Good luck in it!

Just don't get headache by doing it - stretching eyes too much at once can cause that, at least thats my experience. I dunno if too much "brain excercising" can be dangerous, but I wouldn't do it very long at times. Maybe in short sequences. Just sayin', no hard evidence.

Lol, no, the video isnt making it switch, I promise you that, because for some of us it wont switch at all. Your brain is determining which direction you see her spin.

But I do know why you would think that, I didnt believe at first it could go counter clockwise til I saw a "solutions" video that adds some shading to make your brain do the opposite.

Sorry but that 'spinning' woman and other "are you left or right brained?" parlor tricks are not very accurate at all. Reason? Because supposedly statistically most of us are supposed to be left brained, maybe 75% or more, so the results should reflect that. Yet I've seen the spinning woman placed on other sites before with a poll and upwards of 80-90% people registered as having seen her spinning in the way that corresponds to being right brained. That's highly unlikely.

At first she was spinning counter clock wise then after a while I was able to change it to clock wise. It took me a little while.

You bring up a good point, which Stephan Levitt from Freakanomics noticed as well. Unity emissions has suggested, intriguingly, that it may be because the act of watching TV, or computer screens itself predisposes you to see it one way or the other.

Good points though. Critical thinking is always appreciated, and there certainly isnt a "for sure" answer at this point in the thread to why the percentages seem so out of sync with what psychologists predict.

Cool! Gotta try this!

Another thing to consider is that IF it's true that the right brain processes more intuitively (I do believe this as the right-brain has more interconnections between cells) , then perhaps ATS has more intuitives than normal, and therefore, more "right-brained" people. It would make sense seeing as this is a conspiracy site which basically takes an intuitive mindset to entertain.

I'm not saying this left/right brain thing does or doesn't occur absolutely. It's simply interesting to ponder multiple view points.

I don't find this to prove anything.

I don't think that's a valid argument in a relatively closed group like ATS.

There was a thread a while ago, concerning the Myers-Briggs personality test and if and how it related to musical taste. There wasn't much correlation between the types and chosen music, but there seemed to be very high percentages of types that are actually very small percentages in the statistical norm.

Link to the "Music Vs. Myers Briggs Personality Type" thread.

I think we're a pretty unique group, and probably have much in common.
Enough to skew the results of a test like this? I'd think so.

I don't know,I think there may be something to the whole left right hemisphere dominance thing-It makes sense when you look at what hand you write with eye/ear dominance, etc.

Maybe it can also determine other traits of a person, but who knows.
Brains are so complex we have only scratched the surface.
Everyone has a better hand/eye/ear.I think we are designed that way.
Its not yet bunk in my opinion.

Yes, but it seems few people have the same eye/ear/foot/hand side of dominance! I'm left handed, right eyed, left footed, and right eared!

What does that make me, a stupor-genius ??

It only spins left for me, I can't make it change. It obviously left and I don't understand how anyone could see anything else, but I'm right-brained I thought ?

This is absolute bullsh*t and your signature just about sums it up:

If you want to APPEAR wise, dont bother trying to tell the Truth. Tell people what they already believe to be true. If you want to BE wise, say nothing. - - A.E.

Just out of curiosity.. Do you get somekind of kicks by pulling the legs of gullible tinfoilhats..?

It's nothing to do with left/right side of the brain!....just concentrate on the girls standing leg, and you can change the direction at will.......it's a simple optical illusion.

Oh my, another know-it-all. How grand!

Tell me : Where did you devise your powers of absolute judgment?

Fox news?

Absolutes are for dim-wits.

The only constant is change.

Looking at the twirling dancers - when I look at them the first few seconds they go clock wise and then change to counter clock wise until I stop looking - they did this each time I started watching and then stopped.

It appears that you have a heavy duty, likely narrow & rigid bias about folks for whom a spiritual relationship with God is important.

That has been true for me virtually all my life as I began my relationship with Jesus early in my life.

AND I've been creative, intuitive etc. all my life.

I've heard it said that a fanatic is someone who believes something more strongly than 'you' do.

I'm a left handed potter. I do most everything else right handed. I might have been left handed dominate with a different mother. I can do a lot of things comfortably with either hand.

Im sorry you are so hostile to something so innocuous. Did someone pee in your Cheerio's this morning?

If you want to flame me, I can assure you I have TONS more controversial posts on this site that are far more worthy of your ire than this little fun right or left brain thing.

. . .
The higher this number, the more rational you are supposed to be
. . .

.
I think that author is very misleading if not thoroughly wrong.

MORE logical does not necessarily mean MORE RATIONAL in the conventional sense--as in more rational and less irrational.

MORE LOGICAL means one approaches taking information in and processing information in a serial logical step by step fashion vs a holistic, intuitive fasion.

One method is not per se less RATIONAL and more IRRATIONAL than the other.

Intuitive has been shown to involve the largely unconscious collection of a LOT more very subtle data and processing it in a more parallel, multitasking sort of holistic way instead of a computer type serial logic way. That intuitive way is NOT MORE IRRATIONAL per se.

IF one equates NON-linear logic with NON-LOGIC, then one might make a case for such an outrageous assertion. Personally, I'd find THAT irrational.

Sheesh, the biases in this place can be a cold prickly briar patch of outrageous assumptions.

Have you read the book "How we decide?" It talk about the same thing. That although intuitive or "irrational" decision making may not be something we can consciously explain, it does not mean that it is necessarily invalid in its conclusion.

Good points, and good post. If you havent read the book, you might like it.
