Considering that JW actually works for BP, those stocks are probably part of the condensation package.
The OP probably feels a desperate need to defend the company now because those stocks were in lieu of salary and now all that work just might be worth nothing.

KJ, no, I do not work for BP or anyone else, sorry to burst your bubble. Most of the BP stock I own I inherited except for $20k I purchased a couple weeks ago.
