You are partially right.
But if these individual station owners find out that flying the BP flag and paying BP 8% to do so is much less prosperous than say flying the shell flag and still getting business I think in the end you will affect BP tremendously. By the way AMPM minimarts are a subsidiary of BP
Source just look at the bottom of the page.

For all those who are boycotting BP gas stations, you might want to realize that you are not hurting BP one bit by doing so.

BP the gas station is not the same as BP the company. By boycotting BP the gas station, you are only hurting the small business owner and your own local economy. "BP" the name is franchised. The majority of BP gas stations are privately owned. They are under contract to carry the BP name.

As an example, we can take the name "Penthouse" which most of us know as the adult magazine. There are also "Penthouse Clubs" which are strip clubs located all across the USA. "Penthouse" has nothing to do with the "Penthouse Club". The clubs are privately owned and the owners pay for use of the "Penthouse" name.

If you really want to hurt BP the oil giant, you shut down all their rigs, you boycott all their investments, and you boycott any company that helps to fund BP drilling. Boycotting BP the local gas station is imply foolish and does nothing to BP the Oil Giant.

Hello,

Maybe I'm ignorant and this sounds harsh...

Those who run a business using the BP name are better-off cutting their losses and changing their store names. BP still gets a piece of the pie when it leases it's name out, no?

You're right about boycotting BP at it's source(s). I feel that if any company wants to utilize the name of BP they should also go down with BP.
How about the ARCO arena, that too should be boycotted, IMHO.

Stand one stand all...

You show your own ignorance by insulting Americans and lose all source of credibility. You should gain some maturity and stop acting like a childish fool.

That comment applies to all in this thread that are insulting America/Americans, shame on you.

You have to wonder, just wonder what the breaking point for this country is to literally fight back against this growing tyranny. I'm not calling for violence at all, who the He!! wants that?!!! But there is a point when someone is trying to kill you and you must fight back, literally to survive. I can feel the tension in this country and everyone I talk to is almost in complete agreement regardless of their political/philosophical/religious beliefs that something MUST happen soon. When it does, it's not just the United States, it will be the entire world.

I am in total agreement, let's just hope that it won't be too bloody!!

It is not Americans, it is the government that is in power right now that is truly stupid, as they are going along with BP, probably for monetary reasons...

BTW, COREXIT is truly toxic...nomatter what the EPA is trying to say... The EPA are the same stupid idiots who labeled CO2 as a pollutant...and wanted, and are still trying to do the same with water vapor...

The EPA is nothing more than another government entity trying to find ways to tax to death Americans, meanwhile they truly give not a second thought to what really affects the environment, and they don't care either...

Thanks for posting that Anderson Cooper CNN interview. I think Anderson is doing a great job.

But I still would like to know:

Did this whistle blower ever testify in Washington?
I really want to see/hear the Governments questions to him.

[edit to add]
It would also be just as important to know if he did not, and supremely telling as to why not!

People have the power. They have always had the power, just wont wake up to the fact that they do....
Why not start with, here on ATS, organising a thread were there is as much detail as can possibly be given on all that has been found out about what BHP has and has not been doing, what the Gov has not and has been doing, so, that the picture is more than clearer, then organise for a Petition for people to sign outlining:

a. What WE WANT DONE to clean up this spill,
b. Whom the people WE KNOW as being responsible, and the course of action that needs to be taken with regards to ensuring that the "managers" of this mess never get to be in a position where they can create the same mistakes again, and
c. show them we are serious by giving them the threat of civil action. (enough people get in on this and the costs will be very minor for each person, if we win the costs would be paid for by the Gov and BHP)

Surely that would be a good start to getting something "real" happening with regards to clean up of this bloody *snip* fight!

This is all I could find about Washington... It's mixed in with a bunch of other politics.

www.businessweek.com...

“Allegiance Capital took it on itself to submit a request for a Jones Act waiver” on June 21 and hasn’t received a formal response, McCallister said.

McCallister said in a letter to Allen that he was seeking waivers for 12 skimming boats and a Greek cruise ship that could be used to store equipment and house 800 workers.

Senator Frank Lautenberg, a New Jersey Democrat, said he questioned whether the government should spur competition between foreign and U.S. vessels rather than giving preference to “American vessels standing by.”

“I think that to challenge” Allen’s judgment “leaves us scratching our heads,” Lautenberg said.

The Jones Act was passed on the grounds that preserving a U.S.-flagged fleet would promote domestic and international commerce and provide a merchant marine that can be called into action in wars and emergencies.

fight back when voting ??? jesus, will you wait that long for getting angry about this crazy situation ? man man man, in Europe we already would have demolished some BP stations or some bank agencies ..... really, you are sheep up there in USA, you have weapons all over but you never revolt, we have no weapens but we do not like such situations and get in real revolt throwing stones etc ...

I like that. when they make laws to ban all our guns, I would keel over with laughter if they make a law banning stones...I would say, sure, come and get 'em, I have 5 acres full of those "weapons", big ones, little ones, sharp ones, good round ones (for my handy wrist rocket). he he.

Law for sticks would comes up next----sure, I have about 250 trees on my property, clear them away, I need a safe fire zone.

Kidding aside, yes, there is definately a way to hit back especially when we know right from wrong, and yeah, we can starve them by no longer giving them any more of our money.

Of course someone will say "well, without paying taxes, we dont get new roads, etc". Excuse me, but I dont feel like paying forsomeones jet fuel, $20,000 toilet seats, $200 plates of food at a banquet, and sure as heck dont want to pay for wars/weapons/and tech developement that goes to them first.

BP didn't even send someone to defend against this allegation, hoping that their high and mighty denial will offset any truth this whistle blower is saying.

One more thing I forgot to add....sheep, yes.
A lion can kill a few sheep and seemingly keep them controlled, but someday, that lion is going to be so confident he has everything under control, then before he knows it, he gets stomped into a bloody pulp by the entire herd running over him.
thats what sheep NEED to do, rather than feed the lions whenever they get hungry. We are called useless eaters, when in fact the lion is the eater.

We cant fight back with just a few people or groups that give a darn. We ALL need to fight back for OUR country, OUR homes, OUR kids and future generations and OUR lives. but I regeret people just wont do it.

Well looks like I'm just gonna say it. Seems like most of you are saying that us Americans should just come together and start rioting against a big oiled tyrant machine that has been doing this type of # before i was even born. You sit there and say "we messed up bp stations etc etc". It has no effect.

My government is #ing crazy! You think that any rioting or other # is gonna put a stop to anything. Well its pretty obvious you don't know our government. Don't get me wrong. WE need to do something but thst will never happen bro. Too much # is going on. WE Americans don't riot against our government. Noooo wayyy. But when they say lets go to war. WE GO TO WAR.

Pretty sad huh.

Edit: I was also laughing about the whole voting thing. No disrespect but like most will tell you on ATS voting doesn't matter.

This has been painfully obvious to anyone paying attention from the very first day that Corexit was employed. I am amazed that we need a "Whistleblower" and "Hearing" to draw this conclusion. Americans are truly stupid!

Hahaha...I can't help but agree...you've let this come way too far...You let BP do whatever they want, they push you around, and you all act like little girls...

...you tell them to stop spraying dispersants, but that doesn't alter their actions in the slightest...I can't help but sit here and laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation you've created for yourselves...in fact, I think it's deserved if you guys are so stupid to let them do this...

...but then again, it isn't just a problem you've created for yourself, it's a problem you'll create for the whole world if you don't get your *SNIP* in gear and accept help...this is getting silly now...grow some balls and tell BP how things are going to happen...they can't go on profiting whilst hiding the extent of the spill, when they should be working vigorously to fix it...stop them spraying that *SNIP* in the water, remove them completely from the site, and get a team of trustworthy people who know what they're doing to implement any one of the dozens of plans I've seen which would be more effective than this non-solution BP has going...

Wow, that response, and anyone agreeing with it, is a joke. No wonder why you are embarrassed to be human seeing how you have ridiculous opinions and suggestions like you have so clearly demonstrated above. Not only is it insulting but it's garbage.

First, you imply that this oil disaster is the Americans fault. Wow, what a simpleton excuse for a post. You act like the Americans that should stand up and "fight" are a group of people who want their boss to fire an annoying employee... If ever it was so simple. This is not a kid in pre-school who needs to be a taught a lesson. The fact you call the Americans little girls and that the Americans are letting BP do whatever they want... That is what makes your simpleton mindset so disturbing it warrants a response.

For one thing, You ever think that the situation as this point is bigger than the people of the United States that any sort of resistance exercised by the Americans would be met with a stronger resistance? No, you don't think of that... You just think that raising your rifle in the air and executing a battle cry will make things right or be able to make things right, yet your delusion, in reality stops there. Because like others have said, rioting never works.

You think that the Americans should get in a boat and force BP to leave. Let me guess, you want the Americans to stage a take over? Here's some logic for you, it may be millions of people vs 100 but when that 100 or so has the ability to make the majority of that million silent, you bet your ass that the 100 or so wins. That is not being like "little girls" like you call it, it's called common sense, something you clearly lack.

I love it - EPA bans Corexit and BP ignores it.

Now big Skimmer needs to be approved by EPA... tell me again... why does it matter what they decide this time?

Is it because this skimmer is something useful and we can't have that brought into the crisis?

Sad part is John_Doe, is that these are the types of mindsets leading the government and making the decisions... Aka the know-it alls. They honestly think that our government would back down or take into consideration group of people against them, and not use "force."

I am still shocked that some people are blaming the Americans for not doing something. Reminds me of a time when I was a kid who organized a fight between this bully, a friend of mine, and myself. When it came time for the fight, I found out my friend told the bully about what I was up to and made a deal with the bully to fight with him against me. Needless to say we stopped being friends and almost fought. Point being, even the biggest group of people against the government will turn on the group... Just a matter of when.

Surprising he didn't say the real reason for spill.
That BP secretly wants the US government to close off the Gulf by
building a Containment wall. Then BP will have the worlds largest
containment vessel by pumping all the water out.
