You also say it will reach us at nearly the speed of light and it will take 10-12 YEARS to pass through the solar sistem. So you're saying this wave is 10-12 light years long?

notice he said nothing about bombs.

The claims in this article are fabricated. and not backed up by any quotes from scientists. there will be a solar storm that can disrupt satalites, and electricity grids. thats about it. the only way this is similar to 100m bombs is the emp from a nuclear bomb.

Why then is it hard to believe this will happen again? The effects are experienced and well documented over the past two centuries, only difference now is we rely much more on electric and electromagnetic apparature, thus the effects will have greater impact on our society (it's not just telegraphs anymore). Unless you're an android, you have nothing to fear. Scientists aren't certain there will be a major flare, they just suspect there will be one based on historical records. They are not even sure if it will be in 2012 or 2013, so all you doomsday fans relax. The chief concern is the impact a massive event will have on our electronic infrastructure. The absolute worst case scenario is that mobile phones might go down for a few hours and some power grids might overload and black out. Bizzarely enough, planes don't use GPS navigation, although if the ground radar system they use goes out, there will be a lot of old fashioned navigating going on. The most devastating result of the absolutely worst case scenario is that ATMs will go off-line and credit cards won't authorize. The fix: always carry cash and keep all your financial records on paper as well as on your computer... but you should be doing that anyway.

Hoping to interject a bit of balance to this thread.
First of all, the pseudoscience claims around here are SERIOUSLY getting out of hand. It's one of the main reasons I seldom post these days. It profoundly takes away from intelligent discussion on real issues we are likely going to be facing.
As I've stated many times, I believe there is truth in the legends. I also feel that much valuable information is kept from us, particularly scientific discoveries and more so the threats of calamity.
Are we going to face real solar issues and threats in our lifetime, MOST LIKELY. Natural disasters and earth changing events........ positively. It's alluded to much too often in an offhanded way for there not to be validity in it. Every rumour is born of some small truth.
These changes will come in the form of something tangible..... something science can explain eventually; Not imaginary space dust (or photon belt), vibrations or light bodies.
The spirit and some of the intention behind the 'ascension' proclamations do seem to be in good nature. Everyone should be puting positive energy into the universe. That's a given. Is it going to get you to some magical world? Unlikely....... but maybe some nice karma in the next go round.
I sincerely hope I didn't offend anyone. Just wanted to express that some of us are actually still trying to make real sense of what we're experiencing.

X-class flares are major events that can trigger radio blackouts around the world and long-lasting radiation storms in the upper atmosphere that can damage or destroy satellites. The biggest previous solar flares on record were rated X20, on 2 April 2001 and 16 August 1989.

The next solar maximum is supposed to be bigger than anything we have have seen so far at least in modern records.

If an X45 flare could occur during part of a solar cycle that was not supposed to be as strong as the next peak is supposed to be, and there were actually a total of 9 X flares with the X45 being the largest, imagine what could very well happen in the next solar maximum when it has been estimated that the 2012-2013 maximum will be stronger than any of the Solar maximum in the 19th and 20th century.

From that same article lets hear what researcher Neil Thomson said would have happened if the X45 would haave hit Earth.

"This makes it more than twice as large as any previously recorded flare, and if the accompanying particle and magnetic storm had been aimed at the Earth, the damage to some satellites and electrical networks could have been considerable," says Thomson. Their calculations show that the flare's x-ray radiation bombarding the atmosphere was equivalent to that of 5,000 Suns, though none of it reached the Earth's surface, the researchers say.

What people don't seem to understand is how dependable we are on electronics these days.

Guess what? whenever this hits, and if such a powerful solar storm hits Earth medical equipments could very well fry, and millions of people depend on such equipment...

Guess what? how do you think food gets to the supermarket, and how do they know the quantities needed, and when food must be shipped to supermarkets? That's right, it is all handled by computers. Can you run a computer if the electricity is down for hours, days, weeks and even months?...

Is it going to be the end of the world? no, but it could be catastrophic, and it is myopic and irresponsible to just say "pfft, nothing is going to happen if you believe in this you are too gullible"....

TPTB have known about the EVENT for over 60 years. Why do you think theyve been building all those underground bases & cities. Only a select few will be tapped on the shoulder to head for the bases when the time comes. The rest of us slaves will just have to fend for ourselves.
