I agree with you here. I had a hard time seeing the children until I got a bit closer to the screen and those tripods look a heck of a lot like weapons if you lean back. Without the background noise and back story this event would have looked fairly normal until that van shows up.

We have to remember that we are not trained to ID weapons like these pilots should be. I dont even know the protocol they have to fallow to make a correct ID. But one thing is clear the judgment they made on the Van that came to help was not according to Friend or Foe identification protocol.

If it hasn't already, this video footage needs to be handed over to the relevant authorities and all those involved in this atrocity should stand trial & be brought to justice. Absolutely disgraceful.

Although i agree with you, the problem becomes "the relevant authorities" ARE "all those involved in this atrocity"

This is exactly why it's not all over the "news and radio" - they (aforementioned sycophants) don't want the average person waking up to what this world really is, who is running it, and why.

I have been in the military and am well verse on the law of armed conflict.

Watching it so far, at around the 5:30 mark, the pilot/gunner mentions all the bodies and that someone is crawling around down there. They then open fire. They willingly shot on a group of people that were incapacitated. That is a direct violation of LoAC. You cannot fire upon targets who are injured and do not pose a threat. The men were not firing on the choppers or engaging them in any way.

This video is the very definition of excessive force.

People need to be brought up on charges.

What a great day to be an American.

War is hell...in every war there sadly have been innocents hurt and killed...the only thing about this video that is missing is the location...there is a question of "where they in an area that was off limits at all?" The military doesnt simply fly around and shoot people with out just cause. This is a tragity. But this video doesnt give us all the facts of the case. It needs to be investagated and indeed the truth must be discovered but we cant just watch this and say the military was acting incorrectly. The clearance was given, the system in place was clearly followed...so why were these men being watched in the first place? My point is that we cant come to an informed conclusion with out all the facts of the case. Video isnt the only piece of important information available Im sure.

I hope everyone learns one thing from today's video; whether you feel it justified or not. I hope everyone realizes that when government refuses to show proof that they have in their possession to the American people and claim a story where there is no fault on their part...we can be assured we are being lied to.

Taking this into account, I see a clear parallel to the cover up of videos of the 9/11 Pentagon attacks. There was video, that they refused to release. We now know the MO of our government. This video proves they will lie about facts while in possession of facts that counter their story. One can only imagine how much we have been lied to about.

Meh I don't get the hype about this. Yah its bad but honestly we've witnessed worse and life goes on. I can certainly understand how the gear could have been mistaken for weapons, especially the guy peering around the corner, looked suspicious. What I find sad is this pathetic attempt to sensationalize it by going to twitter or facebook, etc. Seriously what is that going to accomplish? Nothing, nothing at all other than patting one self on the back for a job well done and getting back to a 9 piece mcnugget and american idol.

War sucks, it is not intended to be pretty or fair. The military won't suffer from this. On a side note, did anyone else find it odd how fast the van shows up and starts to cart of bodies/survivors. Yah I get the humanitarian aspect of that moment but seemed out of place to jump in so quick not understanding the full situation.

I understand how hard it is to be a soldier and bad things happen * * *.

[edit on 5-4-2010 by Subjective Truth]

This is not just some bad thing that "happened"!! It didn't just "happen". These were deliberate acts of homicide. Individuals made a decision to kill other humans. Your euphemistic description is a large part of the problem. Sh*t happens? No, it doesn't! People are intentionally doing these things.

How hard is it to be a soldier inside an armored gunship which has the power to kill and destroy anything its occupants choose and from a safe distance? Yeah, it's tough to be a soldier with their job. Destroy anything on the ground at will. And their command covers up their crimes after the fact.

Their command is no less at fault than the guys who pulled the trigger.

Very disturbing. War videos always are. It's hard to support this but thats why this video is so important because people forget what war looks like. War is so horrible because not only bad guys get killed, the good guys do too and thats why we all try to avoid it.

This video is horrible, but this is what happens when your at war. Everyone sees the troops carrying their guns and driving their tanks. Those aren't just props, they get used and more then enough they get used on the wrong people.

Im not saying the reactions are ok, Im not saying this is ok. But this is the reality of war. My dad has been in a war, he cant talk about it. Only one time Ive heard a story, they would have to shoot children because their parents would put bombs on them and have them run and jump into a caravan.

This is a reminder why war shouldn't be taken lightly ever. The devastation it causes is indescribable and it happens. I'm glad the video got out though, the people who were killed at least are vindicated now.

Well now that the BBC and Fox are covering the story all that leaves in CNN, ABC, NBC, and CBS essentially all the corporate networks.

If you guys made threads wringing your hands about all the people Islamic extremists kill everyday, I might give you the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately most of you seem dead set on proving how evil the US, while selectively ignoring facts.

There is no one selectively ignoring facts here. I love my country and I have served in the armed forces. Forgive me for not trying to see the "good side" to all of this like yourself.

I just can't wrap myself in the flag and applaud this stupidity. Debating on matters of opinion is pointless. You see terrorists that had to be dealt with. I see no terrorists and no point in being there in the first place.

You have to ask yourself why people go to the extremes they do. What are these terrorists fighting for exactly? What are we fighting for exactly?

Very true, I don't know what training, if any, helicopter pilots go through to identify small arms. I have a feeling the answer is not much. At any rate it is rather convenient that defenders of the pilots/gunners actions only focus on certain aspects of the video. I am glad there are people willing to take a closer look and not automatically condemn, but I think there is some irrefutable evidence that these boys messed up big.

I would like to know, is it normal for after insurgents are killed for them to request to take pictures?

If not this stinks to high hell of a CIA sanctioned hit.

I wonder how deep this hole goes.

On the video as a whole, my god... disgusting....uhg. I sat my dad and watched it with him.

My country
my god.

Why.....

For those of you debunking my claims that the YouTube viewers thingy is locked are not correct, they are debunked themselves. It has been quite a few hours since I have checked the page and there is no update, it still says 359.

The CollateralMurder.com site is not down for me. It just takes forever to load, maybe traffic? Not sure.

EDIT: the site opened for me.

Well I do need to say this.
Yes those soldiers were a little heartless but we are all human and all make mistakes.(not trying to justify things)
I will also point out the reality of the life we all live, soldiers included.
Some come **HOME** to this.

From the FOX article:

www.foxnews.com...

The video shows military personnel aboard the Apaches indicating they spot the suspects toting several AK-47s and several RPG's. But WikiLeaks contends that the Reuters photographers were only carrying cameras, which the military mistook for weapons. The helicopters circled multiple times before opening fire. "Keep shooting!," yells a U.S. soldier recorded in the chopper radio traffic. "Oh yeah, look at those dead bastards," responds another. "Nice!" adds a third. A military official confirmed the authenticity of the video to The Associated Press.

The FOX spin, is immediately apparent

"That's what they get for bringing their kids to a battle," says the invader.

That´s it for America.

Something to keep in mind: "America" is not our government. We, as a people, do not often approve of what our government does in the name of our country. Our people, like all people, have good and bad in them.

I would say that at least half of our country is so mired in getting from one day to the next, that they have little idea of the ways that their good name is dragged through the mud. This is not the land of milk and honey....there are people here starving and people here having to work 90 hours a week to support their kids.

All nations control their people through lies and propaganda. The US is just better at it. The political parties are a major way that we are controlled (via "divide and conquer"), but for everyone there is a poison meant to divert attention and assert control (welfare, drugs, whatever).

So, whenever one of you non-Americans says something about America, make sure you do 2 things:

1. smile (to make your intentions clear
).
2. Remember, the US People are as much victims of this lousy government as anyone else. They experiment on us, too. We are treated with inhumane actions, too. We all desparately want change, but we don't know how to get it because we have been lied to so much, no one really knows which direction we are even facing, let alone which direction we should be going.

I would suspect that most of you from other countries are in the same boat.
