There is a lot of big spending in the US and around the world on weapons and other things that might better be moved down the priority list for humanity. We need to make it unecessary to drill in high risk areas by finding another source or sources of energy.

There is coal and there is peat. Maybe we should be spending a lot of money to find ways to burn those fuels cleanly.

If the world is lucky, it will get this leak plugged and move sadly on, but if it isn't lucky we may have to deal with this leak for a long destructive time and could even have more than one leaking underwater oil well to deal with.

The world can't handle one leak like this. Imagine what we would do with two or three of them.

Time to yank some chains in the halls of government and get this course altered, pronto, before everything in the water looks like one of those pelicans.

Great, a nice layer of oil all over the Sargasso Sea. Enjoy your tuna while you can. It's already overfished, now it will be doomed for certain. The worst part about the open Atlantic below the Gulf Stream is that it is so still.

This is what the old ocean-crossers, like the discoverers and pirates called the Doldrums, where the wind doesn't blow and the sun beats down. That oil, through diffusion, will spread out and form a light film that will seriously affect the transfer of oxygen, like a barrier.

Any chemists here who can confirm that outcome? If enough oil were to spread throughout the Atlantic/Gulf/Caribbean system, would it be able to cut off transfer? What about the precipitation cycle???

They are intentionally letting the leak do it's stuff.
It is clear as day and we will soon face the consequences.

BP are doing to the gulf what big business does to the rest of us.

Greed before anything else.

I think the most haunting picture is the one with 2 of the birds, both in a very solemn position, with their heads facing down. That one is so sad.

While everyone is getting super disturbed by these pictures, I wonder what the PTB are thinking! Do they get an emotional high watching others suffer? Do they get an adrenaline kick or is it just a necessary evil to bring america down so she joins the NAU/Amero???

Of course its disgusting but clearly the people that can do something, DO NOT WANT TO DO ANYTHING! Allowing 4 months to cap a well is totally unacceptable and no one within the american government has made that clear to BP! The government should have stepped in after a few weeks(maximum) dropped a nuke and sealed the damm thing shut! BP should get billed not only for the clean-up costs but for going out-of-business liabilities as well. I fear it will take many decades for the gulf of mexico to clear up and that is an unthinkable nightmare not only for america, but also for mexico, the carribean islands that relly on toursim, eventually europe because the gulf stream will bring it there, etc.

Get the # of your ass and do something america and british governments before its too late!!!! People will NEVER forgive YOU if you play this out for any political gains...remember that! The amero-british "governments" are at least 100 times MORE RESPONSIBLE than bp because THEY ALLOWED COMPANIES TO DRILL OFFSHORE WITHOUT CONTIGENCY PLANS and obama was dumb enough to temporary lift the moratorium before coming to his senses and reinstating it!

As for waiting A MONTH AND A HALF to start a criminal investigation(more like an inquiry if you ask me)that is also unnacceptable! I always realised the american government meant nothing to big multi-national firms but THIS SICK JOKE has gone too far and time is running out.....

That video has a large portion of the Atlantic being "covered" in 132 days, with the oil spill starting on April 20th, that means by August 30th, that's what we'll be looking at.

I bet there are a lot of europeans saying "ah the oil spill is too far away from europe to have any impact on us". Little do they realise it will reach europe within a year or so...maximum!

No one is safe guys/gals, it needs to get plugged ASAP! And to all the brits getting angry with america and vice-versa, stop being so narrow minded and put the blame where it belongs. Either we bring down the WTO dictatorship or we will become victims of this utterly sick status-quo.

Power to the people!!!

This may be a little off topic here but ,Does anyone know how long the dispersant they sprayed will keep the oil under water.I really think BP sprayed that type of dispersant to keep oil from getting to the top so noone would see actually how much oil was spilling in the gulf and if that is so how much worse could it be when it hits the Atlantic

You all know OBAMA DID THIS. For his whole career he has been against offshore drilling and in the two days he was for it this happens, Come on. We need to remove this evil from power one way or another.

They TPTB have ruined our ecosystem in a big to starve us out, ruin our economy and make us dependent on Europe and Asia.

Dam them and God have no mercy on them. This means WAR!!!!

The only people who deserve any respect are those who are down there right now with buckets of warm water and bottles of Dawn.

The rest of us are just pathetic interweb heroes.

Don't sound too indignant unless you're either contributing your time, your money, or both.

Yes, and those on the BP's side holding guns and telling people they will be Arrested for Aiding Dying Birds, should be Jailed...

I get angry when people justify one life over another, bird or what ever, I see life in those oil-soaked Eyes....Makes me sad and angry......Dont like being sad, it is worse than being hungry...

See this is the thing I detest about modern human society (save for some tribal groups who reverence nature); We are so narcissistic, that our entire discourse centers around..OUR economy, OUR children, OUR heritage, OUR way of life, OUR nation, OUR wetlands, OUR suffering, OUR lost jobs.

Now I am not minimizing these things, but never ONCE do you hear a leader state that we should protect because of a reverence FOR OTHER LIFE on the planet - and simply for the sake of it unattached to OUR interests. What about the suffering, mass extinctions, etc that we inflict on the follow passengers of this planet? If there were a superior being, it would judge our species as pure parasites and viruses.

For every bird that makes it to shore, 90% sink to the bottom sight unseen. If this dosen't stir a deep visceral anger and grief, we are dead in our very souls.

We are all Gulf victims now..

I'm with you, but if we care, I mean REALLY care about what is happening down there - then that's where we would be, and not sat at our collective keyboards pouring out our anger right before we decide what movie we should watch tonight, all while those animals are dying.

We are all guilty, myself included

What was it that Bainbridge said to Oppenheimer after the first nuclear bomb was detonated? "Now we're all sons of bitches."
