I work at a seafood restaurant in San Diego. We recently had a mandatory meeting, which was essentially a "pep talk". As a group we were asked to go around the room, each individual naming "good things that have come from the oil spill!" Managment's insensitivity was infuriating!

For the most part, my coworkers are afraid to talk about the spill. Others are too sick hearted to talk about it. Customers are in denial.

What really gets my goat is a utube video I saw on Project Camelot, featuring Ralph Ring. This elderly man was a super genius who worked with Nichole Tesla to develope free electrical energy. They were arrested by the FBI for treason, the charge: tryig to undermine the monatary system of America!

We are just slaves to the oil companies and have no way to protest it! While news commentators blame us for our complicity to oil addiction the gevernment forces us, like drup pushers, further into the black inky abyss!

what do you mean 'no way to protest it'? You should stop participating in the system, but that would mean giving up all the conveniences the corrupt system delivers.

How can I drop out, I own a home? I have family to support. I have no support system, and I'm not about to go live live in a commune. I like civilization.

We have the ability to live with clean energy and feed the world without declaring war on nature, but our government has made that a crime!

A couple of innovative things make sense, and a computer is one of them. My notebook computer places a TV, DVD player, the post office, the phone, a file cabinet, a video game machine, a tape recorder, a type writer, an accountant, and dozens of other things.

How about everyone else get of stupid things like their hair driers and curling irons, ha. That would be funny to see. I've known people that have had a complete meltdown temper tantrum when they discovered that their hair drier or curling iron stopped working one morning. Talk about vanity and insanity.

Walk around your home, count the things that are made from plastic or use energy that nobody has any real need for and get rid of them. That would go a long ways for that 20% of the worlds population that uses 80% of the worlds limited natural resources to show that they really do care.

Gawd, I see people that jump into their car to drive two blocks to pick up a case of beer and a pack of smokes for crying out loud. That's just totally insane, totally. And instead of watering your grass yards to make them look oh so pretty, turn it into a garden and maybe we can help to solve world hunger.

There are so many things everyone can DO to SHOW that they actually care about our world and the future thereof, yet when I look around, I swear, it appears nobody gives a hoot. Greed, vanity, and self-serving gratification has taken over the world. Gawd, there's even that crowd that keeps ragging on the wealthy to SPREAD their wealth around so that they too can become excess loving monkeys.

The world is sick. Sick sick sick. I'm going to go for a walk now .. and punch the next person I see with an iPod, just to show how much I care.

Why should most people care about the Gulf Coast when most people didn't care if I had health insurance or not? Even now a little under half of Americans care if I have health insurance.

So tell me why I should care about them if they don't care about me?

Boycotting BP is irrelevant. Your going to end up hurting small business owners, and oil companies do trade oil like power companies swap power based on need. You don't know whose oil your really getting. So boycotting BP is useless.

Instead of boycotting, start reducing your need for oil in general, so they need to drill less.

As for the apathy, with in your face violence, sex in the news 24/7. Andpeople letting their kids watch violent tv when they are young, people are getting desensitized.

And it is human nature to only worry about what is going on in your neighborhood. it is not a weakness, it is by design. So if you can't see it, its not a problem. hard to be worrried about the gulf if your in Indiana.

You are not alone my friend. There are many of us just like you, but we are few and far between. The lack of empathy or concern is a common feeling today among those that really don't care about anyone or anything unless it affects them. We refer to them as "robots". I won't go into why I think this is the case as that is another thread topic on it's own. Lack of conscience, lack of faith, anti-social personalities, etc., etc. Keep trying to open peoples eyes and continue to keep yours open.

Some folks are too overloaded, they can't assimilate the amount of poopie hitting the fan at the moment and some just can't wake up.

Problem is, if most of us don't wake up fast enough and demand a radical change from the way things are currently being run, this 3d existence is going to give way to ?.

We are ALL CONNECTED together, like it or not.

And what affects one of us affects all of us.

Many have lost memory that we all started out as one consciousness and took a side journey into individuality 3d reality.

We need to regain our sense of oneness.

Everyone should have access to clean water, a safe place to sleep and good medical care.

Most people are so short sighted they don't see the axe before it falls.

I care, and I am located in the "heartland" central part of America.

So many people now without jobs and health insurance.

Most people don't want to realize this could happen to them if but they simply lost their job.

We ALL need to stand together or hang alone.

People don't realize that when one person is screwed over, the bully is just gearing up to screwing over the rest of us as long as the rest of us remain quiet and keep allowing this.

What affects one of us - eventually affects all of us.

Yes you are right.

And do you realize many people that have tried to bring abundant and free energy to the people have been murdered.

Research that one topic (free energy), real interesting conspiracy.

The people who own the oil and other big corporations, are calling the shots. They make the rules and own the governments (globally).

They are the bullies in the schoolyard.

And while the rest of us look down at our shoes quietly and act like it's business as usual this will continue.

Know your real enemy.

The enemey are the 1% that own 75% of the wealth of the planet.

living here on the west coast i can tell you first hand that nobody gives a # about anything but themselves. occasionally the local newspaper where i live will have an article about somebody who went to high school here giving a helping hand to disasters. usually its just 1 person though.

it really makes me sick when i speak about major issues such as the BP disaster only to have the people im with say things like "i try not to worry about stuff like that. it doesn't affect me anyway." so true, i mean there's plenty more to worry about that's more important right? things like "reality" tv, whos going to win american idol and which tv stars are the best ballroom dancers.

My gut reaction from day one was really bad on this one.

and my deep gut is never wrong.

When the toxic / chemical rains starts to fall - those that are "sleeping" will wake up.

People have been conditioned to be afraid of empathy. People have been conditioned to actually feel PRIDE in being callous to the plights of others as well as blissfully ignorant and indulgent in consumer culture and transient indulgences/consumerism.

People have been conditioned to avoid being a "hippie" or a "pussy" and actually caring about the environment/ecosystems/other species.

My view is, however... you're a coward and a "pussy" if you DON'T care about people and the environment. Because people who care actually STICK THEIR NECKS out to protect the things they love or believe strongly in. A weak person decides to stay away from conflict or deep thought for fear of being judged, or out of laziness and a preference for selfishness/indulgence.

This pseudo-"tough-guy" mentality can be seen even in the CEOs of oil companies. But a truly strong man doesn't avoid his responsibilities to the world while he chases its fruits.

Sorry, but civilization is unsustainable, both ecologically and economically (both are intertwined ultimately as well). We are facing SERIOUS collapses/tipping points, and electric cars, energy-star appliances, and even windfarms very likely won't save us from that. However... I do believe green technology solutions need to be explored and implemented in PLACE of less eco-friendly habits.

What we really need, however, is a radical and fundamental change in how we live and utilize our environment so that it promotes biodiversity, balanced/healthy ecosystems, and light-footprints. With 7 billion people increasingly chasing a voraciously consumptive Western lifestyle, I don't think that'll happen though... tragically.

How do we drop out though? That's a great question... something even the most radical environmentalists are wrestling with.

There are some great ways to do this though. For instance- sustainable houses/Earthships, intentional communities, permaculture, neo-tribalism, re-wilding, participatory economics, and generally living as off-the-grid and eco-friendly as possible. Of course, renewable energy/resources need to play a part in a transition to sustainability. Things like wind-energy, solar, geo-thermal, cold fusion, etc.

The sad state of America which I am privy to from the inside, is a heavy feeling of apathy. The reason that is taking place is everyone is so self obsessed, it is all about the individual, and most people while perhaps feeling some remorse, couldn't actually care less since it does not effect them directly. If the people in this country don't stand up and start asking questions and demanding answers soon, we all may be in for a hellish new way of life under the socialists.
