Only thing i'll add to that is, we have the choice.

Choice's reflected on all of those is based on a perspective. What you describe is generic patterns of survival. I believe in this day & age with the intelligence we now posses, we should be able to distinguish the difference. Only problem is, given today's increasing appetite dog eat dog setting, the world is being forced into those headings alot more frequently.

Im hopeful we will make it into space in a star trek type fashion, cause if your purely looking at the past exclusively, then if i were aliens, i'd be taking pot shots at our advancements.

While its true we do have a choice...what usually stimulates that choice that we make? do you do everything logically..what i mean to say is...do you do everything by logic instead of EMOTIONS.

Like i said before humanity has a 'risk/reward' mentality.....meaning if the reward is good enough we will do what ever it takes to get it....even if we know logically it could hurt someone else.

if you combine that with 'herd mentality' you have genocides.Its the US vs them syndrome....you will likely get this when we meet aliens...all humanity uniting because we have a commen enemy:aliens.

It does not matter how intelligent we like to think we are....the universe has one rule:the strong survive.

You don't have any evidence because there isn't any , we haven't found it yet . IMO The human race has been through so much maybe not our generation but in general humans have taken on a lot. If aliens come down and are hostile we might not be ready but some have the will to survive we will always be here until we destruct ourselves. We are our worst enemy. I really want to believe there is something more then just us, that our universe is so voluminous and there is life beyond what we know here on earth. The sad thing is that some humans are really intelligent but humans are so wrapped up in new technology and what is entertaining at the time if we all worked together maybe we could find out what is really out there. I am one of those people who care about the technology that will help us....

We have to find new values, something else than hogging all to ourselves. Maybe we need to connect more, that way we might found out that the person next to us isn't necessarily our enemy. when i mean hippie...i mean those that are blinded by PEACE. the pacifists...those that cant understand that sometimes violence is needed that sometimes people need to suffer for the greater good of all.

The values we have are the values that are natural for us, trying to impose the wet dreams of some hippies and treehuggers wont work, is good to be intelligent but sometimes is a problem when people start having weird ideas and think that to be nice we must reject our nature.

I wont say that we are greed, but we are a territorial species and that gets translated to our homes and possesions, is wrong? no, we are a social and cooperative species too so there is people who share, that work because is what our species is.

Is not so black and white, there are people more balanced, there are people who prefer possesions, there are people who like to share, why everybody must be the same?

If you see, there are peaceful people, there are more violent people, there are people who is just normal, peaceful is everything is fine, violent is they must.

Society to work need all kind of people because everyone have a role in it, do the all peaceful people go off-planet to defend the species or conquest a planet we need? do all the warlike people want to use their times building farms? growing animals? plants?

Try to find new values like those of no money, no possesions, everybody sharing, helping doesnt make sense, try to make everybody behave the same and it doesnt make sense.

We are not violent moronic apes, we are violent intelligent and smart apes

Our behaviour is not exclusive, the most intelligent species on earth are predators like us with one exception, elephants, and everybody act pretty much the same, the difference is that we have tumbs and the dolphins not for example.

If we use all earth as an example of life, not only humans, them the probability will be very high for intelligent predators in all the universe and very low for intelligent intergalactic cows and if they are like cows them they wont come because a lot of us love barbecue.

and what is our 'true nature'? do the chimpanzees not gather in groups and wage 'war' against other groups??

do they not eat the bodies of there dead foes......they are our closest relative....we see so much of our own behavior in them...why do you think we study them so much?

One only has to look at chimps to understand how our nature is...granted they have sex and share partners(not m thang yo).

are you not self-projecting as well?? when you think of the reasons why aliens HAVE to be peaceful...what do come up with?
