Death toll now at 16, more than 60 injured. Israel still shooting at the boats it seems.

Turkey should send a few subs and destroy any ship/helico shooting at the boats then ask Israel if they want to continue.

I got a really bad feeling when I read that, Israel was training, funding, and arming these guys along the Turkish-Iraqi border and the story vanished as quick as it came several years back. This could get really nasty.

It would be sad to think some ridiculous brotherhood or club or whatever you want to call it holds more sway the the will of 6 Billion people.

Here- wonder about this *finds the ignore button* Sweet dreams. Not.

This all brings up an interesting (hopefully)hypothetical:

Turkey is a member of NATO, and I believe has the 2nd most 'standing troops' in the organization, the U.S. has the most.

The situation escalates to a conflict between Israel and Turkey.

Does the U.S. carry out its treaty obligations, or does the 'special relationship' between the U.S. and Israel trump such actions?

Pretty interesting. I'd think Russia and China are licking their chops awaiting the geopolitical fallout from this one.

Israeli TV claims they attacked the soldiers. I find that hard to believe, since the protesters included European politicians. I cannot see them attacking soldiers.

The poster who pasted the article about the "knives and axes" only gave part of the story.

This is the first part:

According to Israel's private channel 10 television, Israeli marine commandos had opened fire after being attacked with axes and knives by a number of the passengers on board the aid ships, the television said, without giving the source of its information.

Here is the second part:

Israel's army radio said between 10 and 14 people had been killed in clashes which broke out after the passengers allegedly tried to grab weapons off the naval commandos who tried to storm one of the boats.

Of course it's well known that septuagenarian non-violent peace activists, on a humanitarian mission, are well known for attacking young strapping commandos with knives. I mean it's not like the commandos were armed with automatic weapons or anything.

I believe Turkey's standing forces are about a half a million. That's equal to Israel's if the bring on the reserves. But in their society they could mobilize many more within 72 hours. Read an article on that last year. If memory serves it's like another 600,000 troops.

Yep saw that. The Israeli police is on alert. They've sent lots of police in Northern Israel because they fear trouble.

Because Sheikh Raad Salah was the one responsible for the Al-Aqsa mosque...which is VERY IMPORTANT IN ISLAM.

Hopefully in Europe and here in North America, we protest in masses tomorrow.

Even if they did, wouldn't they have the right to do so?

You come to my house with guns if I find any weapon I'll use it.

That ship was in International waters, that ship didn't belong to Israel, that ship had every right to enter Gaza.

In every step of the way, Israel is in the wrong here.

No matter how much they try to twist and turn, they will fail, miserably fail.

I'm hoping this will be spread in every corner of the world so that finally Israel pays for its misdeeds.

It made it here in New Zealand, hopefully its still here when I wake up tomorrow.

It really doesn't matter who turned things ugly first on the ships. The fact is that Israel had no right to be there. None. I wouldn't be to cooperative if a bunch of commandos raided my ship in illegally and pointed a gun at me either.

I wouldn't care if every IDF commando got killed in this raid. They are the terrorists here, and they get what they get when they go above the law. Absolutely despicable...

JERUSALEM (AFP) – At least 10 people were killed as Israeli forces stormed a boat carrying pro-Palestinian activists bound for Gaza, Israeli television and radio stations reported on Monday.

According to Israel's private channel 10 television, Israeli marine commandos had opened fire after being attacked with axes and knives by a number of the passengers on board the aid ships, the television said, without giving the source of its information.

The station did not say whether the dead and injured were passengers or members of the Israeli navy.

Israel's army radio said between 10 and 14 people had been killed in clashes which broke out after the passengers allegedly tried to grab weapons off the naval commandos who tried to storm one of the boats.

It was not clear whether the clashes were taking place on just one of the six boats making up the aid convoy, and the Israeli army had no immediate comment on the incident.
