could we end up like this episode of The Outer Limits?

www.youtube.com...

BTW, this is probably one of the best Outer Limits episodes ever.

Great question...star for you.

I have not seen it and do not want to take the time to watch it - can you please give a brief synopsis of "The Deprogrammers"..?

Thanks...

Here is a description of the episode: en.wikipedia.org...

It's definitely worth watching. It's probably the best Outer Limits episode ever made, however I have not seen every episode.

It is not outside the realm of possibility, I suppose.

Do you think that is what would happen?

From the wiki source:

“ At what point does a human being's free will cease to exist? And if we have forfeited our free will... are we still human? ”

As sad as it is, I think the level of Narcissism found in a majority of our societies would prevent any forfeited free will - Alien programming or not.

"Apparently Davis had been a slave to the alien all along and used Evan as a pawn to kill his rival."

This is a more likely scenario than programming...pitting one rival against another without geting your own hands bloody has been in play since day one of civilization - so if Aliens are indeed mettling in our global affairs, I'm sure this is taking place as we speak.

If ETs invaded Earth like they did on say....Independence day - I'd finally have my Zombie Apocalypse type moment, but not with zombies, but with Aliens.

I think it would be fun times personally and its sad to think that it would take some outside entity to get the world to unite as one.

Why do some people think aliens are as ignorant as us that they have violent tendencies? That they lust for conquest.

Humans only have those tendencies mainly because our lack of intelligence. I for one have always thought aliens looked at us as mindless animals. That would explain why aliens havent took the time to make public contact.

It would be like us walking into a zoo, stepping into a tiger cage and trying to make contact. We wouldnt do that because we know tigers are violent low intelligence animals.

Personally, I'd think that a star-faring race would have zero motivation for warfare or slavery.

After all, in our history, warfare has been about one thing...resources. With interstellar travel, resources are a done deal. You could go anywhere to get anything you'd need...with no reason to compete with others...in such a vast Universe.

In addition, you'd likely have the tech to clone any biological needs (like slaves, if so inclined), grow massive amounts of crops on an entire terra-formed planet, etc.

However, with that comes the idea that aliens might see humans (and perhaps even other beings) as ones whose tech is outgrowing their perceived ability to be civil....and it's been my idea that aliens have visited us, observe us, and just keep us confined to our little solar system until they feel we're ready to be part of other space-faring civilizations... Kind of a prime-directive kind of thing....it's the only motivation that makes sense to me.

They don't want to help, or they would have already done so.
They don't want to enslave or destroy, or they would have already done so.
They've visited far too long to assume they haven't learned what they needed to already.

So, I'm left with the idea that they simply are just watching us without interfering, like we watch those meerkats without interfering.

KingX & Gazrok get it. Read their posts.

Please stop believing that aliens are motivated by the same things you are. They aren't anything like you or that crappy Outer Limits episode.

That is why we are genius monkeys stuck on this blue planet in our ego centric economies, doomed to grow older until our bodies quit. The aliens aren't like us at all. Considering that the Universe is 14 billion years old, they've had plenty of time to move to a type 2 or type 3 civilization. We aren't even a type 1.

Very sad but so much sibling rivalry taking place who knows. Guess the govz. got to fly over all the global communities and drop RIFELS AND AMMO. TO EVERYONE AND SEE WHO MAKES IT, SORTA LIKE THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPS... YEA DROP EM EVERYWHERE GLOBALLY OVER AMOUNTS!!!!

VIDEO GAME (VR) TRAINING AT ITS BEST USAGE

If aliens invaded Earth and they made humans thier main staple in their diets, I can say that they would go hungry when they got to
America!

On the serious side, if aliens did invade Earth, what would we do? All these idiotic movies about what we'd do to conquer them are just mere fantasy at best.

Aliens would destroy us at will and we wouldn't be able to do anything about it. Why? Because they got here and we can't get to them!

EDIT: Stupid humans!!

I absolutely agree.

And of course, conversely, we are assuming that aliens are even recognizable; what if they are a space-faring nano-cloud, or colossal planet-ravaging beasts. Or just plain not interested in our welfare at all?

But if we face an alien species who are imperialists/morally cold explorers/bone collectors, how would we fare?

To assume – mainly because of the media – that we have any chance of even beginning to be able to repel an “alien invasion” is not only ridiculous, but hugely arrogant.

I hate to use such an obvious analogy, but how would a defensive stone-age tech tribe fare against the SAS/SEALS/Spetznaz backed up by UAVs and all of the terrible weaponry of the modern world?

That is why we are genius monkeys stuck on this blue planet in our ego centric economies…

What a wonderfully perceptive description!

I love being a genius monkey.

Since we have probably already been visited by ETs (most likely Grays), it seems like they are an elusive species that like to observe from afar, or in some cases possibly abduct. I doubt the ones in Roswell were alive when found.

That being said, I would hope that any ET race that makes itself well known to mankind, would be friendly. However, there is a possibility that the ETs would be violent, and a scenario that is somewhat similar to "The Deprogrammers" episode could possibly happen. Or the ETs might decide they don't need us at all. But hopefully these violent scenarios wouldn't happen.

If aliens don't look like the Xilians and King Ghidorah, I ain't buying it.

I’d settle for the tall girl from Avatar. Always been a sucker for long legs…

How long have we been in Afghanistan?

Are the Afghanis still armed with compound bows and spears? Do they charge American lines fifty abreast on horseback?

Don’t forget that the US and its allies are fighting – for whatever perverted reason – people of absolutely comparable intelligence and tactical capability.

Premise; hand a group of Neanderthals automatic weapons to fight the SAS? How would they fare?

An interesting point...we still see people keep high-tech armies entrenched with homemade weapons, etc.

Basically (much like rebels), we'd attempt to capture comparable gear, and use it against them...(and we'd be pretty ruthless about it...such as capturing a few saucers with some suicidal pilots to deliver ships full of biological viruses to their home world kind of ruthless)....

Not sure if we'd prevail, but we'd damn sure make it as costly as possible, so they'd think twice about messing with any other humans that might be out there in the cosmos...

Sounds similar to that film Battlefield Earth.

But I have no idea how it'll go down.
Infiltration..?
But then thats what the 'Reptiles' are doing/done.
Or is that the Half-breeds?... There's so many ive lost count.

Invashion of the body snatchers?
Or would aliens come in the form of The Blob..?

If it was a proper invashion maybe Independence day or War of the World's would be the best thing to go by.
But we can only guess.
