I feel a bit like a two year old brutally spanked for asking a question!

yes, those are chinese lanterns apparently. yes, I did search for it but I didn't search "highland UFO"

I learned to not trust The Scottish Sun or all the people who apparently lied, can't tell what an object is doing, and that some people on ATS think people see camera shake live with their eyes...

Chinese lanterns or not this thread has been a mess!

Hi Thermo Klein, thanks for sharing.

In the video you posted it’s for me impossible to say what those lights could have been.

Only if someone else had filmed the moments of where those lights flew at high speed in random spirals closer and closer to the village it could be helpful to debunk at least the Chinese lanterns claim.

Thank you spacevisitor, for treating me like a human being!

I know I jumped to conclusions too soon and believed what The Sun published; it was a mistake. I really appreciate you, the ONE person, who didn't capitalize on trying to make me feel stupid.

Scotland has a good UFO history. I went out my way to once visit the site of the famous Robert Taylor abduction incident.

This video is compelling. Whilst I understand chinese lanterns are now readily available on the internet, and I even know people who set them off, this video confuses me on several fronts.

1) Chinese Lanterns do not last for 2 hours.

2) They do not burn white. Even lo-res videos of lanterns capture their orange/red glow.

So therefore lanterns might have been released in the area, but who says that is what we are seeing here?

I saw a UFO over Edinburgh one time that looked a lot like a lantern, but it was at a very high altitude and it shot away with speed. My friends and I had climbed into a graveyard and were enjoying a few Js, so maybe our story is not the best.

Brilliant... but totally wrong. you must be very proud of that huge ego you have. Nice job.

I'm going to guess you've never educated anyone.

You are allowed to call it brilliant, you are even allowed to mention huge egos but if you mention wrong then you have to mention why it's wrong.

Otherwise it's just someone on a soapbox lauding their opinions to an audience.

So tell me how you manage to tell 'debunkers' what it 'is not' whilst simultaneously asking people for their 'opinions' but having 'not stated your own'?

Seems to me you believe in ET and are prepared to look like foolish in the eyes of those who use their eyes to do so.

I could be wrong though and hope I am.

Well done Mor,

You managed to attack somebodies position without actually engaging with the topic properly yourself. Practically bullying (maybe that's going too far but you catch my drift) Thermo but then not really having any position other than one based on assumptions is pretty weak stuff really. Neither of you actually presents anything resembling a proper analysis.

I would try a less aggressive approach and then lead the subject to a realisation. All the approach taken here is likely to do is alienate NOT educate. If that was an attempt to educate then - must try harder.. (Yes, I have experience teaching science in a high school albeit, admittedly, not many years.)

I know that there is really not enough evidence here for much of an analysis, it being just a video clip of some lights. However, your little joust is close to pointless and adds practically nothing to the debate. In fact it's looks more like, "Lets discuss each others approach cos there isn't a fat lot else in this thread..."

Now that I have pointlessly attacked somebodies approach (yes I know lol), for the record, looks like it could well be lanterns but more evidence needed to be sure.

Am I going to need an Avatar to get my post noticed?

I questioned the original material. If it was lanterns, how did they stay aloft for 2 hours? Also why are they so white in the source vid? Jeez.

Witnesses were saying some of them suddenly took off at high speeds, so how that can be lanterns alludes common sense...

Are there some new high tech Chinese lanterns with jet, rocket, ELM propulsion? Just curious, maybe the lantern crowd can clear up this blaring contridiction?

Thanks

I noticed that too. I'm not in the Highlands, (what a weird accent they have), I'm at the East coast, but we've had a whippy wind here the last couple of days, so I can understand a chinese lantern might move fast and slow and perhaps change direction, but definitely not shoot around at great speed. They're probably exaggerating anyway.
I think the fact that anyone can light a lantern and get it to fly is a phenomenon in itself. I bought a batch a couple of years ago and have used about a dozen. Of that dozen I got one to fly away. The rest tilted in the wind, caught fire, and fell to the ground. Dangerous things. It's amazing that nobody's hoose has burned down.
