This minuscule amount will be PAID back MANY, MANY, MANY times over once those unemployed become employed via their INCOME TAXES!!!

In time of need, there is NOTHING good about DENYING the unemployed there small amount of assistance.

IT WILL BE PAID BACK MANY TIMES OVER ONCE THE ECONOMY RETURNS TO NORMAL LEVELS.

The extension would HAVE IN FACT HELPED THE ECONOMY.

This was a BAD, BAD move by the HEARTLESS Republicans who are WORRIED only about NOVEMBER!!!!!!!!!

Guy, read my post, I said the Dems also have problems, but one must concede at least they give lip service to humanity, the Republicans WILL STARVE YOU TO DEATH!

Well, you're right about one thing: it's lip service and nothing more!

Do good speeches put food on your table?
Does increasing the defense budget put food on your table?
Does extending benefits help you to get a job?
Does increasing the national deficit create a stable economy?

What, in the last year, has been done to put you back to work?

This is not blame, its REALITY.

Reality is that Democrats want dependent Americans and Republicans want more soldiers. Gee....and what do you know? The number one employer in the last two years has been the government. Imagine, both sides of the aisle using different words yet accomplishing the same thing.

What some of us dont see is that what these politicians do AFFECT OUR LIVES.

Well, of course....hence the whole "we are slaves" realization.

Cheap shots like that reveal that you obvious have no real substance to provide in regards to my posts.

1. Its OUR money

2. It will stimulate the economy

3. It will be PAID back MANY times over.

And the economy is looking slightly better. Republicans ARE WORRIED ABOUT NOVEMBER ELECTIONS.

ugh..

Unemployment insurance is a fund with a finite amount of money put into it. You can't keep drawing money out of it forever.

If after all this time you cannot find gainful employment, there are other programs you now qualify for.

There is no need to continue extending this program. There have already been horrible earmarks stuck into the extensions that have had morally conscious senators n**s in a vice.

All the bailouts and extensions have done is kept the broken economy on life support. It's already dead and anything short of letting it collapse and rebuild would be only be prolonging the pain and hurting the common man.

Edit to add:

Actually it's your previous employers money, and if you've been on it from the start of their extensions you've withdrawn as much or more than he put in for you. I feel your pain. I just wish you'd research and educate yourself as to why things happen like they do and find out why unemployment cannot continue forever.

I did JUST THAT.

Maybe you should do the same.

"Tax cuts for corporations" = Tax incentives for companies that DON'T ship jobs overseas + repealling tax breaks for US companies that ARE shipping jobs overseas.

"tax hikes on US oil companies"...Repealing of government subsidies (money we give them) for ALL oil companies, US and International
Why are we subsidizing the most profitable industry on earth?...beyond the obvious, they have the largest political lobby in DC.

THIS is what the GOP opposed. They are doing the bidding of their employers and I don't mean the American People.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Does anyone actually know where unemployment benefits come from? I was unemployed for over a year, I now sling coffee for far less than I was making in my previous line of work, which is fine by me, I don't mind a little hard work to climb that latter again. We have had people on unemployment for two years now, when do we stop paying for people who do not work with the money people who do work make?

This isn't a state fund we're talking about here. State unemployment funds are broke and they have been for over a year! What congress is doing every 30-90 days is BAILING OUT state unemployment funds with tax payer money coming from people who are working.

At what point does this become redistributive economics and theft?

Get off the emotional high horse and learn some economics people. WE ARE BROKE, not just broke but MASSIVELY IN DEBT! Government can't do it all, and it shouldn't because this is what you get!

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

You are putting the cart before the horse. How can you logically claim that adding more debt will help people get jobs to pay back the debt?

Wouldn't it make more sense to get people jobs so that they can put food on their own table ?

In time of need, there is NOTHING good about DENYING the unemployed there small amount of assistance.

Benefits will be extended once the politicians start removing the "me" out of the bill. Don't you ever ask yourself what tax cuts for corporations have to do with providing people with food stamps?

Extending benefits is occurring more frequently because every time it comes for a vote, the politicians get to add more and more crap into it. It's become their latest hideaway for pork since all the sheeple see is: "This puts food on starving Americans' tables...." and they naively say: "Pass it all -- we need that...." without actually looking at everything that's in there.

IT WILL BE PAID BACK MANY TIMES OVER ONCE THE ECONOMY RETURNS TO NORMAL LEVELS.

Sigh. Without a plan to put people back to work and improve the housing crisis, there can be no long-term economic recovery. Again, you putting the cart before the horse. This is akin to taking out cash advances to pay the minimum balance and saying -- I'll pay it all back once I hit the lottery.... it's a pipe dream.

The extension would HAVE IN FACT HELPED THE ECONOMY.

Again, debt never helps the economy. The extension will feed people which is important, but to say it is beneficial to the economy is ridiculous. Part of our economical instability is because of entitlement programs, not the other way around.

If you're at work then you have no dog in this fight. Chill man. There are good reasons for the extension to be shot down this time.

The earmarks don't keep the jobs from going over seas. If they were really worried about jobs going overseas, they would subsidize the manufacturing sector to compete with china and taiwan. Right now the only thing the government subsidizes is our produce. It's why anything we manufacture over here is so expensive compared to imports.

I always like Jesse Ventura's analogy to our bipartisan political system.

Arthur Delaney [email protected] |

"Unemployment: Congress Has Never Before Dropped Extended Benefits With Jobless Rate So High

Though the jobs crisis shows few signs of abating and the unemployment rate continues to hover near 10 percent, Congress allowed extended unemployment benefits to expire at the beginning of June, causing so far more than 1.2 million long-term unemployed to miss checks.

During normal times, state provide 26 weeks of unemployment benefits for workers laid off through no fault of their own. Federally-funded extended benefits have given the unemployed additional weeks during eight recessions since the 1950s. If Congress fails to reauthorize the current round of extra jobless aid, it will be the first time since then that extended benefits have been allowed to expire when the national unemployment rate is above 7.2 percent.

"This is both unfair to the unemployed, who face a historically difficult situation through no fault of their own, and economically unwise as it threatens the prospect of a strong and sustainable recovery," says a new report from the National Employment Law Project and the Center for American Progress. "The consequences are obviously dire for those Americans out of work, and could be equally devastating for employed Americans who are counting on a sustained economic recovery to keep their jobs and boost their earnings."

The report shows that in previous recessions -- in 1973, for example -- extended benefits have been left in place until unemployment dropped to as low as 5 percent."

As bad as Democratic politicians are, as least they understand fundamental humanity somewhat, and Republicans demonstrate all the time that they are deaf, dumb, and blind, when it comes to basic human decency.

The recent vote on extending unemployment insurance to millions of Americans who will now either starve, go on welfare, or have to go beg, or just die, as all the Senate Republicans voted against the extensions in this 10 percent unemployment recession.

It is going to be a tragedy when the stupid American people AGAIN vote in the Republicans

Funny! Quoting the Huffington Post to bash Republicans? That's like quoting a KKK grand master to bash black people.

Why don't you take a look at the pork that's attached to the bill. Maybe that's why it is being challenged? Could it be that dems are trying to advance their agenda on the back of it? And then you call Republicans out? Give me a break.

By the way, don't give me crap about not knowing about KKK heirarchy if I got a title wrong. I wouldn't know.

On a side note that everyone here might find absurd.

My local news station this morning they reported that the state of South Carolina has given a corporation 9.? million to locate here and will create 400 jobs. Almost 10 million to create 400 low paying factory jobs..

With all due respect....i dont care. I dont have empathy for you really...i dont.

WE ARE BROKE.

Im sorry...but we dont have the freakin money.....no im not sorry. Im not sorry because you wont get it.....never. When is the last time you looked for work?

The majority of people on unemployment has stopped looking for jobs. They are content to live off there unemployment....until it runs out that is.

I know this because my great uncle was unemployed for over a year....he stopped looking for a job after 3 months.

In my opinion, the Republicans sense the economic recovery beginning to to work and they FEAR it will affect the election in November.

When folks ARE employed, they are PAYING into this fund. Its OUR OWN money for US for when we DESPERATELY need it. But Republicans consider those who need their money BACK during hard times are just LAZY WORTHLESS SLACKERS!!!!

This money THAT IS OURS, then goes BACK INTO THE ECONOMY to stimulate it!!!!!

This extension would HAVE ONLY ADDED LESS THAN .0005 % to the debt.

LESS THAN .0005!!!!

Republicans are SCUM folks.

The problem is that the unemployment fund is actually tapped in most states. It will continue to be tapped provided the extensions keep coming. The jobs arent coming and the rest of us who have jobs keep paying the people without them. Instead of worrying about when people are getting their next free check, maybe you should be complaing to Obama about why he hasnt fulfilled his promise to make all these new jobs we kept hearing about during election time. Its easy to point fingers and say this is wrong and that is wrong, but when it comes time for Obama to do something he hasnt yet came taken any responsibility for any of it. To him, even to this day, its all Bush's fault, still, even tho he is killing our own debt far worse then Bush did. After 9/11 you didnt see Bush go and say "Well, this was Clinton's fault cause he didnt choose to go after a known terrorist that has been bombing us for years now." did you? No, he stood up and said that he is going to take care of it. Regardless of how much I think he took care of it incorrectly in many, many, many (I cant put enough manys here), he still stood up and said this is what needs to be done and Ill take the blame since its on my watch.

The jobs are coming in the form of government jobs. Have you read the actual health care bill?? Educational buildings for healthcare, home visits, specialists, councilors, ect. It's a beast and will require millions of new government employees. Not to mention every restaurant in the country will have to replace their menus and drive through boards since they will have to have all the nutritional info beside every item. Same goes with vending machines too.

The budget only matters to Republicans when a democrat is presiding over it.

NEWSFLASH: DEMS AND REPUBLICANS WERE SCAMMED BY WALL STREET PIMPS TO MAKE DEFICIT MUCH WORSE THAT OBAMA INHERITED.

NEWFLASH: THE OP SUPPORTS A JOBS PROGRAM SIMILAR TO WHAT FDR DID. BUT THE WIMP OBAMA WONT DO IT.

NEWSFLASH: THE OP ALSO SUPPORTS BRINGING MANUFACTURING AND IT JOBS [ TWO INDUSTRIES I WORKED IN] BACK TO US.

But how is that gonna happen with a Wall Street Puppet, Obama, in office?

If you haven't worked for two years, and you aren't truly disabled, you are lazy. Start a lawn service. Apply your given skill set to entrepeneurship. Take a series of part time jobs. Take initiative. If you were making 90k, you may have to settle for 50k, but if you're good, you'll rise to the top. If you want to pay people for doing nothing for over two years, use your own money, don't co-opt mine.
