Debate: Should We Fear or Welcome Alien Contact?

I for one agree with many of you. We would should welcome them with our hearts. Yes maybe they could be hostile, however if they have the technology to visit us then they would probably have the technology to kill us in a nanosecond. We could at least try to change their minds. I believe they will firstly approach us with curiosity...although they would have carried out research. We should treat them how we would treat others.
There does appear to be something fishy about this whole "fear" aliens and i'm not liking it.

Yep, that's the real question... why is the 'fear the aliens' agenda taking place.

Maybe to coincide with rogue asteroid fears? Are the powers-that-be prepping for some big guns in space perhaps? It's been talked about for a long time that E.T. threats and asteroid threats and even a potential false flag alien attack would be used to gain support for guns in space.

I dont know maibe they are intrestead in the humans, but not that intrestead. I'm thinking if you could go millions of years through space and some could go to different dimensions. Then this planet is not that intresting if the universe is you world. We the human race could be a no more intresting to them then other species like ants or beatles are to the average joe. Or maiby we are a experiment in custom evolution, maiby this planet could be under quarantine just an experiment in life/howlife evolves and other things. Who know how a alien mind thinks, it would be alien we can't even grasp how our neighbors mind thinks we are always suprised that they would think differentially then us. It could be anything. If aliens existed that is.

Aliens would not ravage Earth and the human race for recources... that doesn't even make any sense... there are more recources in a single asteroid.

They may need another life bearing planet to colonize, but really a species with the technology we are talking about would probably not even bother coming to Earth.

Unfortunately your question can be answered only by another question... or two...or three.

1. If you were invited to visit another planet and when you got there and saw nothing but war, borders, hatred, fear and fearmongering, pestelence, disease, spite, and overall bad behavior from the ones you visit, would you try to help them by giving them advice on how to help themselves?

My answer: Yeah sure

2. If you did help by giving them tips on how to behave (etc) and they only began more wars, acted even worse than they had... even through an economic collapse... would you still try to help?

My answer: Yep

3. When you see that there may honestly be no hope for a world that has constantly sat by and watched as it's life giving forests were butchered for profit, entire cities layed in waste because of war, mass graves of war victoms were covered with no remorse, countless war dead and innocent people suffering needlessly for someone elses idea of utopia... along with countless acts of violence seed on a daily bases... would you not even surpass the idea that invasion would be the best remedy to save a beautiful world where obviously the inhabitants didn't really care about it to begin with?

First, there is not more resources in a single asteroid than in earth, as far as we know, but, seeing how we never minded an asteroid or seen the center of the earth, we have no idea what resources actually exist, now do we?

Please don't make things up because this is the type of stuff that people read and take literally. Then I have to spend more time educating them and it slows things down a bit.

Also, why wouldn't "they" bother coming to earth? What technology do they have? How come.....you know what? Never mind.

Yes we should welcome aliens and I'm pretty sure millions of people wouldn't be shocked and run and jump off a cliff like the portrait the gov likes to paint.

I know for a fact they are here...and that some types of aliens are not very
good....u know, abducting people against their will and things of that nature.

I enjoyed the first series of v and i especilly like the new series of v.Everyone around me seems to hate the series v.There are some people who cannot see the forest for the trees and cannot read between the lines.Evil aliens that look good or good aliens that look evil.You can make up your minds as to which one to pick.Thank god the real aliens will be coming soon.I will be one person who will be very happy about that

if they have made it to this planet...thats proof enough that they are WAAAYYYY more advanced than us...im sure theyve been through the gun and missile stages of weaponry where do you think they would be in terms of weaponry compared to us? if they can get here in the first place...they can probly kick our ass.

as for the debate......it just depends on if they are hostile or not. id be cautious at first...a little nervous....untill i find out their intentions...if friendly then sure welcome them...if not then put ur head between ur leags and kiss ur ass goodbye.

as michio kaku puts it we are a baby race and are currently in a deadly stage of our development where we can either destroy ourselves or come out shining.

we have discovered technology and resources and are fighting over them.

The word aliens in itself is a word that i see as been related to a species thats hostile.
Even if the "aliens" were hostile, they would probably have good cause given the facts that we are a greedy, manipulative, hostile species that if we cant get our own way all # hits the fan.
We fight against each other over and over again, not seeing that the ones that orchestrated the wars never ever get their own hands dirty. Instead they send soldiers, men and women. These are peoples brothers and sisters,sons and daughters. But the one thing that sticks is those who started it never get involved physically.
The Iraq invasion......Tony Blair and Bush were they on the front lines? NO!!!
Sadam?....No!....Bin Laden?....No!
Those in power if they have a problem, it should be "them" that sort it out.
Which brings me back,
If, and its if we have been visited by ET`s, then they will know what we are exactly capable of......Right?
So, the only way i see any ET, alien, EBE etc etc being hostile is because we are a species hell bent on chaos, death, control, manipulation etc etc the lists endless, simply because they dont want us up there. Which in all honesty i wouldnt blame them. Would You?

So thats a non answer, meaning it doesn't say that in any gospel? I understand religion is wholly base on belief and needs no out side quantification, however I am always curious on how people come by their religious beliefs. Whether it be by book, teaching, or personal experience. Religion does hold a very large corner of this conversation. If an Alien space craft were to land tomorrow and offer us aid would we take it? if it was truly aid simply for the sake of kindness, with no other agenda, would you call those starving in impoverished nations sinners for taking it? Or could it possibly be the will of God for us to accept the aid, and garner trust for our neighbors?
Or would fear drive us to war with those people and eventually destroy our race?

I think that to debate a point so deeply unknown , is to invite speculation, which can neither be accurate, nor helpful in the event of actual contact. I think the best we can do is realise that contact may come, and accept it either way.
I dont believe for a moment that we would stand a chance against a species technologicaly advanced enough that they could travel the universe at relatavistic pace, nor do I believe that we should arm ourselves to the teeth , possibly terrifiying or dissuading a non hostile visitor.
I believe that if we are to be wiped out to a man, better by an alien force, than by our own self hate and international warmongering.And on the flip side, I believe that if we are to sucessfuly contact a friendly or even inquisitive group of non hostiles, then we cannot do it from a position of fear or xenophobia.
We need to be just a little bit zen about all this.

Totally agree with you.People can't get along with each other how do you think they react if aliens show up.They will nuke them.We are the"shoot first,ask questions later"species.

But think that:Humans fight with each other.Using most of the knowledge and technology on weapons,that's why we are in 2010 and we haven't travelled further than the moon.
A similar intelligent species in another planet as blood thursty as the humans why should they develop interstellar travel when they kill each other as well?Unless they destroyed their planet which made living impossible,so they had to leave.
I think that the species capable of space travel will be peaceful explorers.I don't think we should fear them.

I have been on some of the craft.You have it wrong,the small ships saucers,are like little prop planes,you know the feeling you get the first time you actually realise how thin the wall of the plane is ,usually just as you reach about 2000 feet of altitude and you cant get back down?Well its exactly the same in the little craft,the sensations are identical.

The trip to the moon was no big deal,in fact it seemed to be FAST---BUT HAPPENING IN SLOW MOTION.

Like driving a car,and definately not an armored tank flying through the air,just technology ,as vulnerable to nature as ours is,just not that vulnerable to us yet,and only because we cant see them.

There is no god as we understand him to be,we are all individual gods.There is no fantasy type of aliens out there that I am aware of,just humans of different races that happen to be new to us at this point in time.

When my father who worked out of town would return home after being gone for several weeks our entire family would go through the same transition period over and over,he would have to re-establish the proper reality in our home,simply because when our balance was upset by his departure we all began to fill that void with our OWN INTERPRETATION OF WHAT HE PROVIDED TO US.But because we all had a different perspective we could never get it just right so we NEEDED HIM TO COME HOME AND STRAIGHTEN US OUT,we were alway happier when our program was restored by him.We needed the balance of the entire family dynamic.

The older I got the more difficult it began to be for me to surrender my interpretation of what my role in the familoy was when dad returned because as I got older I held on to my own perspective harder and harder,he had to fight harder and harder to keep me on the right path,thankfully he understood this and talked with me about it so we could overcome the issue together.

Its a little late to try and hide, we have been pumping out radio and tv signals for around a century now, they ought to be reaching the nearby star systems and if the aliens are monitoring then we have been made.

I firmly, resolutely believe in ET existence.

I firmly, resolutely believe that should contact occur, we should meet it with open minds and the hand of friendship extended.

I also firmly believe that the other hand should be holding the trigger to whatever the most powerful weapon(s) we have at our disposal, so that if the hand of friendship is slapped away, we can in turn blow their entire existence away in turn.

Why is it that everyone assumes that any contact with an ET species will be a benevolent, kind experience? That they will just show up and say "Hey guys here's the secret to life and peace and we'll help you explore the stars"?

People argue that any species advanced enough for space travel will just automatically consider us a non-threat or would be "evolved" enough to not consider destroying us.

There's no basis for that except blind, optimistic hope. It has no basis in reality. Just because a species can travel the stars doesn't mean they do so peacefully.

In fact if they looked at us and saw how violent and conflict-orientated we are, the most logical course of action for their own safety would be to raze the planet. Or, as I suspect, if life-sustaining worlds are indeed as rare as they seem to be, they would just cleanse it of us to take it for themselves.

There's absolutely no, zero, 0% guarantee that they will be wholly peaceful. They could show up spouting how they want us to join them and be part of some glorious "Federation" and when we question certain, or any, aspects of it, decide to drop the polite act and force us to do it anyways.

I really do believe that we can have a peaceful encounter. I truly hope that we do, and I truly do hope, like the rest of you, that it will be a great, amazing and transcending experience.

However I'm realistic enough to want to be ready to teach them that IF they come with negative intentions, they'll learn that there's nothing that God, Demons, or ET's can build that Humans can't figure out a way to blow back to the stone age.
