatever................kinda like an etch a sketch with more knobs. just something to do.

you want a finished version?

Lol @ the OP's statement.

I've chosen this avatar because it's from a game *I* like. The text however is a feeling I have, "One of many". Because that's exactly what I am.

I chose my avatar to portray my likes and my feelings, not in hopes of getting anyone else's approval.
