Friend, I think those weapons are already up there, and have been up there for some time now. SDI ring a bell? Beam weapons, Rail guns, and who know what other kinds of nasty stuff they have on the ISS. Why do you think all those classified missions were for?

Interview with EBE-2: March 5th, 1983 at Los Alamos National Labs:

"I asked the Colonel who was being interviewed and he told me a guest from another planet! The Colonel left. The other two people set up a table with a microphone and recording equipment, including a camera. About five minutes later, in walks a 4' 9" non human looking creature. It was dressed in a tight fitting cream colored suit. It had no hair and was identified to me as EBE-2.

EBE-2 sat in a chair across the table from two civilians and the AF Colonel. I did not know the identity of the three. LANL-1 came into the room and sat next to me. I listened while the three asked EBE-2 a series of questions pertaining to its home planet. First question was about the temperature, climate and weather. EBE-2 responded in perfect English but sounded like a machine generated voice. Very hard to explain but it was either coming from a device that EBE-2 had in front of him or from something in its body.

EBE-2 explained the weather of its planet which was dry, varying temperature between 65-90 degrees. There was 35 hours of constant sunshine and three hours of darkness. Rainfall occurred only during one of its months each year. The day lasted 38 of our hours. They did not have months but did have years which consisted of approximately 600 of our days. They used a society cycle which I understood to be similar to our months. During this society cycle each Eben worked a certain time and conducted business. There was also a rest cycle which consisted of a regulated period of sleep. I don't recall the exact number of hours or sleep/rest. EBE-2 discussed weather patterns and how they were formed. I don't recall the exact words. However, EBE-2 seemed very intelligent and fully explained each weather pattern in precise detail. He used Earth's equivalents for Meteorology terms.

The interesting part of this interview was that I didn't hear any questions being asked by the three humans sitting across from EBE-2. Either the questions were already given to EBE-2 or the three humans were "thinking the questions" and EBE-2 would respond in English."

In the transcript, Casey begins the briefing. "Mr. President, good morning. As we discussed in February, this briefing contains some very sensational and some very, very classified information. Picking up on an implication within a statement from Casey, Reagan asks, "Are you telling me there are different races or species, as you said, visiting Earth at the same time?"

"Can you tell me how many different species have visited us?" Reagan asks.

The Caretaker states, "At least five."

Reagan: "Are they all friendly?"

Reagan is clear about his position. "I'm the President of the United States. I should know if we are endangered by some threat from outer space. If you have something to say about a threat posed by this one species of aliens, then I want to hear it.

Casey explains. "Mr. President, we have intelligence that would indicate this one species of aliens have abducted people from Earth. They have performed scientific and medical tests on these humans. To the best of our knowledge, no humans have been killed."

"We have captured one of these hostile aliens. This gets into some very, very sensitive areas, Mr. President. I don't think we are prepared to provide you with accurate answers to your questions about the potentially hostile aliens at this time," Casey reportedly says.

Reagan: "OK, but expect this to be given to me as soon as possible. I want to know everything about these hostile creatures so I .... or I mean we should start forming policies on how to deal with them … do we have operational war plans on this?"

Presidential advisor (name redacted): "Yes, Mr. President, we have war plans on all potential threats to our country."

The Caretaker explains further, "We call the hostile aliens simply that, HAV, meaning Hostile Alien Visitors. MJ-12 placed that code on them back in the '50s."

Stephen Hawking says Aliens exist

No, he didn't.

I didn't read the entire thread (just the first 5 pages or so), but has anyone thought that the reason why Hawking said if aliens exist, we must try to avoid contact is because we, the humans, would be the aggressor and cause our own problems?

Think of your average, everyday person.....not someone who's open to the idea of ETs. I live in the bible belt in the USA, and I know that people here will either go crazy or get really defensive. Humans have a rough time when their entire idea of reality is completely turned upside down.

Has anyone read a Stephen Hawking's book, here? He has been saying this for a long time, that article cited in the OP is probably just to hype the documentaries. But if you have read his books you will surely know that 1) he dismisses the probability of aliens already visiting our planet and 2) he considers the most probable scenario as aliens invading earth for its resources.

You are misrepresenting what he said, deliberately I'm sure.

Hawkings is a scientist and his mind is still sound so he left himself some wiggle room.

Mitchell, hero that he is, is just sounding like a loon.

Stephen hawking has also stated that this universe is finely tuned to permit the existence of life on earth.

i always get a kick out of the people that say a advanced civilization, that can travel thousands light years, or inter-dimensionally would be to intelligent to be hostile. you can be intelligent and still be hostile. a perfect example is here on ats, you see people here who seem to be extremely intelligent arguing with one another to the point that if they could get a hold to the other one, that blood would be spilled.
and how they say that they are benevolent, and want to understand us so they can help us advance. truth is they don't know. they just hope.

i see it this way, there are probably both, hostile and friendly beings. and we should be prepared to meet them either way. the world should have a strong defense ready, no matter how inadequate, we should still be tiring to develop weapons that could bring any type vehicle down. thing is we don't know what could be out there. if we can imagine it, so could they, and chances are that they have put said weapons and defenses into real time application. and if they are hostile and we know more advanced than we are they could sit in orbit and just blast away until no human was left alive.

and if they are friendly and benevolent, i think they would understand us wanting to defend our self's. and might even let us know what we need to do in order to do this. who knows they might have a way where we would not have to kill nothing to defend this planet.

Why is it that hawking only talks about a universe of limited recources we must all rape eachother for.

With all teh advancements of technology cant mr hawking see any advancment similar to FIRE that changes evertyhing about how we interact with the enviroment? I dont doubt that being crippled and threatened with death by somehting you cant controll to make you a negitive nelly, but seriously.

Stephen you should really take a second to stop the negitivity and realize that there might be an awesome reality that you might potentialy miss out on because of your genetics....

I have always maintained that the universe is crawling with life.

Life is everywhere and the problem comes with what we perceive to be living. This sort of thing happens when you have a universe of knowledge sitting around you which you can only see in limited fashion, not touch or examine. They really can be quite narrow minded and honestly if anyone truly for a second thought we are the only ones, so are they.

Math and logic can run a marathon and impress but common sense comes before them.

The clue to the universe and its abundance of life can be seen through a microscope or in the waters of the world or on all the lands of this minuscule planet, with what we can see here you can get a pretty close grasp of whats out there in all its diversity

well, lets say they wanted all the resources from a planet. I suppose they could spend trillions on a workforce and a fleet of mining ships and spend god knows how long mining the entire world. But wouldn't it be smarter to use the lfie forms already there to do it for you and just drop by at the end and scoop it all up?

Do you believe we're indigenous to this planet? Do you believe extraterrestrials inhabited this planet and colonized it? Basically what in trying to get at is do you believe there are other humans out there?

Well since we Mapped the entire Human Genome...and traced our beginnings down to a single cell animal....and since we share common recumbant DNA with a host of other life forms here....yes we a product of Evolution here on Earth.

I think it's perfectly rationale to suppose that aliens might need some element on earth for some unknown reason. We can't pretend to know what the reason is. That they might treat us like a colony of ants is also a reasonable supposition. But then, it's also a reasonable supposition that they might not even need a resource on earth. Either way, they may or may not care about us, but they probably wouldn't care about us anymore than we would care about dolphins or bears. That's assuming that being able to travel here across interstellar space also means that they're the equivalent of a human versus a bear or dolphin. But, who knows? Nobody, right now.

Also I don't think the drake equation takes into account the possibility of panspermia. I think that the drake equation only considers life arising on planets. I also do not think it takes into account that life that might be based on silicon or some other non-carbon base element.

Maybe life arises inside comets or asteroids or in the atmospheres of gas giants and then is transported to places like earth where it grows and soon carpets the entire surface?

Another thing to consider is that we're discovering more earth-like planets than we expected.

My personal opinion is that intelligent aliens at OUR level of evolution are relatively rare. The ones that have no attained our level of achievement aren't likely aware of us. The aliens that're significantly ahead of us are probably no more interested in us than we would be in animals. So the fact that we're unaware of them presently is not evidence of their absence at all, in my view.

It may just be a matter of time b4:
1) We find microbial life (levin, the designer of the viking experiment, asserts that it detected life)
2) We discover artifacts on one of hte planets in our solar system of an ancient alien origin
3) We discover signals from another place that indicates alien intelligence
4) The aliens visit us themselves
5) We find nothing for hundreds of years as we expand into neighboring star systems
6) We don't even travel to other stars, we leave this universe altogether
7) We commit global mass suicide
8) Etc.

I'm just having fun. Maybe we should try to make a matrix of possibilities.
