Now it is un-Islamic to watch sport or play video games? What the F is going on here? Surely Muslims are allowed to enjoy entertainment of some description? This religion must be the most restrictive in existance. I never thought that I would say this, but we must be careful of the spread of hard-line Islam in the western world. I am not a football fan, but I would fight tooth and nail to protect my right to wath TV or go to the cinema.

Please could I have some feedback from you guys on this? I would also like to invite any Muslim readers on here to give their thoughts too.

Please don't mistake this action as being 'Islamic'. What these hardline extremists do in Somalia is extremely un-Islamic in many ways. Don't tar all Muslims with this dirty brush. There's certainly no passage in the Quaran saying 'though shalt not watch men kicking a ball about a park'. The restrictions these miltant groups enforce are shocking. They are not real Muslims.

IF

we had had a president worth a crap, these SOB's would have been nothing but a bad memory of a couple of choppers down and some lost troopers.

Instead, we have glorified cavemen still causing hell in the neighborhood of Bedrock!

Just remember, Islam is the religion of peace.....OR WE WILL KILL YOU!

Nothing says salvation like a severed head I always say!

Maybe we could compromise with these dirtbags. We could let them kill the people with the vuvuvuvulezas! yeah!

Thank you for that reply Nammu.

I have not read the Quaran, so I am not able to take a contrary position with you. I do, however, respect what you have to say and sincerely hope that is the case.

I am not trying to condem all Muslims. I am only trying to ascertain whether this is super-extreme or if it may be the shape of things to come regarding hardline Islamists.

It’s got nothing to do with Islam and everything to do with control...

Algeria is a Muslim country and they are playing in the world cup!

What do ya mean? They have entertainment, they terrorize the rest of us... while I dont agree with it, I myself would like to fight tooth and nail to GET RID OF tv and eff-king cinima... and sports designed to raise aggression levels and pit man against himself. Most of the sleeping americans think of their football as more "masculine" but they dont fool me, soccor BEGAN as a bunch of guys kicking their enemies heads around as a game... theres other ways to inspire teanwork and a passion for putting your all into everything you do... try building a house or going camping for a month or 2. you will become like brothers just like you can from fighting in a war together or the cleaner version of war, competitive sports. but you will also learn something, like how to think for yourself and solve problems both independantly and as a team (without a coach dictating your every move). But THEY dont want a society of thinking people... see, in the pro sports so popular, theres always a boss, an authority figure... it primes you to be a good worker for your masters. the funniest part of it all is that there is nothing inherently wrong with sports. i played many versions of them with the neighborhood kids growin up. its WHAT PEOPLE HAVE DONE WITH IT. which is what I always have to tell people about religion... its been tampered with along with anything else that would serve their purposes. when they see something that will help us unite, they dont try to stop it once its clear they cant. instead they promote it and accellerate it but change and twist it so that its usefulness to us is negated and often turned against us. its really incredible what can be accomplished with the proper application of leverage and force... i really admire it. i personally can see whats goin on but so many go on living as puppets its sometimes real difficult to feel sorry for them. "I wanna see the ground give way"

Wow. Just because some poor and perspective less Somalians threaten people not to watch the World Cup it must be an islamic cause. Guess they're just jealous, that's all.

LOL - Totally.

TheLoneArcher, you're a pretty good example of those falling in every propaganda or manipulation. That's exactly what they want... turn you against someone.

If you want to know what the followers of the holy Qur'an think about watching and participating in international sports, visit your local mosque and ask an imam if you really care about this matter.

If you wouldn't care you wouldn't open this topic. Now do some research and post something productive here..

"Please don't mistake this action as being 'Islamic'. What these hardline extremists do in Somalia is extremely un-Islamic in many ways."

yeah but this is all we keep hearing from yourselfs, change the record....

but more and more muslims are becoming "hardline", all over the world, maybe your idea of "Muslim" is wrong and theirs is right ?? how do you know ?

if they are not muslims what are they then? and why do they think they are living out allahs/muhammed's views ? Id like to see you tell them they are not muslims, especially osama...

and why dont the muslims who always say "they are not muslims" do anything about these "fakers" that are going around doing atrocities in your gods name ?

i know for sure that if i was part of something I loved so much and someone was tarnishing my name i would be furious and would want to put an end to it

but you dont, you just say to us "they are not muslims" you are just playing is al-tiqya with us

they ARE muslims, they are doing it for allah and they will not stop doing it either, this is islam in its purest form, alomst like living 400 years ago when islam was spread by the sword

stop saying its not your problem, when you clearly know it is....

get off your arse and do something about it, otherwise people will criticise you forever, and stop trying to blame others for your religions intolerance of others.

If you took the time to read my replies, you would have seen that that is exactly what I want to do. I am fully open to other people's views and opinions. My outrage was not at Islam as a whole but at hardline fanatics.
I was hoping to open a constructive discussion regarding the spread of violence against those who do not conform to the views of others. In this, using your post as an example, I have failed.

It's the wild wild west in Somaliland so I really wonder how many people there even have the option of watching TV. Most citizens are on the run for their lives and too busy looking for work to sustain themselves and their families to worry about this edict.

Just some local Somali warlords spouting off.

These militants are known as the group Al-Shabaab, and they're trying to push their gangster like agendas under the shroud of Islam. Non of what they do is in the name of Islam at all, they are a group of thugs who are power hungry and want to cause trouble wherever they can.

Voicing their threat to World Cup enjoyers would just be another inhumane stunt to add to the list of destroying radio stations, forbidding women to leave their homes and killing U.N aid workers for being a 'threat to islam'.

The group consists mainly of youth and is slowly growing in strength in Somalia. The poverty-striken young men who have nothing better to do are being picked up and brainwashed into believing they are doing the right thing.

I think a sufficient military force will be brought in soon enough to squash this small resistance and let the people of that land breathe again.

You are probably right about that. However, to carry out these actions and to say it is the will of God. Then again, the Catholic Church did it during their crusades in the Middle East and South West France. So...........

If that is the case, I think that quite a substantial force will be required and many casualties will result. You are right though. They are terrorising the population under the Islam banner. However, should a foreign force enter the country, how long would it be before "Islamic Fighters" from other Muslim countries flood in to fight a Jihad?

so.... ??

we are not talking about the Catholic Church..... so why bring it up ?

and if it is a military force doing this, and someone steps in to take them out, then people will retaliate in western civilisations with "Jihad" and say people are trying to opress islam

and we will have the whole afghanistan/iraq thing again, people saying forces shoudnt be there, innocents are getting killed, etc etc

just leave them to it, as long as those views dont get out that country (which is impossible as this hardlining is happening outside, all over the world, even some hardline views are aired publicly in western civilsation) then nobody needs to step in.... do they ?

Right, I'm sorry for being a little unobjective.

Still, you're asking for opinions on the internet - the best place to anonymously impersonate anyone, any group, any party.

FermiFlux pretty much told that what applies to any criminals. Especially the young ones are easy to fool. I believe Islam is just being abused.

As I suggested, if you really are interested in this matter do it in the "real life" to make sure you're getting reliable informations.

The "Will Of God" has nothing to do with the World Cup or who watches it. Albeit God is indeed a Laker's fan and was quite disappointed by their loss last night to the Celtics!!

TheLoneArcher,

No, it is not "un-islamic"!

They are just pissed off because Argentina is ranked #7 and they're ranked #173 along with Palestine and the Cayman Islands!!!

BTW, the USA is #14.

Sore losers...LOL

It is a pity that Islam is taking the brunt for this kind of crap. I know the rhetoric: religion of peace, blah, blah, blah...

I don't want to get into that sink hole. Anyway, Somalia???
