Too funny. I have had many a Mormon in for some drinks and a cool place to sit. I have made some decent friends that way. Like you, I let them know up front that they have an uphill battle to say the least and chances of success are slim to none. I always enjoyed chatting with them though. They did not always have the answers but when they did not, they admitted it to me. I do enjoy a spirited discussion about religion with people willing to do so on a realistic level. Threads like this and posters like Randy are pretty entertaining in a whole other way though.

I suppose this is the question post you would like an answer on? I can only vouch for what I know I've heard and seen and the scriptures are very clear and do not deny anyone else at all hearing, that is how Paul first believed and have only heard one other guy say such a thing and vaguely at that on another site years ago, but this is not an absolute of salvation, meaning having to hear His voice audibly, how many does the scripture say believed by Pauls testimony and so on and so forth, these answer best on murder-

when you see the naked, to clothe him,

So yes then, if God told you to kill somebody, you would?

Just outright, yes or no. Please, it's a real simple question.

You do not know the half of it.

In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways,

So you are a prophet then?

2but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.

I was not at the meeting about who is heir to what but I am not sure if you know this but Jesus has not even been a rumor in 2000 years so "these last days" is stretching, dontcha think?

3The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.-Heb1

But God will smash the heads of his enemies, crushing the skulls of those who love their guilty ways. The Lord says, "I will bring my enemies down from Bashan; I will bring them up from the depths of the sea. You, my people, will wash your feet in their blood, and even your dogs will get their share!
-Psalms 68:21-23

the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.-Heb8.6

If even then you remain hostile toward me and refuse to obey, I will inflict you with seven more disasters for your sins. I will release wild animals that will kill your children and destroy your cattle, so your numbers will dwindle and your roads will be deserted.
- Leviticus 26:21-22

And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.-2Pet1.19

For I will send into her pestilence, and blood into her streets ... and they shall know that I am the LORD.

Edit to add: Really hit both "and" lines as you read in it in your head...or next to your head as the case may be.

EXACTLY WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!!!!!

He did not ask what you would do to defend your family. He simply asked if you would kill JUST BECAUSE YOU HEARD JESUS TELL YOU TO.

You just had to twist that completely out of context instead of answering.

I'll answer when you answer. We aren't talking about defense. We are talking about God saying " I COMMAND YOU TO KILL THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES FOR THE SALVATION OF YOUR SOUL AND ALL OF THOSE ON THE EARTH."

Just answer the question, yes or no. Would you kill, NOT in an act of defense, but in an act of first strike, on an unarmed man, on a man who did nothing to violate you personally, if god told you to. If God spoke in your ear like he did at that bar, and told you that the bartender needed to die for his sins, and you needed to stab him in the heart, would you kill him.

No more bible quotes, no more counter-questions, just a Yes or No

WOULD YOU KILL IF GOD TOLD YOU TO?

I'm not entirely sure I believe in God or not, but I am entirely sure that organized religion is all a bunch of crap.

I only read the first 6 or so pages and was surprised that no one brought it up by then, and probably it has already been mentioned so forgive me if so. But you keep bringing up the bible as proof of God.

It takes me all of 30 seconds to prove the bible is not correct. The bible says the earth is about 6,000 years old. Bam...done! Here you go for a source on that: www.apologeticspress.org...

The earth is widely accepted by scientists to be over 4.5 billion years old...little off there huh?

The Chritians kind of messed up on that one...

you may like these maybe not, but it's not as clear cut as you may have thought-

One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone.-Rom14.5

"Each day prepare your bread as you would barley cakes. While all the people are watching, bake it over a fire using dried human dung as fuel and then eat the bread. For this is what the LORD says: Israel will eat defiled bread in the Gentile lands, where I will banish them!" Then I said, "O Sovereign LORD, must I be defiled by using human dung? For I have never been defiled before. From the time I was a child until now I have never eaten any animal that died of sickness or that I found dead. And I have never eaten any of the animals that our laws forbid." "All right," the LORD said. "You may bake your bread with cow dung instead of human dung." "

By far more of a AIC fan but still not so sure about the new singer. The songs do not have the same esoteric dark tones they once did and no matter how much Cantrell helps out, it just isn't Lane.

In 1670, Blaise Pascal wrote the Pensees, where he wrote what's known as Pascal's Wager.

Simply put, he says it's better to believe in God, and live a righteous life. That way, if God exists, you will receive salvation. If there is no God, well, no harm no foul, you will be worm meal. If you don't believe and there is a God, you are kind of screwed.

One thing about atheists, they are more annoying about their religion of non-belief that the most evangelical Christians. They scream "Seperate church and state" yet they are doing whatever they can to make their religion of atheism the state religion.

How are you talking about defense? It was not part of the question?

NKBJ, you have been replying to Wolf and myself post for post. In the last page, I have asked you several questions. Wolf has been repeatedly asking one specific question. In all your posts to us, you have failed to answer any.

Here is a question for you. Can you have an honest discussion?

Do not respond with a bible quote that does not relate because you did not understand it and cannot figure out how it should apply. Just answer. I would also like to know how you so blindly follow this voice of a god. I guess you can either start answering questions or just quote the bible to yourself. Seems a little silly to waste all these posts just to ignore people.

So, can you just act like a normal person and answer a question posed to you, since you are responding anyway?

I remember learning about that. This used to be one of the main reasons why the belief in a God seemed so attractive to me. Better to be wrong and suffer no harm than be wrong and suffer badly for your decisions. These days I am not so confident this is enough justification to believe in a God. Essentially it relies on my fear as the main motivation for belief.

Here is a basic summary from the Wikipedia page: Pascal's Wager

Pascal's Wager (or Pascal's Gambit) is a suggestion posed by the French philosopher Blaise Pascal that even though the existence of God cannot be determined through reason, a person should wager as though God exists, because living life accordingly has everything to gain, and nothing to lose. It was set out in note 233 of his Pensées, a posthumously published collection of notes made by Pascal in his last years as he worked on a treatise on Christian apologetics.

Historically, Pascal's Wager was groundbreaking as it had charted new territory in probability theory, was one of the first attempts to make use of the concept of infinity, marked the first formal use of decision theory, and anticipated the future philosophies of pragmatism and voluntarism.[1]

I do not agree that Atheism is a religion. There are not enough characteristics to fit the definition of belonging to a religion. The only belief they share in common is that there is no separate deity entity that rules over all life.
