May I ask what that has to do with anything? Because all I see is a completely off topic post... what does that thread have to do with this oil disaster at all?

I think he is under the impression some intelligent life from outer space is coming to "save us". Which would also probably mean that he thinks this oil spill is TEOTW.

Does anyone know, the accurate, estimated amount of oil spilling per day into the gulf, in barrels is? CNN claims its about 5,000. Yet I have heard other sources claiming up to and greater than 50,000. So which is it?

I didn't get a chance to read the entire thread, so if someone already posted this idea as a possible solution, then I apologize in advance:
This may sound overly simplistic and may even be ignorant, but why can they just lower a huge flat mass over the hole?
I mean very big, like a football field size(at least) of solid steel or something like that, just use a bunch of huge boats to drag it out there, then get the lat/long from BP and lower it down, if big/wide/heavy enough i would think this would plug it up no?
They would probably have to drag the sunken rig over to the side first tho as I assume the rig is over the hole...

I have always wondered what the purpose of oil is on this planet. What is its natural purpose? I have never found a decent answer to this question. It seems like a meaningless thing that we have decided to make useful for gasoline, but it doesn't make sense. There are so many other, better, re-newable ways to produce energy. Oil just became the main thing because it was the best thing to make money. So does anyone know, what the real purpose of oil is? What happens when all of the oil is gone? Will that affect life on this planet as we know it, or is oil really meaningless? Not only that, but how is oil produced? What produces it? Where does it come from? We find oil fields all around the globe, but why? Everything else in this world, has a purpose, and is essential to our existence, what is oils role?

GULFPORT, Miss. – Scientists say the Gulf oil spill could get into the what's called the Loop Current within a day, eventually carrying oil south along the Florida coast and into the Florida Keys.
Nick Shay, a physical oceanographer at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, said Monday once the oil enters the Loop Current, it likely will end up in the Keys and continue east into the Gulf Stream.
Shay says the oil could affect Florida's beaches, coral reefs, fisheries and ecosystem within a week.
He described the Loop Current as similar to a "conveyor belt," sweeping around the Gulf, through the Keys and right up the East Coast.
Shay says he cannot think of any scenario where the oil doesn't eventually reach the Florida Keys.

Here is my question...If i drive my car on the freeway and im exceeding the speed limit posted and i hit someone and they are injured or their car is wrecked...dont i or my insurance have to pay for it!! So these big cheese companies should be shelling out thousands of relief dollars to contain this or start cleaning up the mess or put some sort of relief efforts in the works ASAP? SOMETHING????
These companies know the gamble they take when drilling, they should be held liable and hit where it hurts! In their greedy pockets! I do hope a solution is found quick.
