did i miss it or was there no mention of tracking your posts (and replies to your posts) within a thread? this was the only thing i was hoping for with this revamp and if it's not even there, i'm going to roll myself up in a big ball and die. my, my.

Yes, it looks very clean, modern and smooth. I like the new design and definitely the new features. I look forward to the implementation of ATS 2012 ...oops, I mean 2010.

I have a couple quick questions for Skepticoverlord or anyone else that can answer these questions.

Is the new layout lighter on the server workload, and are the new templates lighter on bandwidth?

Will the new design confuse people or will it look similar enough to seem like new features were added over a complete revamp of the site?

This looks so cool, the live updates is such a brilliant idea.

Will threads open at the OP, or at the last place you posted? It can be a bit of a pain having to try and find where you got up to on a long thread.

Also, please don't say we'll have to change our avatars. It's taken me 6 months to get around to sorting out my first one. I spend all day fiddling with graphics and stuff at work, the last thing I want to do when I get home is do more.

Looks amazing but couldent agree more with the poster above, if facebook has the tech to alert you to any activity you have touched then surley a lite version could be introduced.

Thank you for the preview Bill, and to all the staff that put it together.

Much appreciated.

I didn't see anything i didn't like there, i LOVE the real time update, the easy access to my personal history will be very handy, and even the colours are great. I do like my dark version, but a bit more colour to brighten the place up a bit never did anyone any harm.

Although i'm not a big one for awards and all that, i did enjoy being able to nominate members for the Way Above award. We see so many great threads here, but every once in a while a member posts something that needs extra recognition.

Really looking forward to this. I'm usualy one of the ones that say it's a risk trying to fix something that isn't broken, but from looking at the preview, i think it will only improve this great site.

I'm sure there will be a few moans and groans at first as people try to get to grips with it, but that comes with any change.

Once again, thank you.

CX.

Initialy i thought that would be a good idea, but when i think about the size of some of the threads here involving thousands of posts, i'm not sure i could handle that many alerts showing replies to my thread.

Then again, if you had the option of turning the feature off i guess it could be ok.

You must be a Taurus!

I know one or two who are not going to be happy, not because it is not good, but because it is change.

Now I have had a chance to look at the video a couple of times I have these comments:

  • The real time update is great for those with broadband. It is a complete killer for those on dial-up, and there a quite a number of those. There should be an option. Additionally the headlines change so fast there is no time to log some for looking at later. Another reason for the option of switching it off.

  • Way above list. I see this as an encouragement for people to add even more rubbish that they already do just to try and get their name in the top rankings. Expect a swathe of rubbish aiming at stars, flags and top rankings. In my opinion this should be about content and discussion and not turned into a competition.

  • The sorting I like and I think will be helpful

I suppose I am just a Taurus, but my main concern is for bandwidth. This, unless options are provided, is very anti dial-up users and may be bandwidth hungry for those who have limits. (I don't, so that aspect does not worry me personally)

I think it looks brilliant and I think it will encourage even more people to sign up to the site.

It seems a massive improvement.

The only think I dislike the looks of is the hall of fame thing.

There are already enough users on this site with massive egos who abuse their reputation and seem to get loads of flags and stars merely for creating any old thread.

Yet I've seen some great threads, by users who I might have not read much from before, yet they never get any attention.

So I think this hall of fame will just end up with people getting into arguments saying things like "Well you've been here how long? I'm in the hall of fame bla bla bla etc etc" and somehow making themselves feel superior.

Surf music ??

i thought the audio theme was more in line with the soundtrack in the
"KILL BILL" movie.

which of course would fit in with the 'conspiracy' model itself,
'Bill' being the site owner...

are we being given subconscious clues or is an elaborate game being played?

Looking the good! one thing I noticed is the return of the tallys of points, stars, flags and....K?

Wonder what that is?

K to me, looks like a ratio of some sort.

Still not happy about the post count coming back... that's even worse than the current flag contribution bar. The rest of the site is god damn awesome though, so I suppose it compensates.

Looking forward to the real time update, also I like the way there seems to be a windows \file\ tab on the menu page, this will make flicking through different threads alot quicker. I too dont like change in the sites I frequent a lot but this does seem like a good improvement.

Not solely I don't think...

From what I could see in the low-res video they were sorted according to the WATS Index, not by posts, stars or flags. Now, what that Index is and how its calculated is whole new mystery.

Cheers.
