I seen the picture of you adorable baby if I had a grandchild I will be gone from ATS for a while too.

Marg....you won't believe it...but she's over a year old now. Yes...time has gone that quick. I quit putting pictures of her on ATS (I loved showing her off ), but she's getting old enough now where I worry about strangers seeing her pictures so I quit doing it.

She's extremely smart. She started walking at 10 months and said "da da" at 4 months....I even got it on video!!!!

Anyway, I always love your posts and hope nothing but the best for you and your family....and that goes to pretty much everyone else on ATS....even if I don't agree with ANYTHING you might state on a day to day basis.

Thanks David and take care of that baby with your life, they grow so fast and before you even notice they are already adults, and you get to wonder where the years went by, and so fast.

I'm happy to see that the list is dynamic, apparently updating every week or so, as it gives the newest members a chance to rank. I've moved up from unlucky #13 to the more appeasing #12. However, those top five members look like they have their position carved in stone for the time being, considering the gigantic gap seperating them from the rest of us. Way to go guys/gals!

Do I detect a note of dissatisfaction amongst the ranks with the current star/flag system? Well, in my opinion, there should be, because the current WATS system does not reflect the totality of the ATS experience. In fact, it's almost a slap in the face to the mods here- your carefully placed applauses over the years essentially mean nothing to the WATS system.

You know what...let's call a spade a spade. I am not going to be afraid to speak up. This system is geared towards contributions, not quality, and hence commercialism. There, I said it so you don't have to. And it's frankly just sad. But nothing personal, mind you, it's just business.

I happen to agree with SO on this (not including applause). If it wasn't that Mods would be "padding" their favorite members, people would think it is. To factor applause in the equation, would essentially be a Mod and FSME vote only on the ranking (or part therein). Not only that, but I'm sure there are subjects that don't get applauded as well or as much as others subjects, due to the distrobution of Mods throughout the board. With the S&F tally, it is everyone essentially voting (in a some-what less than perfect system, of course).

With that being said, I don't think there is a "perfect" way to do it, that would make everyone happy, though it would seem that the star and flag system is the best way to go. What I was thinking about, is the ratio of stars to posts and flags to threads, but that wouldn't wouldn't be fair to the members who racked up posts before the star system came about. With that, I believe that the current WATS system is the fairest, unless of course I'm missing something (as with anything).

Now, I'm sure that members aren't looking at the WATS system as a "be all, end all" guide to credability or intelligence. Instead, members should it for exactly what it is, members who have the highest flag and star counts. I think that most members are bright enough to realize that stars and flags don't speak for the member's intelligence and a lack thereof certainly don't speak for the quality of content by a member.

An argument could be made that there are certain phonetic constructs inflect the mind more than others...

There is likely a physiological reason why the letter "N" in the English language is mostly associated with negative connotation.

Such is the distinction between 'Shit' and 'Crap'...the level of perceived connotation...and why civility is required for discussion here...to avoid as much as possible inadvertent inferences...
