I guess?? you're still in a learning environment too, read my posts carefully and maybe ask a tutor what he thinks was going on in the classroom in question. I predict you will go further than h17 or the other autistic guy, in your chosen field.

Bare in mind the teacher in question is a professional and even if h17 has spouted off his racist crap in class he won't have exhibited prejudice in the classroom, that is what staff rooms are for, my gf is a teacher I hear all sorts of weird tales.

My girlfriend teaches people with autism and if this guy passed a word processing course then that is quite an achievement and he should be congratulated.

However, the way you were spoken to about your hard work was unacceptable.
I would make a complaint personally but I don't know if you are one to complain.

maybe the reason your tutor is giving you a hard time is that he thinks there is a lot more in you mabe he thinks you can do something great with your life and is trying to push you towards that and you are right every one deserves priase but singling someone with adisability because they got praise and you didnt is not great but i can see where you are comming from. so just stick in and keep learning get to your full potentul and i am sure you will get praise too

Yes i agree, it is an acheivement, i have a friend who came from Bangladesh, he cant speak English very well, but because he hasnt got a mental disability he is treated like he should be able to do the work, his work was marked and he failed his test, the tutor didnt offer any support, it was along the lines of " It's just rubbish" he was then asked to give an explanation as to why he didnt do it right!
He was clearly distressed and i felt so sorry for him.

But i can guarantee if he had a form of mental disability he would have been given a pat on the back for a good try.

It just so wrong.

WEll actually the mentally handicapped and the mentally ill have very little by way of self advocacy. We take a very bad view of those people so in my book they are discriminated against.

You teacher may have been a bit harsh on you but the same thing was done to me once in school as a kid the teacher then gave me a lecture in standards that the "bright ones should aspire to". It kind of made sense.

Anyway congratulations on the credit. I don't get HTML.

I treat everyone the same, i had a friend once who was scared to say to the man in the wheel chair next to him to move over a bit. Why be scared? Hes human like everyone else!

So i just asked him to move over, and he was fine with it!

Well I enjoyed my life, bein a punk kid doin what I liked, my parents spending on me, travelling the world everything money could buy!

I turned 30, had a high school education, and nothing to show for it!!
Now I am operations sales manager for Coca Cola, I am studying at one of the best Universities in the world, and I am being the best I can be!!! no excuses.......

The oversight is this, your lecturers couldn't really give a cr-p about you on a personal level. All they see in you (and anyone else in the class) is someone to pass the grades which tally's up their average yearly pass scores.
Of course there going to give praise to the underachievers who've overcome something, not because there glorifying them, but because those underachieving kids total up the average passes when the year ends also.

The Lecturers don't need to praise you and the others because they know you don't need it, don't assume there your "best friends" simply because they happen to be teaching you, because there really not.

The young do have a hard time with criticism.
Maybe what you did was crap and all your tutor did was being honest about it.

You did the work and personally thought it was good but your going to be bias to your own work.

Autism is not associated with intellectual delays, (e.g. mental retardation). Meaning that people who have autism are not "retarded".

Your classmate likely has an individualized education plan that is designed to maximize his strengths and help him function in a world that is alien to him. The praise is well earned, especially if he was able to remain on-task without distractions or disruptions.

Your statement, "why should retarded people get praised just because they are mentally handicapped?" is troubling. You seem to be unaware of the myriad of challenges that people with disabilities face on a daily basis.
