Police Said to Taze Grandmother

www.courthousenews.com

(CN) - Police Tasered an 86-year-old disabled grandma in her bed and stepped on her oxygen hose until she couldn't breathe, after her grandson called 911 seeking medical assistance, the woman and her grandson claim in Oklahoma City Federal Court. Though the grandson said, "Don't Taze my granny!" an El Reno police officer told another cop to "Taser her!" and wrote in his police report that he did so because the old woman "took a more aggressive posture in her bed," according to the complaint.

I know these stories are more than redundant, but occurances like these need to be brought to everyone's attention. This grandmother was tortured by these police. This is sick and twisted in every way. This elderly woman was tazed b/c she took an agressive posture in her bed and the police were fearful of harm! Note that from what I figure from the article, there were more than twelve police officers on the scene!

I really am becoming fearful of the police these days! They are out of control and becoming more sadistic in their measures every day. It won't be long until we read an article about a baby being tazed b/c it wouldn't quit crying during a routine traffic stop.

Man.... that is pretty crazy.

I still don't know why the police even went to the apartment..... wasn't it medical assistance that was needed?

This doesn't surprise me though.... It seems American police (or some anyway) are becoming more and more aggressive towards people and more distanced from ordinary people.

Everyone is a threat.... even old, sick ladies.

Ummm something is fishy here.

We're not getting the whole story.

"as many as ten cops", I doubt it.

I'd like to see this story from some other more "official" sources.

Granny deserved it. Methinks the nighty rode up and the officers got a show they never wanted to see.

It was self preservation people.

Though I agree with you there is something more to this story, why would an 86 year old elderly woman be subjected to this type of abuse? If there were indeed 12 or more officers there, why would they deprive her of oxygen and taze her?

Regardless of the whole story being told, this is criminal acts at the least!

How in the blue hell are you going to justify tasing an old, debilitated woman because she took 'a more aggressive posture in bed"? Are these pigs really such pansies that they feel physically threatened by an 86 year old cripple?

I wouldn't mind busting into their houses and tasing the ever living 5h*7 out of these guys while they're bed-ridden.

There's more to this, a lot more.

I suspect that the true course of events will come out in court, but then it will never get reported and only the trashed image of the police torturing an old lady will remain.

I can easily believe that the police lose control when arresting a suspect and beat him to a pulp, but I have a hard time believing that 10 officers would taser an old lady twice in her own bed and then commit her to a psych ward for 6 days without a good reason.

In the meantime, Godwin's Law applies for all subsequent posts.

For the record...

I never said the cops were right or wrong in this matter.

I never said the "granny" desereved to be tased.

I simply feel we're only getting part of the story, the side of the grandson.

I'd just like to know what really happened.

OK, I found a little bit more info on this! The link is a short article that states the grandmother was wielding a kitchen knife and threatening to kill herself.

As this does add to the story, I still stand that the treatment this woman received was still criminal at the least. Police brutality is rampant and these stories need to be read!

Sounds like the cops were lucky to get out alive.

How could these cops have been sure they wouldn't kill her? A woman in her condition with an Oxygen aid lying in bed. I don't care if there is 'more' to this story, unless the 'more' turns out the aforementioned conditions of the elderly woman aren't true, then I see the 'more' to be irrelevant.

What will they use to back up the cops, she had a gun? That is quite a stretch even for my over-active imagination.

I'm pretty sure I could take a kitchen knife off any frail bed ridden old woman. Ridiculous excuse. Throw a blanket over her and hold it down at either end while one of the apparent hundreds of officers there, takes the knife from her hand.

To add Mudman not having a go or anything, just these stories they really annoy me, get the blood fired up.

Is this a story from Reno 911? Seriously? Did you see that website? Looks almost like The Onion to me.

Granny

"took a more aggressive posture in her bed,"

"LOOK OUT JONES SHE'S GOING TO; "
a) attack you with denture cream & goldbond
b) leap on you like a ninja and stab you
c) whip out an AK-47 and mow us down

The only "aggressive posture" I can imagine on a bed is if you're standing on the bed to gain a higher ground advantage. Even then... at 80 yrs old? If I went into a room with a person this aged who had a weapon, I'd be more concerned about them getting hurt than my own safety lol...

Something still doesn't add up with all this. The police report (according to the article) states the grandmother was tazed b/c she took an aggressive posture in her bed. The El Reno tribune states she was tazed b/c she was wielding a knife. If I were a cop, and I tazed an 86 year old bed ridden grandmother, I would make damn sure to cover my arse and put that she had a knife in the report!

I am now wondering how accurate the article is from the El Reno Tribune. This just isn't adding up!

Unfortunately this is no joke. You can see the actual court case in PDF format at the end of the article.

As a medical person, what I want to know is exactly when in the chain of events her O2 line was impaired. Lack of oxygen can make someone seriously wacky in a very short time. It's quite possible they created the situation all on their own. Delirium is also a major problem in this age group, which something as simple as a urinary tract infection can cause in a matter of hours.

Has there been some change in the way cops are trained? Or is the Tazer just the easiest thing to pull out and they are becoming lazy? As someone mentioned, if she did have a knife, there were many ways to disarm her for a fit LEO that did not involve introducing a potentially life threatening electrical current in an already medically compromised body. BTW, EMT's and paramedics deal w/ weapons and seriously scary situations every day of the week, yet they manage to get the job done w/o shooting and electrifying the people they are sworn to help. If you know one, ask them. I promise you will get some very entertaining stories.....

Definitely seems a little odd....

There are many threads online about it, but only one news story?

I'm sure there may be more to this..... but there is nothing, literally nothing (short of aiming a gun at cops) that this old woman could have done to deserve being tasered.

Nothing.

Not quite the same but remember the old lady who was body-slammed/ judy thrown to the concrete outside a wal-mart?

Again....excessive force.... she could have disarmed her without slamming her.
