You do not recognize the burden of proof. If you claim a god exists it's up to you to provide the evidence in favor of your claim.

Well, if he exists, he left no evidence/trace of himself that would make it possible to prove his/her/its existence. Furthermore, it would mean that god is highly schizophrenic because he keeps on contradicting himself in the very book that is supposed to be the word of god, and he also acts like an evil dictator sanctioning genocide.

In short, even if he exists, given what's in the bible, I'd probably be joining the rebellion

"why" does God not exist ?

would be more along the lines of what I am looking for in this particular "why"

I do not claim that god does not exist.
Other people claim that god does exist and I don't believe it.

yes quite logical... this is the stuff degrees and a thesis is made of...

in my opinion of course.

This is the stuff that basic logic is made of. I don't believe claims of gods for the same reason you don't believe claims of goblins and leprechauns. Or do you?

actually "no" I do not... since we the majority of theists on this planet "believe" a God exists, the burden of proof lay on the naysayers to prove that all theistic Gods, or (God) does in fact not exist, not just Monotheism's God either.

it is an active claim correct?

That is a logical fallacy called the appeal to popularity. At one time most people thought the earth was flat. Their claims were not correct simply because the majority believed it. If you claim a god of some kind exists, you have to support your claim with positive evidence, not assume it's true until you're proven wrong.

It doesn't matter who's the majority, if you're making a claim, you have to back it up with evidence and facts...something believers fail at doing as they have no scientific evidence.

Otherwise everyone could just walk around pretending pink unicorns are real just because no one can prove them there's not a tiny chance they exist. It's called BLIND BELIEF for a good reason

no God is not a goblin, leprechaun, pink unicorn, flying spaghetti or other mythical creature...

I didn't imply that any god was any such thing.
I was talking about belief in things unproven to exist.

Well, the evidence for all of that, including the various gods worldwide, is about the same...none existing. Yet people continue to believe in unknowns without even requiring proof...at least children get suspicious when it comes to Santa, some adults continue to believe in fairy tales even though there's ZERO scientific proof to back up their belief.

in all actuallity... "yes" it does.

majority rules !

the majority all agree the sky is blue and an apple is not an orange.

It's likely that the same reasons you disbelieve in aliens are the same reasons I disbelieve in god(s). Since you're on about majority, if tomorrow we discovered that 90% of all people believe aliens existed, would it make them right? Would it become your duty to prove them all wrong?

Yes, and in the past the majority believed the earth to be flat. Which is why in the modern world, we use scientific method, which is OBJECTIVE rather than subjective, in assessing reality. It's the most accurate way for us to assess things as subjectivity is taken out of the equation.

That is, unless you follow one of the religions like a blind sheep

let me state why I disbelieve in aliens and not in life elsewhere in the universe...

Aliens are... little green men, or grey, better yet mythical creatures like flying unicorns which are said to actually walk among us, and also said to do sinister things like abduct humans and perform experiments on them. So by this reasoning aliens are "here" and I do not believe that.

Life elsewhere in the universe (I do believe in)... because this is actually based on a quite logical reasoning , as Carl Sagan would put it... ("we" are proof that life exists in the universe) and this can be run through a super-computer of sorts (the human brain) to b determined as logical.

I only believe that by the time we discover life out there, then there will no longer be the need to blindly believe in Aliens walking amongst us.

Thanks so much for opening yourself up like this. For some it's not easy.

I'm just curious as to why you are an Atheist rather than an Agnostic?

Thanks for an answer, sorry if this had been asked before...I didn't read the entire thread.

Monotheism's God is so far "out there" and so incomprehensible even to the most worthy...

Monotheism's God stands "outside" the universe, which is it's creation...

Monotheism's God holds all of our known universe in the palm of the hand, just as we attempt to view microscopic black-holes with the LHC.

black-holes happen to be just one tiny aspect of our known universe...

if that's what they really are ?

Everything you posted here is a BELIEF...and NOT fact. I hope you see this

Also, what makes you think monotheistic religions are any more believable than polytheist religions??

I can see Atheism's "facts" are only a belief, and a belief held by a minority...

majority rule establishes "fact"

I am both agnostic and atheist.

Theism/atheism is about what you believe.
Gnosticism/agnosticism is about what you know.

I don't know if there are gods or not. But I don't believe that there are given the lack of evidence.
