How messed up will that be if it takes Russia Today to release this and no one else will talk about it.

The news has hit the BBC.

news.bbc.co.uk...

it took them long enough, I mailed the link to them and Sky news several hours ago.

Have to agree with you on this one. I understand that mistakes will be made when you feel threatened and you only have seconds to react, but their mentality is just kill, kill, kill.

As they were killing all of them he was like "keep shooting keep shooting!"
Then after everyone was dead he said "Uh, we got a bunch of bodies lying around here". F****** sick. Not surprising though. Our military has killed, what is it, 1 million innocent people in Iraq now?

Maybe we shouldn't heavily medicate people making life and death decisions, but its a big windfall for the drug companies.

This is blowing up all over the internet.

The US will have to answer for this one.

And it's ABOUT F'N TIME.

6000 soldiers dead...who knows how many innocents...and TRILLIONS of dollars GONE.

With all due respect Burd...

Where was the contact?

Respond to fire with fire, yes. Respond to an incident, yes.

But where was the contact other than "there appear to be people down there with weapons" because at the start of that video - there was no contact. No one was running. No one was being particularly overt or covert.

And - move it on a little - suppose there was contact intially - after the Apache's finished firing at the first group, there was definitely no contact with the van, and a single injured guy posed no threat to the helicopters whatsoever - so where was the justification for firing on the van?

After a contact, when the area is secure, medical aid to the wounded is to be offered at the earliest available opportunity is it not? - except that the guy crawling along the ground after the initial engagement had a cannon from a gunship trained on him and by god, did those guys want to use it on him - and they did...

Sorry. War is hell - I understand that. I also understand the need for self preservation of the pilots, but they were under no threat whatsoever and they still filled the minivan with bullets.

Thats not war.

Thats cold blood.

The people arguing that it's just war and soldiers doing their job and that the people "seemed" armed etc etc...well then can anyone explain to me why they blew up the ambulance truck trying to treat the wounded/dead guys?
Isn't it against the geneva convention to kill medics/red-cross/ambulance workers? They are just trying to get the wounded/dead off the battlefield AND had kids in the truck, what excuse do you have for the U.S. soldiers who shot up the truck and killed all those innocent people as well? Because to me from the video those medics or whatever they were sure as hell didn't seem armed at all.
Many people claim the guys on the ground had an RPG. Ok fine, but did the medics have an RPG too? Why did they have to die?

since you seem to be knowledgeable about these things, please tell me if it's OK to do what happened to the van. I can go along with the first part just to prove that I am objective. But how does that even register as human? We even had this written into the Geneva convention so aid could be given on the battlefield. We are supposed to set the example.

This will be bad for all the reasons you stated. I want soldiers to be able to come home with honor. But this has to end. This was murder.

I for one am glad there is some debate. I would hope neither side automatically jumps to a conclusion. Unlike the video, situations like this are not black and white. But I suppose I will be labeled a disinfo agent.

you're forgetting the fact that we are watching a compressed youtube video of figures in the distance. The soldiers would have had a much clearer image than that. And even looking at the compressed youtube video I could see they weren't armed. And anyway from the dialogue it is clear they were just itching to open fire and were looking for any excuse to.

Nowhere did I see anything remotely close to looking like an AK47 and if we can see that it was nothing more than a camera, surely they could to. I'm not too sure but isn't also against the rules of war to engage personnel who are simply helping the wounded? Anyway, I'd love to get my hands on these sick cowards. Sorry military guys but it's these idiots who give you all a bad name.

I still do not understand why it even matters if the Iraqis in the video had weapons or not?

Please, someone explain it to me?

The United State's mercenaries are not over there protecting you.

Unless you are a Corporation.

So if it is a useless war to begin with, why even argue over the particulars of it?

Although, it is nice having all of this extra oil.

And heroin.

If this is the case why suppress the video?

*SNIP*

This very thread is why you suppress the video. It's troops coming home from Vietnam and having crap thrown on them while being called "babykillers" all over again. There is a growing minority of "Americans" who will take any incident whatsoever and use it as mad bomber ammo against the troops and against the nation as a whole. Why give them the chance without at least attempting to keep it from them?

*sigh*

That's quite the convenient snip and omission to the original question ... presumably to evade my pointing out the fallacious premise of your reasoning.

The question was:

If this is the case why suppress the video?
Surely if it's as simple and innocuous as what you suggest, or at least as reasonable under the circumstances, it wouldn't have been a problem?
And before you reply I respectfully request that you do no apply the fallacious reasoning "judging by the replies in this thread can you blame them for fighting it's release" for the truth is simply the truth and should always prevail.
(em)

The irony is that whilst answering a question about willful obfuscation you actually engage in the same tactic.

And so it goes ...

And for the record, the answer to my second question was imho equally tenuous.

I guess we'll just have to disagree on this issue.

I had no doubt wikileaks would come through with their promises to deliver... only thing is I don't think a lot of us were ready to view what we thought was going to be something great to push towards the media to help show what is really going on in this world full of wars.

This video is sick, I watched the whole thing (17 minute one) and I found it disgusting how the men in the helis talked. It seemed to me this is more of a video game to them then a war. They shot down people who had no weapons (from what we could see). Their original assessment on the man having an RPG was ridiculous! I'm not even a camera expert, I'm somewhat trained with weapons (not nearly as well as the men shooting in the video) and I COULD EASILY TELL that it was a damn camera! If you don't trust what I'm saying it's right here in the video!

And to add more to my personal assessment of them thinking this is like a video game to them... look at the way they talk. I'm not going to be bothered to re-watch the video right now to quote exactly but this is basically what was said "Ha, he just ran over that body." - "Did he?" "Yeah, ha, I think so."

Yeah real funny, desecrating the bodies of innocent people who had cameras. I mean I know people in hostage situations in the US for example reaching for a camera or something may get shot, and well that's the fault of the person for not thinking about their movements. BUT these people were simply doing nothing wrong, they were gathered to take some photos and had CAMERAS which you could tell. The guys in the heli talk about them having 3 different kinds of weapons, and there were NONE. I truly wish we had video of the troops on the ground checking for weapons and finding none... that would have really put the icing on the cake (even more so).

Very, very sad. Positive vibes sent out to these families and victims - even to those individuals who shot the innocent people, why, because they need the most help out of everyone...

The suicide rate is at an all time high as well. They are basically putting them on drugs to keep them going.
