As for the rest...?
I'm sure somebody out there is looking for a political angle on this disaster. Stay tuned.

The Deepwater Horizon oil spill (also referred to as the BP oil spill, Gulf of Mexico oil spill, and Deepwater BP oil spill) is a massive ongoing oil spill and oil gusher in the Gulf of Mexico that started on April 20, 2010.
The spill followed a blowout that caused an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon offshore drilling rig, which then sank off the coast of Louisiana.
Eleven rig workers are missing and presumed dead; the explosion also injured 17 others.
The oil spill covers a surface area of at least 2,500 square miles (6,500 km2) according to estimates reported on May 3, 2010 by Reuters.
The oil spill, originating from a deepwater oil well 5,000 feet (1,500 m) below sea level, was estimated to be discharging 5–100 thousand barrels (210,000–4,200,000 US gallons; 790,000–16,000,000 litres) of crude oil daily.
This figure is disputed.
The spill is expected to eclipse the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill as the worst US oil disaster in history.
Experts fear that due to factors such as petroleum toxicity and oxygen depletion, it will result in an environmental disaster whether it reaches Gulf coast or not, damaging the Gulf of Mexico fishing industry, tourism industry, and habitat of hundreds of bird species.
Crews are working to block off bays and estuaries, using anchored barriers, floating booms, and sand-filled barricades along shorelines.
BP was principal developer of the Macondo Prospect oil field and leased the drilling rig from Transocean Ltd.
The U.S. Government has named BP as the responsible party in the incident and will hold the company accountable for all cleanup costs resulting from the oil spill.
BP has accepted responsibility for the oil spill and the cleanup costs but indicated that the accident was not their fault as the rig was run by Transocean personnel.
One plan, in progress, is to lower a smaller containment box to funnel the leaking oil, through a pipe system, up to a ship on the surface (see diagram).
Initial attempts to install a larger dome failed, due to the accumulation of clathrate hydrate crystals (methane clathrate).
Other plans include having the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) attach a smaller pipe into the leaking pipe, and also injecting objects known as junk shot into the main leak.

The instant I started hearing about the spill, my conspiracy mind went to one of the oldest and probably one of the biggest conspiracies to date.
Peak oil and the supposed "fossil" fuels.
Think about it. Not just the devastation itself to be considered here. Why would the world keep quiet about this? Would all of the countries you mention, care if this catastrophe destroyed the area involved? No, of course not. They would be using this to demonize the west and anyone else they wanted to demonize.
The only thing that makes sense, using Occum's razor, is that their is NO shortage of oil.
This is the ONE thing that the governments of the world would not want the people of the world to know.
Think about it. What keeps our societies under control? The ever preaching lie that there is a shortage of resources, especially oil.
What if THAT came out? What if the Russian scientists were right all along? I am 95% certain that is why this is being kept quiet.
The government cannot and will not let us know that oil is not scarce. Yes, over the years we have depleted the easy access oil reserves. Of course these reserves have the uncanny ability to refill slowly.
I will not get into the conspiracy on this, there are all kinds of threads here on it.
To me, this is my conclusion. If the governments allows this to be released, everything could come apart. Everything they have used to control their people, will be seen as lies and manipulation.
Energy is not scarce, there is no limited pie, this has been and will always be about the control of the populace.

Quote from : Wikipedia : Halliburton : 2000s
* In 2001 The Wall Street Journal reported that a subsidiary of Halliburton Energy Services called Halliburton Products and Services Ltd. (HPS) opened an office in Tehran.
The company, HPS, operated on the ninth floor of a new north Tehran tower block.
Although HPS was incorporated in the Cayman Islands in 1975 and is "non-American", it shares both the logo and name of Halliburton Energy Services and, according to Dow Jones Newswires offers services from Halliburton units worldwide through its Tehran office.
Such behavior, undertaken while Cheney was CEO of Halliburton, may have violated the Trading with the Enemy Act.
A Halliburton spokesman, responding to inquiries from Dow Jones, said
"This is not breaking any laws.
This is a foreign subsidiary and no US person is involved in this.
No US person is facilitating any transaction.
We are not performing directly in that country."
Later Dave Lesar would book his own flights to the Teheran office through the UK arm of KBR.
No legal action has been taken against the company or its officials.

The Project for the New American Century (PNAC) was an American think tank based in Washington, D.C. that lasted from early 1997 to 2006.
It was co-founded as a non-profit educational organization by neoconservatives William Kristol and Robert Kagan.
The PNAC's stated goal was "to promote American global leadership."
Fundamental to the PNAC were the view that "American leadership is both good for America and good for the world" and support for "a Reaganite policy of military strength and moral clarity."
The PNAC exerted influence on high-level U.S. government officials in the administration of U.S. President George W. Bush and affected the Bush Administration's development of military and foreign policies, especially involving national security and the Iraq War.
