The US constitution is working pal, like it or not Obama was voted in by the majority of the citizens of the US legally and without contest. Here's what you do if you want to change things. Get into politics. Either run yourself for office, or support someone who you think will do a good job. Become active in the community and get your point across by HELPING people, not spouting off nonsense and paranoia mixed in with threats.

Wrong. You're sourcing a cropped picture of Mount Vernon as your evidence? I'd bet real money that there is an American flag in the vicinity.

Presidential press conferences follow a PROTOCOL that is written down. There are full-time staff members whose job is to make sure protocols are followed. If you think the omission of the US flag was a mistake, you are dead wrong. It was very intentional.

Of course if it gets too much play they'll say it was a goof, which will be a lie.

we have a right to see things differently, and obviously we do.

In the face of adversity, more than ever, you go out of your way to make a positive show of solidarity. You remind the people of where we came from what we have been through and that we too will rise above this. That flag is representative of all of these things to many Americans - it says more with not a word being spoken.

Perhaps He does not see things this way.

I served my country, I lost brothers in arms, and I'm cleaning up this damn spill - I will speak my piece.

It's not the end of the world, really it isn't. Did you even pay attention to the speech or were you So concerned about the missing flag? How about you actually...you know listen to the guy instead of playing "I Spy."

The people who are defending Obama on this thread would probably still defend him if a red flag with a hammer and sickle were behind him at press conferences.

Really? Do you see the point yet? It DOES mean something. And the fact that it is MISSING means something as well, so it IS A BIG DEAL. It is intentional, it is a carefully crafted image that has a purpose that I am not comfortable with.

This whole county and world is run on symbolism. Symbols do matter. You get more from them than you do words. They speak only in symbols and put them right out there because they think us Americans don't have enough sense to know what they are doing. We are wising up. Just hope it isn't to late...I bet it would have mattered if he would have came out there with a red, black and green flag or a flag with a skull and bones on it.....

Not to derail the thread and this is not a troll post - but did anyone think to check with the hotel in question to see if they had a suitable flag and display tool in their possession in order to use it?

The explanation might be simpler than you think. When I worked for the Sheraton in the Meadowlands I don't recall seeing such an item in our concierge box which was where all the flags were held.

Perhaps POTUS has one in the back of the Beast that they will remember to unpack next time he visits?

oh and hold your breath - an Englishman - me was in charge at that time of flying the flags - shock horror - I even taught a few people there the correct handling of flags - including your own - especially one trick of how to raise a flag and unfurl it without the thing touching the floor - something that had been common practice before I was given the job.

I would suggest you take a step back with regard "Flag Protocol" and take a look at the reality of how this piece of cloth is treated in everyday life - including its made in Taiwan label.

Actually I was riveted to the press conference and the whole issue of the flag went completely unnoticed until this morning when the local Houston DJs were speaking about it.

That is a sensible response but even Mayors have representatives who make sure that all the accessories make it to scheduled events. They bring their own. Seals flags etc. Surely this meticulous (every detail matters) President has likewise.
