Oh wow looks nasty, you know I have a scar on my shin from back when I was about 14yr old, "not fighting related" but it was even worse then Melvin's
shin injury, the scar has shrunk since back then but its still pretty recognizable on my shin as it went in the bone pretty deep. Hopefully he will
heal up quickly as it looks more like a flesh injury mostly, and those actually bleed more and look nastier.
But I want to make a point into shin kicks, not only do you have to harden up your shins and deaden you nerves over time, but you have to know what
your doing and were your aiming, and at what angle. If you kick at the wrong angle or in the wrong spot like in the hard part of the knee like Manhoef
did you can potentially do serious harm to yourself if not end up breaking your shin bones.
That's why I cringe when people always keep there leg straight in front of them without bending the knee when they fight, one good hard leg kick and
it will be gone. Even dudes who have been doing it for a long time like Muay Thai boxers or fighters like Cro Cop who can kick those banana trees.
Well once you start checking there kicks they will stop kicking, it's all a matter of angles and pressure if you hit the hard part of the knee or the
opponents shin while he is blocking it. You do stand a chance of injury or breakage even with years of practice and hardening of the shin bones.
The thing is you have greater chance of damage when you kick a dude then when your blocking or checking a low kick, because when your checking your
shin bone and leg are at an angle and can absorb the incoming hit.
But when you kick the moment you make contact your leg extends and your shin is straight compared to the guy who is blocking it who's shin and leg is
bent at an angle to absorb the impact better. When it comes in contact with the opponents shin, that puts a lot of pressure on a small area of your
shin bone, and its like breaking a board. Its a lot easier to break the board while somebody is holding it straight and you hit it right in the
middle, then it would be when its at an angle and you cant hit it right down the middle for a clean break.
Same concept applies to shin kicks.
But once again no doubt people seen these vids, and i don't think we get to many people coming to our little mma thread, here is a more visual point
in what I was talking about.
And here is a vid with a apt song that has a few shin breaks in it. With all the glorifying mma is getting lately its good to put it into peoples
heads that though its a sport it ain't all just fun, the dudes who get in there are not messing around, and they put there life and health on the line
each and every time they step in the octagon or the ring.
And even in amateur fights with pads on it can and does happen, just seen this on the youtube, the dude in blue breaks his shin at about 2:33 into the
fight if you don't want to watch the whole thing.
And also why not! This Forest Griffin demonstration on some dude on how not to stand when absorbing a kick, well according to that vid he had a
hairline fracture on his femur from that lazy kick Forrest threw.

Good points hombre, check check check those kicks! It does seem that not enough fighters either are aware of the checks, or do not know how to
properly exercise them, but yes, they are vital in fighting. Manhoef's kick is devastating too, and I think he would have won the fight.
What did you think of Jay Paul friend?
True true MG, Anderson Silva is a master of this too, both defending strikes and being conservative, striking only at an opening. Defense is just a
big a part as offense for sure.
I agree for the most part man, and I am curious how the odds will play out on the Dos Santos Overeem fight. I do not know how Overeems chin is, but I
think that will make a difference, because Santos will definitely get some hits in. But he may be overpowered by Overeem too. Although, I thought
Cain would do the same.
Jones will maintain his title me thinks, but at the same time, Rashad has the ability to upset Jones too. He is explosive and has that awesome
athleticism that makes him formidable in any fight. Plus he knows Jones's strategy and abilities, for the most part.

Check check those kicks is right. Many people underestimate the low leg kick, but it will f u up, and if you get hit flushed on the inside thigh it
will cramp you up, as well as hurt, slowing your movements a lot. You don't feel all that during the fight but the day after when the rush and
adrenaline wears off, oh you will be limping for days.
On Jay Paul, he has moxy and has pretty good hands, but like hawkiye said I dont think he can handle the better graplers out there, if he gets his
ground game up then he should be pretty good. I cant really say much since I only heard or seen your vid you linked, one thing though the dude is a
character.
And the fight world is chock full of interesting people...The more the merrier I say, as the sport grows hopefully more athletes will come into it.
It will make for more interesting fights, better shows, better pay for the fighters, and the most important thing. There wont be a shortage of people
to beat up any time soon.
Yes, the more the merrier for sure. I think Jay will do well. He is young and hungry and has the desire and discipline to thrive, imo. I think he
will soak up the ground training and become a formidable fighter. He has a ways to go, but I think he is doing the right things for preparation, and
has the right attitude. Plus he is swamp tough, and may be training with gators as part of his ground game development! Watch out for his gator
roll choke!

I dont know about that I think Dos Santos has a very good chance at taking Overeem.
And bones, I can see him losing also, machida tried the wrong style on him, and to tell the truth with bones length and skills machida and his evasive
style play into bones game not the other way around like most of machidas opponents.
I still think shogun can take him, and not only that but I think he can keep the belt for a long while to. I dont know what is going on in shogun's
head, but the first fight was pathetic, not only did he not use one of his strengths his leg kicks on bones who has spindly legs.
But he fought sloppy, really sloppy, worse then when he lost to griffin when he came to the UFC and the only reason he lost in that griffin fight was
that his acl's were blown and he was way out of shape and practice, I think he had not trained in the years before pride fell, and he signed to the
UFC. No really if you watch the fight again, every-time he went to take Forrest down as soon as he got to a certain level his knees just gave out and
he kind of just stumbled and fell and tried to tangle forest as he knew he was going to end up on the ground.
Rashad is at a disadvantage, in both size and skill, but he can win no doubt. Plus I think there teammates like spec said, and by now he should know
Bones and his style and quirks which will play in his favor if he has the right game-plan and execution.
Bones is good but I don't think he will have such a easy time as everyone seems to think. And neither will overeem I dont see them walking through
the competition. But in mma who knows, we will see.
Hey if he has wrestled gators before in the swamp, maybe one day we can see him fighting Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza, as his nick name is the gator. A
pretty good jiu jitsu fighter as I am sure you know. Maybe in a few years from now he might stand a chance against that gator, as it is now I think
Jacare would tie him into knots on the ground. The more fighters the merrier however.
Yeah the only way Jones is losing is to a lucky shot, a lay and pray, or if Anderson Silva decides he wants to find out if he's actually as good as
he thinks he is.
I'd still give the edge to Jones vs Silva too..
I think Henderson could lose his belt within the year though. LW is a stacked division and Bendo isn't on the same caliber as Silva, Jones, GSP, or
Aldo.
I don't know enough about the BW division, but I don't think Faber has a chance vs Cruz either.
What a surprise huh? Oh well, you play you pay. So who would we like to see replace him for ufc 146? I would like to see a Cain rematch, or Bigfoot
Silva's ufc debut now that he is in.
Carwin is still healing from surgery, and the other heavy weights are already scheduled to fight.
Oh Overeem, just how big do you need to get man?!?!
Haha! Did you hear what Rogan said about the Reem? "He looks like someone at Marvel comics drew someone who is genetically engineered to f*** your
Girlfriend."
Who knew it wasn't genetic engineering, but super soldier serum? :
