Nablator…..

EXIF can conclusively prove a fake, but correct EXIF means nothing, it can be copied easily from another JPEG or restored from the original untouched image.

I agree.

The EXIF app’s I downloaded & used for this thread were Opanda IExif 2.3 & Opanda POWERExif Professional. With these I can…..

- Select the EXIF data fields

- Right click to bring up an advanced menu

- Access an edit function wherein I can edit the fields in the EXIF data file

This is consistent with the information on their website:

THE BEST CHOICE TO EDIT EXIF DATA IN IMAGES

”Opanda PowerExif is a professional tool to edit Exif data in images. As the best assistant to edit & modify images information for photographers, image pickers, PowerExif allows to edit & modify all Exif data freely”

www.opanda.com...

Note: Please use the slider bar (above) to view the EXIF data edit control window

So as you say, we must also be very circumspect about jumping to conclusions based solely on conclusions derived from EXIF data.

A harder test to pass for CGI or Photoshop hoaxers is to set the JPEG compression parameters right, quantization and Huffman tables, sub-sampling, thumbnail, etc. No off-the-shelf software will do that. Then there are advanced image analysis techniques to detect inconsistency from the image data, not from metadata. Colorspace, shadows, noise, interpolation artifacts, double quantization...

I agree.

Fortunately, we have expertise available that can look into these areas.

Also fortunately, the ol’ human brain is still quite good at ringing those initial “CGI” alarm bells!

Greeneyedleo.....

The EXIF data apps I am using are:

- Opanda IExif 2.3

- Opanda POWERExif Professional

www.opanda.com...

Please see my commentary (above) regarding the EXIF data editing capabilities, in response to Nablator.

Whilst the capabilities & ease of use of these app's seems reasonable to me, other more advanced users on ATS might be able to suggest alternative app's.

Kind regards

Thank you for your input on this M...MN.

I'm quite jealous of the time you have to do this investigating.

Sadly I am almost of the opinion that EXIF data as any form of evidence is rendered almost irrelevant.

Here's one I made using a different iPhone app. Better image quality over all and different UFO's.

The App is called CameraUFO by Magno Urbano. I think that you'll get a chuckle out of the first 2 UFO's in the list

There is a chance that sometimes the shutter speed and the ufo would not match for example slow shutter speed and clear ufo. Or the ufo will be illuminated from wrong direction. Missing exif data. Inconsistent colors. No noise present on the ufo and etc.
Or you can edit the image in photoshop and edit the exif data after that but if you analyze how the image is compressed you will be able to see if it was edited or not.

Meh. I don't know. These iPhone apps aren't all that convincing. Though it's hard to say whether or not it's just because I already KNOW it's a fake.

On the other side, I personally never trust a photograph. I do a lot of special effects work and faking a convincing still is almost too easy. A video, on the other hand, is a whole different beast.

If they come up with an iPhone app for THAT, then I guess I'll be in trouble.

It's not that you already know they are fake. You were right the first time, they aren't all that good but what you have to remember is that there are people who want to believe so badly, that they'll buy almost anything you throw at them as has been demonstrated time after time on this very website.

There will be some that despite the fact that the APP has predetermined templates will be fooled by this yes.

Fortunately though, there will be many other members who won't be fooled by this APP.

And that is what makes ATS such a great place to report to!

This ia great thinking - ipod phones and UFOs.

I once met someone that told me he thought ipods were actually reversed alien technology.

But I don't know, for all I know all computers are...especially PC

I like PC over Macs - I just find Macs too annoying.

but that is just me...

The app is just a cover-up, dude!
They take photos of real sightings, cut out the UFO then add it to their template list.
Open up your mind..

Well, to everyone who isn't an uptight UFO fanatic, the most important reason is fun. But anyone (with half a brain) who spends any time at all messing around in the UFO field should find out pretty quick that photos don't mean a whole lot of anything. Never really have.

I can see this fooling the Examiner and certain members of ECETI. Maybe even the ORB Queen herself will resurface with a photo taken during the day finally ?

I expect Jamie Maussan to crop one of these UFO's over a chupacabra as well. Nothing surprises me anymore with modern technology. I agree this could be a campaign to discredit UFO cases with famous UFO's cropped over any where you want. Then again apple has thousands of apps now and people will pay for the silliest crap with these devices.
