it depends what kind of information

if its information on false flag or illegal activities, they should be available to the public

Petition your government for "What you need to Know", they will provide you with information relevant to your inquiry.

What I don't get is how come he just doesn't walk into a crowded internet cafe with a flash drive and a netbook and publish this? Even if the government gets ahold of him, its already out there.

Any ideas why he doesn't just do this?

Because he is brilliant..
and knows exactly what he's doing.
Something like this..
cannot be done in haste.
much as we might want it to, or think it 'should'...
They know what their doing.

Or... he doesn't have the said documents, just like they claimed via their twitter account. From what we've seen, Assange and his team are brilliant men/women, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that this information has been sent, as Manning claims, but it could be in their possession unknowingly, e.g. heavily encrypted files, fragmented files, etc. Who knows how they receive their data and how long it would take to actually decode 260,000 documents. I won't call Assange a liar because Wikileaks did say they don't have the documents, I'm just adding that they may not have them yet.

Maybe the reason he doesn't just release it all is that it may actually contain some sensitive information, that is, something that would interfere with our actions and plans in Iraq and/or Afghanistan. There IS some information that shouldn't be out there for the world to see - for people's safety.

It may also contain some of the more "juicy" stuff that we SHOULD be privy to. Some stuff that being hidden to protect the guilty.

If that's the case, then SOMEONE is going to have to go through it all and make a decision about what is to be released and what is to be kept back. That would be an extremely difficult decision to make for any civilian.

I wouldn't want to be this guy right now, that's for certain! I hope he remains safe. If he is found, he definitely won't be safe.

GREAT story! A movie in the making for sure.

If he is caught most countries will hand him over to the Americans. Including Australia.

Except for France, who even let paedophiles (as long as they're rich enough) hide out in their midst.

we would not be sheep if we were not kept in the dark... we would be empowered to decide our own fate... endangering lives.. how many lives have these suckers killed in the wars, and now with this oil spill etc..toxic material being released, chemtrails, bombing, killing reporters with cameras, lord knows what else. people are killed by the USA every day... but we can't release info which we should have because lives would be endangered. Danger is in the hidden secrets, dirty deals, polluting the air we breath, the water we drink, the food we eat, these so called public servants that my money pays for, are in doing every single day.. the time for secrets is at an end... maybe the secret is there is no more enemy to keep secrets for so they invent one.
I am really tired of all you people still claiming they have the right to act the way the do.....the government that is.... report to the nearest detention center...Mr. Orwell was right.
The government gave up right to secrets when they became corrupt.
just my opinion. So i say release it all and be damned... A corrupt system should fall in disgrace, rather than let continue.

What if it's information regarding a false flag attack, and he's waiting until the day of, or right after the attack to release it?

Lamo is very publicity hungry. He probably gave it to them and others.
Strange enough, he said, he also gave it to wikileaks and one day later he said, he won't give it to them...

Honestly, I'm at the point now that if I hear about something - whether it be through the mainstreamers or the minor players - I feel like it might be manipulative, like it's what I'm supposed to hear.

It could be the oil disaster being negligence or conspiracy (well, they aren't mutually exclusive really, are they?)....

Or, it could be documents to be leaked that are dangerous to nat'l security...

At what point can one be certain that what one is hearing is not meant to elicit a specific response or thought process? As a student of linguistics, I'm cognizant of the deceptive power of language.

George Lakoff (cognitive linguist who has written extensively about metaphorical conceptualization in language as well as framing) noted that Democrats need to learn what Republicans appear to have mastered. I disagree with Lakoff. I think that a big enough step back should show that for the most part, the fact that Republicans control their "message" so well, while Democrats do not, is part and parcel of the control mechanism.

This leads me to believe that the bs that is served up daily, from the trashiest of celebrity scandals to the leaking of major corporo-governmental corruption, is all working tangentially to reach a specific goal.

Quite the dilemma!

So,

A few weeks ago Julian said he was ''Right now we are sitting on history-making stuff''

Then Manning comes out as the guy who leaked the van footage.

Assange cancels a conference because his lawyers told him it wasn't safe to be in america.

Manning gets 'arrested' - He is being held - apparently being questioned about his / any involvement with wikileaks.

Julian says to the effect of "you see now why it isn't safe for me"

The Pentagon and/or State Department says they are not looking for Assange

Wikileaks says it doesn't have 260,000 cables.

Wikileaks hasn't said anything except that if Manning was the guy who leaked it - they are providing legal council.

Nobody knows where Julian is.

It really is like a movie - we're at the anti-climax now, and now we just gotta wait for the final showdown.

Is there anything I missed? This is rough and from memory - I'm thinking about creating a time line.
