I just looked into this one, yes it does, with an evaporation rate of 0.1 (based on n-butyl acetate = 1.0), compared with an evaporation rate of 0.3 in water, so if there were to be 2 pools of the same volume, one of water, one of corexit, 25% of the total evaporation would be corexit.

That's in a nutshell, obviously there are other factors such as boiling point, so in reality it would be be slightly less due to a higher boiling point.

And on top of that it is diluted in the water in the GoM so obviously would not actually make up that much a percentage of the evaporation, but yes it, it does evaporate.

www.valdezlink.com...
www.ilpi.com...

The top link is the chemical make-up and data on Corexit
The second is a page on evaporation rates, with links to equations.

If anyone who is good at maths wants a crack at these plz?

Of course Nalco's own website states that it is safe, in fact, in Nalco's own words:

COREXIT 9500 largely biodegraded in 28 days

Corexit largely biodegrades in 28 days. I cannot find anything statistical in regards to how much is meant be largely, this site humidcity.com... states that 78% of the mixture biodegrades within the 28 day day time frame, leaving 22%. This cites the Bellingham Herald newspaper as a source, however the article is no longer avaliable.

Obviously am not stating this as fact, as there don't seem to be any statistics of this type, but to look at this hypothetically, this 22% would amount to around 220,000 gallons.

It is that word though, largely, and one wonders just what percentage we are talking.

This is a fantastic collection of info.

Thank you to both of your for your effort.

Now cnn is starting to cover the fact that BP over used the corexit, and with both aerial spraying and sub sea dispersing, they said it could take years to find out just how dangerous the stuff really is.

Also the landfill where they were taking all the clean up waste, they said the landfill is safe because there is a liner underneath the whole landfill. They didn't say what the liner is made from. If it is a rubber or plastic product, does that mean it will break down from the corexit?

thanks for the post.a very good friend of mine has just come back from la.
he has family down there.anyway he was down there for almost a month helping the family with their fishing business and was working with clean up efforts down there.but now he is suffering with what skin ulcerations.
he has them up and down his arms, stomach and back.its a terrible sight.he
said they burn constantly and they are bleeding.he has went to the hospital here and was sent to a dermatoligist.they are trying different medicines to help the sores.all i can say is that stuff must be really
dangerous.because using the proper equipment to protect himself really has had no effect.

see, its a double edged sword because there won't be any corexit-oil rain across the US ..

its truly disturbing to find more than a few people who believe that oil and corexit cannot pollute the atmosphere and come down as rain. this is simply not true!

anyone who has not seen the video of the pilot who recently returned from a 5 hour tour of the gulf, and seen pictures of his plane COVERED with oil, might possibly be excused for ignorance. but that videos has gotten 12,000 hits and needs to be seen by anyone thinking "oil cant evaporate". (video.godlikeproductions.com...)

OIL/COREXIT IS IN THE AIR. it travels which way the wind blows .. which is generall from off shore. IT TRAVELS WITH THE AIR. if you're in its path, you're breathing it. if you're not in its path, it still travels and eventually comes down either from downdrafts, or rain, or whatever. IT THEN CONTAMINATES SOIL AND GROUNDWATER.

it cant be much simpler.

well i knew that this was not good for human life.i just happened to see what it has done to my friend first hand.we were talking yesterday about long term effects of breathing it in.i hope he does not have problems in the future but im beginning to think this wont be the last of it.

Thanks for the s&f!

Yes, it's one of those things where its really, really turning me against tptb because, quite frankly, I'm not that educated and even I can see the effects of this c**p being poured in the sea.

There are far too many people out there who will believe anything they are told, I mean HOW is corexit safe. I have ONLY A-levels, which is college level education in the UK, but is taken at age 18, which makes it equivalent to high school in USA, so if I can see this, WHY is no-one else putting this out there?!?!?

Grrr... rufus is rehabbed, I will tell you that, because this is truly sobering!

I scream the same thing, "HEY IF I CAN FIGURE THIS OUT ON MY OWN WHY THE HELL ISN'T ANYONE ELSE DOING SO??????"

It was a stupid idea to sink the oil with Corexit, now they can't skim it. The only reason to put detergent on an oil spill is to keep the Coast Guard from spotting the slick and giving you a fine. I'll bet your common laundry detergent is more damaging to human cells than Corexit.

I'm going to send this thread article link to a member who contacted me via over a member of his family who has a terminal illness which COULD be a result of the COREXIT. As I was told via email she was diagnoised with a rare disease that affects the brain and there are many local meetings in the Louisana area that hold these meetings to get people to come forward with any information and to help other's out on the subject.

I have only read a few legitimate thread's here on ATS about the dangerous of Corexit and when I used to work in the Royal Engineer's Regt I have come across this chemical that COULD also be used for Aviation. At the time it didn't mean anything to me as it was placed in a small/medium warehouse and there was in the regions of about a dozen barrels about 100 litres each of this powder. It had the COSHH regulations and a BIG toxic symbol which I knew NOT to step inside there unless I had my NBC suit on.

I did speculate but then got a warning from the SSGT why I was poking around in there. It's just the Aviation that caught my attention becuase where I used to be based we didn't have an airstrip and that's why it has always stuck in the back of my brain.

Il leave it there but I do wonder why Corexit?

Firstly, I must apologize, I have not read this post at all, I only looked at the title and it was enough for me to come in and post.

There is another post that was started today.

AIDS is a Manmade Virus! This is page #5 with my most recent thoughts on it.

While discussing in the AIDS post I suddenly got the oddest feeling that Corexit is being used as a catalyst in bringing about the next big Mega-Million Dollar industry of Drugs to save peoples lives.

Please give this post a peek and tell me if you think I am just being stupid or paranoid. On page #3 I wrote my experiences dealing with HIV and AIDS in the early 1980's and onward, then by page #5 my mind suddenly opened to this sinister plan. I really do not want it to be true of course and I am not trying to speak with unsubstantiated statements. Without reading this post is probably me just being a 'screaming me me', but maybe someone on this post with more insight on Corexit might see a correlation here. It really seems so uncanny to me.

Thanks

OK, wow, I am done reading and I see that I had indeed started reading this post and I put a video as to how my brain was perceiving what the OP was saying. I had completely forgotten that.

Awesome Post OP! Thanks again!

I sure hope my thoughts are just thoughts, but please reach over to that AIDS post, it just gets me!

Yeah I had a look at that post it's good one, but I haven't had much time to think of an input to be honest and my days of posting sheer crap are over.

To be honest when it comes to the actual motivation of why this stuff was used I really don't know what to think. To me it screams just money and greed - 'lets sweep this stuff out of sight and mind under the surface to make it look like the sun shines out of our arse' sort of thing but of course there are other theories as most of us on ATS are aware.

On a lighter note you state on your AIDS post that corexit contains poppers - we better hope that hole in the earth under the GOM doesn't suddenly open up really wide

So many points to all of this

Was the GOM staged? Our Gov't sat on their duff and let a Corporation take care of it.

We know the FDA said to stop usage but BP continued and is still continuing to use Corexit.

Now the oil is stopped. Success! But to what extent?

Could you imagine if this is the next AIDS epidemic. Does anyone have the acronym they are calling the symptoms of the GOM exposure?

I really think this is less about Population reductions and more about Population Medications. Get everyone on a drug and make it cost a bundle and you will have Riches beyond that which AIDS or Cancer has brought in.

Poster child and all I bet they start a campaign towards 'Saving us' when we couldn't get them motivated about anything prior to this.
