A group of Chinese and Turkish evangelical explorers say wooden remains they have discovered on Mount Ararat
in eastern Turkey are the remains of Noah's Ark.

The group claims that carbon dating
proves the relics are 4,800 years old, meaning they date to around the same time the ark was said to be afloat. Mt. Ararat has long been suspected as the final resting place of the craft by evangelicals and literalists hoping to validate biblical stories.

Yeung Wing-Cheung, from the Noah's Ark Ministries International research team that made the discovery, said: "It's not 100 percent that it is Noah's Ark, but we think it is 99.9 percent that this is it."

This is pretty cool. What do you guys think? What would this mean for the skeptics? For the religious right?

99.9% is pretty sure... I thought it was cool.......

Pretty funny they used carbon dating to identify the 'age' of the wooden objects.

I guess that all the religious people that believe this will have to believe all the other evidence that goes with carbon dating, such as the age of dinosaurs, age of the Earth, and evolution.

The Ark was written about being at that location over a hundred years ago, I believe Charles Forte wrote about it in his book that he wrote, I think it's name was "Book of the Damned".

So, it has been rediscovered over and over, at that same site.

Even the US military visited it via helicopters and supposedly took artifacts from the Ark at that location.

Many people have written about it being at that location since Charles Forte wrote about it; and they "ALL" claimed to be the "Discoverers".

Actually even extreme young earth creationists would say that carbon dating is accurate dating back to the flood but not before. Prior to the flood the vapor canopy would have altered the production of carbon 14 from it's current steady state.

I dont know about you, but they have found millions of dino skeletons all sqeezed up along side an mountain ridge, I dont remember where, but, what in your logical mind could do that ? A flood or a tornado ???

Mainstream story: A tornado flew them there.. Yea. I dont buy it..

And remember that ther have been floods before, new clay tablet found in Iraq 2006 by the US Army, talk about a secon flood that came, and I think that was in the days of Noah 6500 years ago..(4500 BC)

You need to see Old World secrets-omega project codes, lots of hidden history there, all true ? I dont know, but it makes sense..

I doubt they calculated that. There could be several possibilities. I am sure they really, really want it to be though.

I thought it was cool.......

Me too.

First, you're confusing "all religious people" with young-earth creationists. They are not the same thing.

And B, you're confusing your Carbon-14 dating (which is only good for biological artifacts less than ~50, 000 years old... like wood) and Radiometric Dating (which is for stuff like fossils, age of the earth, etc.) They are not the same thing.

For what it's worth, there is already a thread on this topic by acrux from earlier this afternoon.

This is on coasttocoastam.com... right now -- and George is claiming

"if this is true then so many other stories of the bible are true as well" -- like the Nephelim and the aliens, etc.

Yeah but then there's the "vapors" that neglects all this.

I like that....99.9% sure.

I like how the picture I saw makes it look like there is hay in it too.

But really...I know I'm a total witch and all...but say it was all 100% true....
Who would want to worship a God that would kill every living thing on the planet? Every man, woman, CHILD, kitten, dog, butterfly and snail?

Well we see in the Bible several times that he doesn't have any problem with killing babies and firstborns.

George Noory makes me mad. "All these stories they taught us when we were little are true" *(or something to that effect...)

I think it's just the story of the ultimate fundamentalist fantasy - Kill everyone that is corrupt and doesn't agree with us.

That's a rather heavy twist on things In my opinion. It seems like these creationists just want it their way but won't listen to evidence that contradicts their beliefs.

But I guess science is that way most of the time too.

i think somewhere in the bible that it gave the exact measurments for the supposed "arc"
and i recall thinking no matter how big that boat was surley it could not hold two of every animal on the planet, and if this story took place in the middle east how did the animals that are only native to australia make it to the boat? or america for that matter, also if they can make it how come unicorns and dragons did not? some food for thought
